    IMO,  if your installing a Cheely trigger in an STI polymer frame, you would always modify the top/bottom of trigger.  No need to modify the grip.....

    If installing a Geppert or similar trigger that uses a "wider" shoe, then yes you'll have to modify the width of the shoe channel in the grip.

    I've never installed an SV trigger........but it being a premium piece, I think it would have an overtravel adjustment screw that can prevent half-cock if adjusted in too far.  Have you tried backing the screw out with the new bow?

    This might also help to visualize how the trigger shoe is fit.  This was the ONLY area I had to modify/file as the bow dimensions were perfect for my Stac P.

    99% of the aftermarket triggers I have installed have always needed a bit off the top and/or bottom.  Most users, when replacing a trigger, want the opportunity to remove any excess clearance to the vertical fit......

     

    Plenty of online information concerning the process.....and it's not that hard to do.  IMO, you want to be thoroughly familiar with setting the over-travel via the setscrew to really take advantage of all that this type of trigger has to offer!  Again, not that hard to do.....just takes some research.

    I haven't tried the ECG trigger..........but if your looking for a flat trigger for an STI, I installed one of these in my Staccato P and I love it!  Right width with minor fitting to top and/or bottom which is common with most aftermarket triggers.  Bow fits the grip frame without any issues.  Pre-travel and over-travel adjustment capable.

    NEW DAWSON TOOL LESS GUIDE ROD

    Just received and installed the new Dawson Precision Tool-Less Guide Rod in my Staccato P:

    Of course, it will need a full function test at the range asap. But my initial opinion is this guide rod is a welcomed modification and awesome product! Polished smooth as glass, and includes a proprietary 13# spring. The ease of take down vs the stock STI retention tool makes disassembly of the top end so much easier!

    Couple of days after my purchase, I decided to call Dawson for some detailed info concerning the spring weight, etc, as I was concerned why it used a proprietary spring vs a regular Commander spring. Got handed off to Dave himself and he asked me to share this info:

    With regards to the new Tool-Less guide rod for the Staccato P, and other models,

    it starts out as a Commander length 13# spring but has to be shortened since the Stac P and others utilize a 4.15" barrel length vs a Commander's 4.25" length. This spring will work with all SAAMI spec commercial ammo. Recommended replacement is 3,000 rounds in a competition gun; and 5,000 rounds for a range gun.

    Wolff is manufacturing these springs exclusively for Dawson, and they will be offering a 3-pack of the standard springs along with a 3-pack of different weights for those that want to tailor their springs to specific ammo/power factors. These will retail for under $10.00, and he hopes to have them up on the website today or tomorrow.

    He has a new video featuring the new guide rod's features and operation. Should be on YouTube very soon.

    DIY 1911 Trigger Job

    I measured the factory sears in the 2011 and 1911.  Both were .405".  Called EGW, and all their Hard Sears which are included in their Ignition Kits are manufactured .405".

     

    John Harrison's TR Sears are also .405".

     

    These sear dimensions allowed me to replace both ignition kits without altering the thumb safeties.

    It appears that Brandon Bunker has become very well versed with his CNC Mill!

    I want one. NOW!! Which gunsmith do we harass for these? You? Bunker?

    Bunker if you want the part to self install, me if you wish to have it installed for you, naturally machining is required

     

    The way I'm reading this is BB will be manufacturing the dovetail specific plates for gunsmith/machinist install of customer's choosing.  Or send the slide to KGB, for machining/installation if desired.

     

    And if it's not patented and/or proprietary design, I feel confident others will jump on this very desirable option!

    Neither KGB or Bunker has any info on their websites yet......

     

    I'm old school and have always preferred the Bomar style sights; and if this pans out, we'll have the option of replacing fixed sights without major repairs of existing dovetails/slides to convert to that style.
