  1. This might also help to visualize how the trigger shoe is fit.  This was the ONLY area I had to modify/file as the bow dimensions were perfect for my Stac P.

They have a short flat and extra short flat.......one of those should work............

99% of the aftermarket triggers I have installed have always needed a bit off the top and/or bottom.  Most users, when replacing a trigger, want the opportunity to remove any excess clearance to the vertical fit......

Plenty of online information concerning the process.....and it's not that hard to do.  IMO, you want to be thoroughly familiar with setting the over-travel via the setscrew to really take advantage of all that this type of trigger has to offer!  Again, not that hard to do.....just takes some research.

I haven't tried the ECG trigger..........but if your looking for a flat trigger for an STI, I installed one of these in my Staccato P and I love it!  Right width with minor fitting to top and/or bottom which is common with most aftermarket triggers.  Bow fits the grip frame without any issues.  Pre-travel and over-travel adjustment capable.

I’m looking for a gunsmith with a lot of 2011 experience for a comped short barreled carry gun.

Freedom/CK has already declined the work and I will not use Lonestar Innovations.

Any recommendations would be appreciated. Wait times a year or less would be preferred.

    Thank you in advance.

I don't know why no one offers a 1911 sized polymer grip for the 2011 frames.  I searched but haven't seen one.   Seems like a viable product.  Make a 2011 style polymer grip so it accepts single stack mags and voila!  I'm thinking it would be a lower cost way to build a 1911.

    Thoughts?

Isn't that what the STI Staccato C is doing?

  6. Just received and installed the new Dawson Precision Tool-Less Guide Rod in my Staccato P:

    https://dawsonprecision.com/guiderod...son-precision/

Of course, it will need a full function test at the range asap. But my initial opinion is this guide rod is a welcomed modification and awesome product! Polished smooth as glass, and includes a proprietary 13# spring. The ease of take down vs the stock STI retention tool makes disassembly of the top end so much easier!

Couple of days after my purchase, I decided to call Dawson for some detailed info concerning the spring weight, etc, as I was concerned why it used a proprietary spring vs a regular Commander spring. Got handed off to Dave himself and he asked me to share this info:

With regards to the new Tool-Less guide rod for the Staccato P, and other models,

    Quote:
Designed to fit STI Tactical 4.0, Ranger II, Ranger III, Tactical SS 4.0, Spartan IV, and Staccato P.

it starts out as a Commander length 13# spring but has to be shortened since the Stac P and others utilize a 4.15" barrel length vs a Commander's 4.25" length. This spring will work with all SAAMI spec commercial ammo. Recommended replacement is 3,000 rounds in a competition gun; and 5,000 rounds for a range gun.

Wolff is manufacturing these springs exclusively for Dawson, and they will be offering a 3-pack of the standard springs along with a 3-pack of different weights for those that want to tailor their springs to specific ammo/power factors. These will retail for under $10.00, and he hopes to have them up on the website today or tomorrow.

He has a new video featuring the new guide rod's features and operation. Should be on YouTube very soon.

  7. I measured the factory sears in the 2011 and 1911.  Both were .405".  Called EGW, and all their Hard Sears which are included in their Ignition Kits are manufactured .405".

John Harrison's TR Sears are also .405".

These sear dimensions allowed me to replace both ignition kits without altering the thumb safeties.

I had a gunsmith who made a rear sight for my Valor,  did the sight for $150 installed, but he doesn't want to make anymore.

    And I can understand why...............

It appears that Brandon Bunker has become very well versed with his CNC Mill!

I want one. NOW!! Which gunsmith do we harass for these? You? Bunker?

    KGB's reply:

Bunker if you want the part to self install, me if you wish to have it installed for you, naturally machining is required

The way I'm reading this is BB will be manufacturing the dovetail specific plates for gunsmith/machinist install of customer's choosing.  Or send the slide to KGB, for machining/installation if desired.

And if it's not patented and/or proprietary design, I feel confident others will jump on this very desirable option!

At this point, the forum posts are all that I've seen............

Neither KGB or Bunker has any info on their websites yet......

I'm old school and have always preferred the Bomar style sights; and if this pans out, we'll have the option of replacing fixed sights without major repairs of existing dovetails/slides to convert to that style.

  10. Couple of Smiths on another Forum posted that they have been working with Kensight's owner to produce a "No Mar" Bomar style sight that includes a base that will fit existing dovetails; and along with some minor machine work will be bedded in the top of the slide.

As one who despises fixed sights on a range or competition gun, this is very exciting news IMO!!!!

I have a desire to learn so I would like to take a current 1911 and clean up the trigger and make is slightly lighter.

I am looking for advice on jigs, files, stones.

I am pretty mechanically inclined so I am not afraid to take this job on but I am defiantly looking for anyone's input that has done a trigger job or does this for a living.

Installed the EGW kits in a 2011 and a 1911 along with Colt sear springs.  Ended up with 3# in one and 2 3/4# in the other after sear spring adjustments.  And, I did not have to replace the thumb safety in either pistol!

    Very pleased with the results!

    Hi All,

I'm relatively new to loading with maybe a couple thousand .38 p+ rounds.  I recently switched components to load the large magnum primers in .44mag, but am encountering some primer seating issues.  Using Dillon 650 with Dillon dies, Federal Large Magnum primers, Starline brass (new brass now).

Once every 3-10 rounds, when I push the lever forward to seat the primer, I feel the primer "catch" and not want to go into the case.  After inadvertently setting off a primer when I pushed too hard in this case, now I go very slowly and if I feel the "catch" I simply remove the case to avoid that happening.  Normally when I remove the case the primer hasn't entered at all, but one time I saw that it was stuck at an angle going in.

This didn't happen before so any ideas what would cause this?

    Thanks,

    Steve

    Steve:

Take a look at the 3rd page of this document.  This is the alignment tool that Dillon will send you for free.  Their latest set of alignment tools includes a #62167 PRIMER ALIGNMENT TOOL 2 PC and a #13713 ALIGNMENT FIXTURE.

If you take a close look at the procedure on the 3rd page of the pdf, you can get a feel for what is being accomplished.  You may even be able to "eyeball" the primer punch to shellplate orientation  by adjusting the index cam until you receive the Dillon Alignment Tools package.  Definitely worth having on hand!
