Hogrider, that is a very clear picture. Maybe the best I've seen.

Do you have a pic of how your endoscope is mounted?

I've got a scope but haven't mounted it yet still looking at options. Thanks.

I swapped out the 8Mp Auto Focus camera for the 5Mp non-auto focus.  Great view along with instant, standard focus.  Still has the 2x and 3x zoom if needed.

I had someone on another forum recommend the Redding Expander Die.  This has really smoothed out the press.  I had to slightly adjust the MBF Powder funnel by raising it up a hair, and I rarely ever have the press "Stick".  I replaced the Dillon die in station 3 where I swage the casings on my Super 1050.

    https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1019976654

I've seen the Redding Expander Die recommended by several users.  On my RL1100, I just didn't want to give up my swaging backup rod that provides a solid stop inside the case.

I modified my MBF powder funnel and have no "sticking" of my wet tumbled brass.  All I do is wipe the funnel expander with a swipe of case lube, and it will last an entire loading session.

For me, I ran for a bit without my Bullet feeder because I needed to fix some control wiring on my  Mr. Bullet Feeder (MBF).  It is not awkward, just slower.

I will say purchase the MBF die for which ever press you but if you do not immediately purchase the MBF.  You can set the die up and feed bullets into the die versus sticking your fingers into the press while loading.  While this will not allow you to run as fast if you had the complete MFB, this will allow you to load much faster than just putting bullets on the casings by hand.  Just an idea.

I totally agree with getting the MBF die assembly if the whole system is not in the budget right now.  I updated to the Pro Dropper Assembly, and it's working like a charm!  And it holds 14 Zero 147 JHP bullets when shutting off the feeder.  Would definitely be more efficient that placing each bullet by hand...........been there, done that!

This pic is with the 8Mp camera that does offer a nice view!  I tried several different ways to mount, and came up with this.  It may seem a bit ghetto, but that 16.5' of cable is out of my way.  It sure creates a bit of a challenge to mount.........

One thing I dislike about the 8mp camera is the Auto Focus that's built in and can't be disabled.  If I'm loading at normal speed, I'm seeing a bit of blurring when glancing at the monitor to view the powder drop in the case.  Just got in the 5Mp version that does not have auto focus, and I'm going to mount it up and see how good the pic is along with the stability of the camera.

    HTHs!

Not sure how you installed the die, but this video is the one I used when installing the Redding die.  I have zero issues.  Maybe too large of a bell when seating the bullet is the issue.  Way better than Dillon Die in regards to changing OAL.

    youtube.com/watch?v=fWkoDoFBH7I&t=107s

I watched the video and, for an entirely new beginner, I guess it's a pretty good way to get started.

IMO, it just seems like a "long way around" to using the included instructions that come with the die.  And the gentleman doesn't mention anything about zeroing the final adjustments for your preferred/favorite COALs!

And note that the included instructions specify DISASSEMBLY AND CLEANING before actually using the die!

Thanks for the advice! I haven't used the MBF funnel so I can't comment on that, but I've found that it's a lot easier to place bullets with the Alpha Dropper compared to the Dillon. With the Dillon, I was belling to at least .390 and still having the coating being shaved and bullets tip over. With the Alpha Dropper, I'm belling at .383 (and could probably get away with less) and I can place the bullet almost straight. I pulled a seated and crimped SNS bullet for inspection, and there was no damage to the coating, and just a faint impression from seating/crimping.

If you'll notice the empty brass I have circled in red, you can clearly see the "step" for bullet seating that is created by the MBF funnel.

This step was created for .356" coated lead and DID NOT require any "belling" of the MBF funnel.  All the stock MBF funnels I've got have the upper step machined to .358".  This has provided plenty of clearance to seat a coated bullet without any or minor flare.

    Bayou135-2.png

Here's a good profile pic of the Alpha Dropper that I tried in the RL1100, and it shows a great view of the profile and type of expansion it creates.

    Alpha Stick.png

And finally a good profile view that includes the MBF funnel in the center, and the Alpha Dropper on the right.

I just pulled the spring out of die, as I've seen recommended as a solution to OAL variability. On a small sample, it seems to tighten up the OAL range substantially, but I'll need to do a larger run to confirm. In any case, removing the spring doesn't seem to affect gauging: the BB 147 RNs still fail, and the other bullets gauge perfectly.

I've had many years of excellent results from the Redding Pro Micrometer Seating Die!

Also, having went through the powder funnel dilemma and trying several different avenues including the Alpha Dropper, IMO there is no way that the Alpha Dropper will provide the STABILITY when seating a bullet as the MBF powder funnel will!  The profile of the Alpha is almost identical to the stock Dillon XL650/750 funnel.  The MBF will create an EXPANDED mouth in the brass versus a flared/bell type.

And yes, the stock Dillon and the Alpha funnels are being used by hundreds of reloaders loading different bullets/profiles successively.

I had pulled my hair out trying to overcome the setbacks of loading different manufacturers coated lead bullets until I discovered the results of the MBF funnel.  This thread gives some feedback on its use:

    https://forums.brianenos.com/topic/205711-fix-for-shaving-lead-bullets/

IMO, if your having gauging problems with only the BB 147RNs, then I would gauge a few right after they came out of the seater (no crimp) and compare to how they gauge after coming out of the Crimping Die.

    HTHs, and Good Luck!

Mine might be older than that. I thought it only had a 1 year warranty. I got the gem pro 500 cuz I wanted 2 decimals if accuracy.

What was actually wrong with yours?
Mine seems to be working fine.

Go to the link I posted above and fill out the short form.  They will contact you to confirm your warranty period.........IIRC, all the GemPros had .00 accuracy.  250, 300, and 500.

Just out of the blue it started to drift without actually weighing.  Documented weights would be 2-3gn +/-.  Put a calibration weight on the pan and get an error message every time...........

Just a matter of time till it fails...........if eligible, get the full refund while you can!

It's a scale. Other than the ability to 'talk' to another device i.e. AutoTrickler, etc. there isn't much else *for* it to do.

Some of this type of scale sometimes have counting functions - where you can weigh an individual item, and then a pile of them and it'll tell you how many are in said pile... but bullets/brass tend to be a bit too heavy and/or bulky for the scale's available range, and powder kernels too small/light, so...

  11. Just wanted to bring it to everyone's attention that owns a GemPro 250/300 scale.  My 250 failed, and I contacted this company for warranty:

About the only 'intense' feature worth worrying about is pairing it with an AutoTrickler and AutoThrower emoji106.png

Yea, I'm fully aware of how well it integrates with the AutoTrickler/AutoThrower combination.  And if I ever start loading for precision rifle, I've got the perfect "balance" to add to.

For some reason, I keep thinking there are some features of the unit that would benefit me for verifying .1g variances in ladder loads, etc..........

    Thanks!

  13. Saw a GemPro 250 for sale today in the classifieds.......made me think of my recent ordeal where I contacted HBI International -My Weigh about my failing GP250.  And since they no longer make the GemPro line and can't honor the warranty, all I had to do was send them a copy of my original invoice and they are sending me a check for the full purchase price.

Very satisfied with this outcome as every little bit will help to offset the cost of the FX-120i!

  14. After my GemPro started dying, I decided to invest in one of the best for reloading!

Have it calibrated and weighing fine; but would like to learn to use some of the more intense features. Not much on YouTube for this specific scale/balance. Any site or instructional blog recommendations?

    Thanks!

Love mine too (and it doesn't make that annoying ratcheting sound :) )! I bought a $36 endoscope on Amazon that connects to my iPad thanks to recommendations here.

Definitely enjoying the view with an Depstech 8Mp Endoscope from Amazon also!

And the zoom gives the option to look closer if there's any suspicion of the powder levels.............

Got a few hundred rounds loaded that are a tad too long for a new gun I just got. Probably need 0.005 less OAL. Rounds are lightly crimped, HAP 125gr. Pressure won’t be an issue with the shorter OAL. Can I put them back in the press and reseat them a bit shorter?

I've got, IMO, one of the finest seating dies available, and I sure don't expect my COALs to be within .005"!  My thoughts are that if your crimp is ONLY removing the initial bell/expansion, and you can check this by measuring the components of your round, then by all means seat them a bit shorter and recrimp!  Take one of your existing rounds that are .005" too long, and disassemble the round.  If there's a crimp groove around whatever bullet you're using, then reseating and recrimping may destroy the accuracy of the round.

My searching found nothing on this since 2011, but prior to that it seems folks were shooting 4 or 5 rounds to ball park their loads, then a couple of 10 shot strings to verify once they dialed in a load.

With my Shooting Chrony, I always shot 1 or 2 ten shot strings when I wanted to chrono a load.  I would shoot a couple of strings through 4 different guns (Glock 34 & 17, STI, and Ruger PCC).

I just recently upgraded to a ProChrono DLX and now that I have the ability to log to my iPhone I'm planning to change it to one string of 15-30 rounds for each gun.  This also coincides with my making the switch from copper plated bullets to coated bullets due to availability and cost.  So, when working up a new load, or just verifying your tried and true load in a new gun, how many rounds to you run over the chrono to be satisfied of the result?

    Thanks,

    -Cuz

    Cuz:

I do the 10 round strings using 11 rounds; first round into the berm to settle the pistol in.  Using the Pro Chrono with the Bluetooth adapter coupled to my iPhone.

This is just my routine, and I enjoy doing it this way.  Attached is a sample of 6 runs that really helped me get a feel of using the App and having it call out my numbers.  Probably didn't need this many runs, but I was having fun doing this!

Anyone ever try to use the Dillon powder check on an Evo unit?  I ask because I have several Dillon units that I use on various set ups for my 650..?

    Sig:

Congratulations on moving over to the Mark 7!  ;)

IMO, most of the powder check units will screw into a standard die hole just like the Dillon units do.  So, I would at least try the Dillon once you get the press.

From what I've heard and read, a lot of users complain of powder sticking to the sensing rod/weight; regardless of the brand.  And this will create a mess depending on how fast one runs the press.

Again, depending on the powder and charge weight, you may be able to use the Dillon units without any spillage!  Definitely worth a try!

    Good luck!
