It would almost be easier to tell you what NOT to buy versus what to buy as the number of good options outnumber the bad.

    Mec-Gar mags and Armanov basses.

Have seen Mec-Gar mentioned many times, so I'm thinking just order 5 or 6 of these and keep the stock mags for backup.  And with Production, I'm thinking there can only be 10 rounds in a mag.........??

    Thanks Tunachaser!

  2. Thanks EVERYONE for the excellent feedback!

I feel confident that with my current inventory of "consumables", I can work up a nice shooting load.  Yes, I remember well the mention of CZs usually requiring shorter OALs to function correctly.  And I have "Wobbly's" Guide to Determining Max OAL bookmarked.

Of course, I always download a current copy of Darrell's excellent spreadsheet.

Again, thanks for all your comments!

  3. Just starting my path into the USPSA Production Class.  My plan is to purchase a holster/belt/mag holder combo along with some extra magazines.  And I definitely don't want to use/abuse the stock gold mag base pads.

So, at this point, I looking for mag and base pad recommendations along with a beginner's holster combo that won't be unnecessarily expensive.

    Thanks for any recommendations!

  4. Started getting involved in a local USPSA sanctioned range, and I've developed a very strong interest in trying out Production Class!

Having been strictly dedicated to 9mm 1911/2011 platform, I've ordered a CZ Shadow 2 Orange as this platform has been dominating the 2020 USPSA National Production Equipment Survey!  I also had the opportunity to handle a couple of competitor's CZs.  A Shadow 2 OR and a S/A TacSport2.  And I have to say both of these pistols felt GREAT in my hands!  I was so impressed, I ordered the S2 Orange a couple of days later!

So now, I'll be starting that journey of developing a new load that shoots ACCURATELY from this new-to-me platform.  Referring to the same 2020 Equipment Survey, I see that 147g is the preferred bullet along with Titegroup and N320 coming in as #1 and #2 in powders used.  And Blue Bullets is the #1 Bullet Manufacturer.

I have long been a dedicated user of N320; however I do have several pounds of Titegroup.  Plus I have a huge stockpile of Zero 147g JHP and sufficient stock of coated 147g Acme FP-NLG lead.

As this is a completely new platform I'll be developing loads for, I would gladly welcome input from the experienced members here on what components I should seek, from my current stock, to allow me a direct path to developing an highly accurate load suitable for USPSA Production Class.

And, IIRC, the CZ platform usually requires a much shorter OAL as compared to the 2011 STI platform?

Thanks for listening to my long-winded request!

    Best Regards,

    Ben

    What's the prepping procedure?

For me, the standard sized MBF/PE expander works best with coated lead that's in the .3565-.357 diameter as stock size is close to .358-.3585".

For my Zero JHP, I had the funnel turned to .3575" and that eliminated the sticking/popping issues.  Those issues are totally due to "surface friction" of the funnel.  Reduce it, and it inherently reduces/eliminates the funnel sticking in the brass.

I also allow a bit of the One Shot lube to get into the mouth of the cases during coating........

I tried the the SSI funnel, "popped" worse and had to run like 5 or 6 and pput it back in the package. I like the look of it, sounds like I need to get the polisher on the dremel on both, thanks

Same experience...............IMO, if you compare the profile of the (9mm) SSI funnel to the MBF, the SSI profile is very similar to the stock XL650 funnel...........

Once the MBF is "prepped" it provides a very stable seat for the bullet.

My results with the Alpha funnel........(and yes, I use wet tumbled brass).............

I have been using EGW undersized sizing dies for both 45ACP and 40S&W with great success. I have been looking for one in 9mm with no success. Is there a difference between the EGW and the Lee die? I know back in the day the EGW would grind the bottom of the Lee die. I don’t know if this is still the case.

Are their any alternatives? How about the Mighty Armory TNT sizing die. A great deal more expensive but it seems to be available. Never used any of their dies. What are others’ experiences?

    Thanks.

I got this straight from EGW....................

HO GRIDER, what are the components you are using for your camera setup? Looks very clean.

    Thanks.

After trying SEVERAL endoscopes, I ended up with this quality unit that features a great view and almost zero lag showing current views as the shellplate rotates:

I use an old 10" Android tablet; however IMO, it also shows a great view using a cell phone...............

HOGRIDER: Don't doubt you. I just don't see any on MY converted version. No complaint, except I wish it was it old .xls format so the odds of conversion errors would be smaller. Not Poster's issue, mine.

    noylj:

I'm still a bit confused on what's going on with YOUR converted version.......................if you want it in .xls format, just make a copy and change the saved file from .xlsx format to .xls!

If all else fails, take Darrell up on his gracious offer to send you whatever format you may need!

I for one truly appreciate Darrell's time and troubles for providing us such an extensive compilation of PROVEN load data!
