  1. BTW, you can buy loctite at any auto parts store.
  2. Gregg makes a good point--a crack in the female threaded portion of the extractor is a fairly common problem, and it creates the exact symptom you describe. It is usually caused by overtightening the extractor rod (one of the several reasons I tell people not to dink with them)--however, I have seen at least one brand new revolver that had this crack straight from the factory. You can check it by removing the extractor and the rod, and assembling them without the cylinder--look carefully at the barrel of the extractor as you tighten it up. The crack will be just a hairline going up from the end of the extractor barrel that will appear as you torque the rod tight. If this is happening, the real solution is to have a new extractor fitted. However, in the real world, a drop of loctite will probably work fine. One drop of blue loctite (not frickin' nail polish, or any other home remedies) on the threads, tighten just enough to be fully in place without causing the crack to open up, and let it dry.
  3. Yeah, I normally don't like to apply loctite to extractor rod threads, but in this instance I think it is the obvious solution. One drop of blue loctite should do the trick. Then leave it alone!
  4. For $400 it better suck more than dirt off the floor!
  5. I've been very pleased with my Springfield Loaded Target Stainless 9mm. There are several of these in the hands of competition shooters in my area and they all seem to work well.
  6. By the way, anachronism, are you signed up for Area 3 in Grand Island next month? If not, it's not too late. If nothing else, if you want to see some fast and fancy revolver shooting, come over and watch Ricardo Lopez--he's the reigning IPSC World Revolver champion!
  7. Most serious competitive revolver shooters are running barrels in the range of 5" to 6.5", except for the IDPA guys who are limited to 4" guns.
  8. Another situation in which the time and space parameters become important is side matches. I have seen Jerry Miculek decline to shoot a side match because he knew he already had won the main match and wanted to eliminate any possibility that something could go wrong during the side match and he could get DQ'd for the whole thing. 6.5.3 resolves the start and finish issue. Not quite as sure on the issue of where the "match facility" physically begins and ends. Ordinarily it should apply to the whole range property, but that doesn't accommodate those situations where a bay is available for practice or sighting in, or when there is a side match or some other kind of shooting event available on-site during the match.
  9. Read your policy closely. State Farm's standard homeowners policy covers stolen firearms up to $2,500 while they are anywhere in the world--subject to the deductible. Other types of losses to firearms (fire, flooding, etc.) are not subject to the $2,500 special limit, and are covered up to the full limit for personal property listed on the declarations page. With the NRA's free coverage in effect, between the two policies that might be enough to give you reasonable peace of mind, even if it wouldn't entirely indemnify some particular situations.
  10. Frankly, I don't think grease is appropriate for handgun applications in general, particularly in northern climates. And I am definitely not in favor of using any kind of grease in revolver actions. Synthethic motor oil (Mobil 1, etc.) is the best lubrication I have found for handguns. A little synthetic oil between the cylinder and the yoke barrel, a drop on both the inside and outside of the rebound slide, and a couple drops on the pivot points should be all you need to properly lubricate the gun for a long period of time.
  11. Thanks for posting those, Bruce. Congrats to Rich and John on their convincing victories.
  12. One of the big problems with shooting a wheelgun in Production is that any external modification to the gun, other than those that fit within the listed exceptions, are technically illegal. Bobbed hammers, Randy hammers, or Carmonized hammers? Not legal for Production. Extended thumb latch? Nope--that's not legal either. Now the reality is that probably nobody but us will ever notice, or ever care. And that's partially because at anything other than the lower levels of competition, you're not going to be competitive in Production division with a wheelgun anyway! Yeah OK fine, you can probably beat some of the local schmokels with your 627. Big deal--it's a stunt. I have always felt it's important to support and participate in REVOLVER DIVISION. It was not many years ago there were rumblings of getting rid of Revo Division in USPSA. Largely through our efforts here on BE, those rumblings have pretty much gone quiet. But we need to keep the participation numbers healthy and growing in Revo. You're not really helping the cause if you're dicking off over in Production or L-10 just for kicks. Or so it seems to me.
  13. Now that's more like it. Back to the thread......speedloader and moonclip carriers are now exempt from the ordinary behind-the-hip-bone rule, for shooters using a revolver in Production Division. That changed with the last edition of the rule book.
  14. In the original post, westczek posed a hypothetical situation in which a competitor in Revolver Division, who is using a 7- or 8-shot gun, accidentally fires more than 6 rounds between reloads. He wondered whether the shooter would then revert to Production Division as long as the gun met Production Division equipment rules. I responded that in that scenario, the shooter who accidentally fires a 7th shot would be bumped straight to Open. Rule 6.2.5.1 would control in that situation. Certainly if the gun meets Production rules, and you declare Production in advance, you're fine to fire as many rounds as the gun holds (up to 10, which is the division limit). OK? Everybody clear?
  15. I believe those are IPSC Revo Division rules, as opposed to USPSA Revo Division rules.
  16. 6.2.5.1 However, if a competitor fails to satisfy the equipment or other requirements of a declared Division during a course of fire, the competitor will be placed in Open Division, if available, otherwise the competitor will shoot the match for no score. Any other questions?
  17. I always knew you were a wheelgunner at heart!
  18. I know for a fact that my open revo will shoot .356" one-shot groups all day long.
  19. Sometimes the jury hears a lot less. Although it's damn difficult to truly sequester a jury in a case like this.
  20. So what's the common thread? Guilty people getting off the hook? Or a viewing public that jumps to judgment, promoted by a media that never passes up the chance to sensationalize the legal process? Or perhaps both?
  21. This pic was taken of me (with my old Afro haircut) shooting my very first pistol match back in 1987. The host club ran out of bowling pins so we shot chunks of 4X4 off the tables instead. See the Wilson 7-round .45 mag on the bench there? Well, I still have that mag, along with 4 or 5 more just like it, and they all still function just fine. I upgraded them to the 8-round followers and springs when they first came out, and I think I replaced the springs on them one other time. I did have a problem with breaking some of the plastic basepads (like everybody else), and a few years ago I finally just put steel basepads on all my Wilson mags, which solved that issue. The point of all this is that good quality single-stack magazines should last indefinitely. I would not recommend screwing with the feed lips on them. None of my good single-stack mags have ever been "adjusted" with pliers--if the mag bodies ever cause malfunctioning problems I will simply toss them in the trash and replace them.
  22. Here you go.....looks pretty cool!
  23. "Sherwyn Standards"......Gentlemen, I believe a new term has been coined...... Ultimate_Stage1.pdf
  24. Let's run a quick test and see if a photo can be attached......
  25. Handling a really good custom trigger on an XD/XDM will probably take you right on up to OMFG.
