  1. I tried them in my CMMG MK9T. Worked great W/ 3.0gr Win231. Moved downrange at 880 fps with very little variation. Good accuracy at 25 yards. Good suppressor load.
  2. ...add a fine thread set screw on one end to adjust and to hold it in position while you tighten it against the block.
  3. Thanks for the tips guys. I have a bunch of STI mags and they all have various degrees of rust (all new within the last 2 years). My buddies have SV mags and they don't have these problems. All said and done, tubes, base pads and followers they (SV) don't cost much more than a tweaked STI mag.
  4. note to self: check date of last post before posting. But since folks are now reading this again, I'll say that adding the radius on the EGW stop made a significant difference in my open 9mm gun. The more radius I added the lower the impulse and my gun shoots flatter. So, the square or the ~45 deg STI firing pin stop, which is what I mimicked at first, may be good for non-comp guns, but at least for me or my 4.5" shorty with an EGW comp the long radius is better. BTW, I have a STI stop on my limited gun.
  5. I just replaced my firing pin stop on my open gun with a EGW oversized one to reduce clocking on my extractor. Long story short, I did add a small radius, but the impulse was much higher than the one I had in it with a very long radius. Now the challenge is to mimic the radius of the old firing pin stop.
  6. Hunga88, you probably stumbled across my blog ( http://triggermeister.com/mr-bulletfeeder-on-a-hornady-lnl/ ). You summed it all correctly, but let me clarify the issue with the spring on the bullet dropper. I now have a Dillon 1050 as well, and multiple calibers and I still use the spring on the bullet dropper. The spring just ensures that the bullet dropper contracts and does not double drop bullets. Technically gravity should do the trick, but with any type of lateral tension on the dropper body it can cause the dropper to stick open a little too long. Per Rick (Mr. Bulletfeeder) others have used a big fat rubber band to relieve tension from the dropper by rubber banding the spring that guides the bullets to the dropper to the powder measure. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.
  7. Of course I had to stumble across 2#'s of HS7 couple of days ago while hunting for powder. Worked it up to 1440 FPS on a MG 124 bullet, OAL of 1.175" with 9.4 gr of HS-7. That powder is awesome. Shorty, EGW cone comp with 4.5" KKM barrel, handled great. Blows my mind that they discontinued it. I guess it's better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all...
  8. Now let's get back to the 2011 build! Current cost sits at $900 bucks without blueing. I was unable to post the parts table, so here is link to the shopping list for my 2011 build: http://triggermeister.com/a-cheap-2011-build/ . and some pics of the slide:
  9. Here are some pics from my Sarco, Colt Slide and Caspian build. I know it is not the 2011 build this post started with, but hopefully that will come soon.
  10. Nice work! I've found the "budget" builds depend on timing of parts buys/sales/trades, connections in the business-land of guns, and being able to have the space to leave a project sit on one of my benches waiting for that above noted timing to come together. Personally, I need to leave it out rather than put it away until the next phase, or it gets into the "out of sight" phase. Excellent work and thanks for the vid. Thanks, enroute! I fully agree, that timing is everything. Like I mentioned before, these Sarco kits are hard to come by as they get snapped up quickly. Waiting for my 2011 frame got the best of me, so I picked up a standard Classic Caspian frame from my local gun shop to play with (until I get my 2011 builds going). Here are a couple of pics of the progress so far: Everything is still in the "white". I bobbed the hammer, and polished all the paint (or whatever that is) off the Sarco parts. The mill spec grip safety had to go, so I slapped a Foster Ind one on that I had around ($16 bucks if I remember correctly). So far most of the work is just cosmetic. The overall formula has been: CHEAP PARTS = LOTS of METAL WORK! but frankly that happens even with high end parts, but not to that degree. Enough of the 1911, hopefully I'll be posting about my 2011 build next! I have just about everything for that except the frame, barrel, slide stop and firing pin retaining plate.
  11. LOL....my hands are prettier than that! But for the sake of ever learning can you expand on your mechanics comment?
  12. That may be the case. What kind of comp are you running, Robot?
  13. Here is a short video of the comp test from Redstag:
  14. That was 7 yards. Forgot my pistol rest, otherwise I would have probably put all of them on top of each other. I was skeptical at first about this "affordable" barrel, but I was very pleasantly surprised. Others claim to have had similar experiences. I do have to say that the fit with the Colt A1 slide was very good, but I did have to clean up the bottom lugs to get to full lockup. I have to say all the parts were decent and worked fine, but could be cleaned up by the end user (seams removed, stamped edges removed, etc.) if one desires more visually aesthetic parts.
  15. Well, after re-running the numbers..... looks like the total sits at $920.97, but it includes a $80 grip from a fellow shooter that still had the trigger and mag release in it. Changing the build from a .45 Auto to a 9mm, dramatically impacts the usable parts from the Sarco kit and when I re-ran the numbers the cost for getting all parts directly from Brownells only adds another $40 bucks to the build bringing the cost to $958.29. Anyway, I have time for this build, since the focus is first on the open gun... Cheers!
  16. So, yesterday I shot my Sarco/Gold Cup/ A1 slide combo. I have to say, I was impressed by this $135 kit. Not so impressed by the finish of the parts although they all looked decent. Since my 2011 build will be a 9mm, I will have several parts, including the barrel, that will not be used. However, I wanted to test as many parts as possible. I was pleasantly surprised by the accuracy of the barrel and slide combo that I used. The barrel needed minor fitting and had good lockup. I didn't have the extractor tuned properly and did have a couple jams. YES, I prefer my titanium internals and a low mass hammer, but I think all the sarco kits are usable and can be tuned, it's just a function of time and know-how. Some things that need to be done is the hammer needs to be bobbed to reduce weight, edges need to be smoothed on several part and it needs a good trigger job. So here is my video review: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I4Lvkfh0KkQ&feature=youtube_gdata .
  17. Today, I put all the sarco parts that i will use for this build on my Colt Gold Cup frame (plus some that I won't use). Some needed fitting and others dropped right in. Tomorrow I'll throw some sights on the A1 slide I used and go test fire the gun. The only reason i want sights is to check the accuracy of the sarco barrel (won't be on the final build), otherwise all I would need to test is function and splits. More to come...
  18. I don't have a Hi-point, but I had the privilege of showing a guy how to shoot one. He showed up with his brand new piece and several boxes of ammo. The thing actually had adjustable sights and he would shoot (offhand, cup and saucer) then adjust the sight, chasing the bullet impact. I asked if I could help and let's just say it grouped very well and shot dead nutz before I handed it back. Ah, memories... no I didn't run out and buy one. As far as this build, I'm still waiting on my frames. According to my FFL, FGW made some test runs and is now running production. He is not sure where he is on the list but he orderd 5 of them several months ago. I have my unique slide open shorty gun parts and the sarco kit for the "dirt cheap" build. I also picked up two STI grips from a couple fellow USPSA shooters that upgraded their grips for $75 a piece and the both had the stock trigger and mag release. The sarco kit looks ok. In lieu of being able to build my 2011's, I may just take that sarco kit and put it in another 1911 for testing purposes...I'll post results later. The build will happen...eventually. :-)
  19. thank you xSTONEx! The HS-6 works great! Very flat without the blow to the face of longshot. I think this is a winner.
  20. I just updated the original post. Hopefully this will yield a good post for not only me but other's in the future. There is lots of load data out there, but nothing comprehensive that I've found. Thanks!
  21. Montana Gold HP and Longshot and Autocomp right now, as well as some powders that are probably not so suited for 9mm major....
  22. Need some suggestions for a 9mm major load for a STI based shorty with KKM barrel and Akai comp. (Added 10/21). Full description of the gun the load is needed for: Shorty, shoto comp, 2 x .125 popple holes per akai's suggestion, kkm 1/32, 17 main spring, 9lb recoil. Long shot felt great but to short of a gun to consistently make major with before it plateaus. Autocomp felt snappy and didn't seem like it worked the comp. If you have a load suggestion, can you please specify: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Barrel length: Comp: Popple Holes: (yes/no, how many, what size) Bullet Mfg: Bullet Weight: Powder: Powder Weight: Primer Mfg: Primer Type: (Pistol/Rifle) OAL: Crimp: Chrono'd FPS: Overall observations: (Felt good, snappy, cycling speed, etc.)
  23. Thanks, Ranger. I agree and I may end up with some used parts. One thing I probably will not compromise on is the barrel fit, so GS fit is the only way to go and that rules out most used barrels. As for caliber, I'm not sure. Originally I thought 45, but 9mm would be good too (e.g. 3-gun, IDPA ESP, Steel Challenge, etc. ).
  24. Thanks 38superfan. I just saw a price list to from remsport and it looks promising for both slide and barrel. Also checking on the Remsport barrel to see if it is ramped.
