  1. Update: I took off the seater assembly and compressed it with pliers and shot it full of brake cleaner. I the worked the assembly up and down. It took about 5 minutes of this process, but the ram now fully goes back into the assembly where it belongs. I plan to do this as a maintenance item from now on. Thanks for the replies.

I just got two .40 hi caps with the #6 followers as well. The mags seem to rocket out of the gun when I press the mag release. I don't know if it's just the brand new springs or the new follower making that happen. Time will tell.
  3. Nik - yes, I'm spilling my share of powder. I'm loading major 9, so the powder is close to the top of the brass. I'll try clipping the spring under the shell plate. I'll also try some brake cleaner on the old assembly. Thanks for the replies guys! Cy
  4. How do you clean it? I blow it off with compressed air. What else do you do?
  5. In the 650, the primer seater assembly screws into the bottom of the shellplate. On the up stroke, the spring-loaded ram pushes the new primer into the primer pocket of the brass. On the down strike, the ram retracts into the assembly in order to make room for the rotary primer disc to spin and put a fresh primer above the primer seater assembly for insertion into the next brass. I’m having repeated problems (2 times) with the primer seater assembly getting powder/dirt/junk in it. This results in the ram not fully retracting into the assembly and therefor not making room for the rotary primer disc to spin – which causes a total jam of the machine. The only fix is to get a new primer seater assembly – which Dillon gladly sends me for free (Dillon customer service is second to none!). However, this has happened to me twice – each after about 2,000 round through the machine. I have a match this weekend and no 650 for loading until I get a new primer seater assembly from Dillon. The only cause I can see is that I load with SP2 – which is very fine and dense. It must get into the primer seater assembly and mess it up. I use compressed air to try to keep everything clean, but to no avail. I also tried taking the primer seater assembly apart and cleaning it, but you can’t get the ram out of the assembly for cleaning. Has anyone else had this problem? Any advice? Thanks.
  6. Has anyone use the Lightening Strike titanium safety plunger? Is it worthwhile or not? Thanks.
  7. Benny lightened the slide on my Edge. It made the gun feel flatter and lighter, with no premature unlocking. The trick is to get a knowledgable gunsmith to do the work and not just have a local garage smith start milling off metal from your slide.
  8. You can hear when it's broken when you dry fire. I can't explain it, but you'll know it.
  9. Sounds good. Don't know if it will make minor. Buy or borrow a chrono and go test it out. BE sells a Pact timer/chrono combo that is an excellent deal if you're in the market. Good luck.
  10. Well Glock makes a pretty good gun, and they told me to use snap caps if I dry fire a lot. Cy, By that logic, you shoot factory ammo only, right? 'cause I'm pretty sure Glock is still encouraging every one to shoot factory ammo only...... Very little factory ammo However, after breaking two breach faces, I now use snap caps. It's not a big hassle. YMMV.
  11. TT, Nice letter and sorry to hear about your stores. I, like you, run a small business. I understand how difficult that experience must be for a businessman. Take comfort in a few facts: · Most, if not all, wealthy business people had one or many businesses go under. · You had the guts to start and run your own business – most people never have or will have that combination of guts and work ethic. · You must shoot to score. A sure way of never scoring is not to shoot. You took a shot – it wasn’t a waste of effort or time. · Shoot again! Good luck. Cy

  13. True, true . . . Thanks for the replies.
  14. Thanks Patrick. The stock without the buttpad is about the right length. I wonder if I can just get a flat buttplate (no pad) and put it over the end of the buttstock. It would still be the correct length, but no pad. It is a Winchester 1300.
  15. Don't know if this thread belongs in the Gunsmithing section or here, but here it goes. I'd like to shorten my pump shotgun buttstock (wooden) about 1". Any tips on the best way to do this and then how to fit the buttpad to the shortened stock? Actually, the buttstock without the buttpad is about the right length for me, but I don't have anyting to cover the bare end of the woodend stock. Thanks for any ideas.
  16. I've personally had two do this (a 35 and a 27). Just bad luck - maybe. Glock replaced both slides for free. They told me to use snap caps. I now use snap caps.
  17. Thanks for the replies. It looks likes it the YHM mount, but according to the other post, they don't seem to hold zero.
  18. I'd like to mount my scope further forward than the AR flattop allows. What are good and economical mounts to use? In the Nov/Dec Front Sight, there's a pic of Taran B shooting his AR with his scope siting on an extended mount (page 36). Who makes that mount?
  19. The same question is equally applicable to a factory stock S_I. Does anyone NOT mess with their pistols?
  20. True, but Dave is a man of steel.
  21. You can always dryfire - even if 15 minutes a few times a week. Get SA's book and use it. It really helped me - mostly because it gave me a structured dry fire practice routine. Chris Patty sells reduced targets that are great for dry fire in confined spaces. Shooting a different gun/division also keeps you fresh. I started shooting Open just for that reason. Why not keep the Open gun and shoot Production? Pick up a G17 on the cheap, together with some of the less expensive Bladetech stuff and you're set. Production MAKES you call shots and pay attention to funamentals because you're shooting minor. You can buy Win White Box or even Wolf (yes, Wolf) 9mm almost as cheap as reloading it. I probably have some 10 round 9mm Glock mags lying around. If you get a Glock 9mm, drop me a line and I'll send you some (you need lots of mags for Production). Cy
