  1. I kinda have a problem with my versamax. If I lock the bolt back, and -lightly- press the bolt release/shell catch, the feed latch release wont lock in with the shell latch. If I desire, I can lock the bolt back, press the bolt release, and lock the bolt back back and forth without ever touching the trigger or feed latch release. Has anyone ever experienced this? Ive never bent my shell latch so I dont see why this would start happening. Its possible that it has always done this and I just never noticed.
  2. Are the pt shielded safties ambi? Id really rather have a single sided
  3. I havnt seen them available anywhere. I did see some pics somewhere.
  4. My new pistol is chewing me up. I want to add a thumb shield, but I can order either a version for STI or SV. Has anyone installed one of these on a PT frame? Which version did you use?
  5. Ill be interested in any experienced POI/POA shifts!
  6. Hmmm interesting. Ive been wanting to drop some weight from my 3 gun rifle, and going to a fluted stretch 16 would be around 10oz of reduction. Ive been hesitant to go to any 16's due to losing the softness of the 18" rifle gas, but this might be the ticket. Any thoughts on the fluted versions?
  7. Thanks to someone (Mccallister) giving me a mag spring for my shotgun after a jam, I was able to work myself back in. Easily the tightest match Ive ever shot, every extra shot meant something. Either way it was a good time and a nice break from the weather up here. Good shooting with everyone on squad 1, very competitive while staying friendly.
  8. The easiest time to see a drawback with a fixed power (for me personally) was on stages with a lot of tight shots on paper at close ranges (5-30yards). The transition times on eyeboxes and headshots with close no shoots felt clunky.
  9. Ive used a TA33 before. While obviously slower than my 1-6 variable, it wasnt too bad.
  10. Haha thanks for the info. Much more than I expected to hear back. The biggest concern I see from most searches is from dual or irregular flame front, similar to knock in an engine or pre ignition, causing pressure spikes. This doesnt seem to always apply though such as in my previous example. The case capacity is close enough to the same that there shouldnt be risk of "knock". The idea of max pressure/charge - 10% seems logical looking at data.
  11. What dictates the minimum charge for a rifle cartridge? Lets talk about .223 specifically. 40g ballistic tip vs 55g FMJ with H335. The minimum for a 40g in Hornady's manual is 24.3g, and 20.8g for a 55g. Most of what Ive read seems to state that minimums are based on case capacity, however the capacity for a 40g vs 55g doesn't seem too much different. especially if you load the 40g shorter than the 55. So why is the minimum so much lower with the 55g?
  12. Cant you cock the gun and close the bolt? I would just pick it up, load the tube, and rack the bolt.
  13. Never heard of them. They look functional. While you are at it check out: Ap Customs Invictus practical Carbon Arms Taccom I bet those will pop up in a search.
  14. Ive been interested in a setup like this for a while. Since it sounds like you have to run a larger gas port/opening (as compared to 18" rifle gas), how does this affect the recoil impulse in relation to the 18" bbls?
  15. FN makes great barrels, but in my limited experience BCM has better QC when it comes to the assembly of an upper.
  16. If you are shooting heavies for the long range targets, logic dictates that you zero for those, since they require the most precision. Check your 55's too, since the POI can be off enough to miss a skinny sammy a couple times. really, at 300 yards you could probably use 55's and one zero. Depending on the difficulty of the targets, of course.
  17. The rope thing is the biggest change for me as a Tac Ops shooter. Im so used to touching ropes as references in every other shooting sport, im sure to eat some penalties on that one.
  18. How important are certain rifle reloading steps? How much do they affect the end result? Assuming the powder drop is perfect and the projectile is quality, how would you rate these aspects based on result/importance? (I may have missed a few). Case capacity. Primer pocket uniformity. Match vs standard primers. Neck Concentricity. Brass OAL variances. Cartridge OAL variances. Projectile weight variances.
  19. Buying local is cool, but I would purchase from a company that supports the sports first.
  20. You cant walk 15 feet anymore without tripping over an AR15 manufacturer.
  21. Thanks guys just what I was looking for. Seems pretty standard. Ive got one coming soon and I dont want to stock up on a bunch of projectiles it may not like.
  22. For some reason I faintly recall reading that SVI recommended using .357 diameter 9mm projectiles with their barrels. Ive attempted to search but can't seem to find anything. Is anyone able to confirm/deny this? Id imagine it was in reference to lead/plated projectiles.
  23. Fiocchi aero 7/8th ounce reduced recoil slugs. I also find that my VM shoots slugs better with less choke.
  24. I couldnt imagine the frustration I would experience if the bolt locked back and I only needed 1 more round on a paper 5 yards away.
  25. Mine doesnt do that. I know because I test the striker block for function whenever I take my pistol apart. On the bright side, the striker is pulled back past that "click" point when being held by the sear.
