  1. Thanks guys. I plan on cutting the mag spring (depending on the factory length), welding the carrier, breaking the edge on the extractor area of the barrel, and filing down the shell latch a bit. Maybe in the future ill open the loading port. Do people typically cut the notches in the shell latch DEEPER or WIDER? If I screw it up I'll learn how to send a gun through the mail and get it to someone experienced.
  2. Well I've used my versamax in a few matches, and it runs 100%. But I want to make it a little easier to load. Before I do, I see a few complaints about versamax reliability after modification. What would cause the shell release to not work anymore? It seems to be a common complaint after modifying the shell catch or the magazine tube spring. What is the purpose behind removing the "small spring" on the bolt release? Thanks for any insight.
  3. Alright sounds good to me! I didnt like the appearance anyway!
  4. Just bought a new versamax tac. Used the search function but the word "choke" and "tactical" seem to bring up just about everything. Currently using the Imp Cyl choke that was already installed. Is there any benefit to running the tactical choke extention? It doesnt really tell me what the choke is, it simply states "tactical". and I dont have a set of calipers to measure it. Thanks for any insight.
  5. I have a pro and a 9l, on my 9l the rear sights pretty high. Seems to be fine. On my pro i have the same .305 front sight, and my rear is BOTTOMED OUT and it still shoots a little high .
  6. Just shot my 2nd USPSA (a classifier). It was also my first match as a USPSA member. Simple question, when can I expect my scores to be posted on the USPSA website? Do they do it on a specific date? Or is there just a processing period? (Match was shot on 4-14-13). Thanks.
  7. Ok so I went ahead and grabbed another M&P today after an IDPA to compliment the 9L Ive been using for a bit. Its a newer make with the fancy barrel, I checked before I bought. I took it out back at 20 YARDS and shot 7 rounds offhand. I was pretty pissed off when I saw a 5" group. Angrily I went and grabbed my Dan Wesson Heritage which I can easily shoot 1" groups with at 20 yards. I shot 7 rounds and was pretty embarrassed when I saw a 5" group. So I grabbed both my M&P's, went to 20 yards, laid on the ground and shot prone. My old M&P shot about a 4" group, My new Pro shot a 1.25" group, which could have easily been smaller as there were 2 distinct groups of 3 and 4. I repeated this 3 times and all my groups were 2" or under. Looked like this one specifically works well when you point it correctly. Ill be setting it up as my main usage gun and the other will become my backup. Only have 50 rounds through it so far so its far from definitive, but it seems to be a shooter.
  8. Art, Have you tried grouping shoddy factory ammo at 25 yards with the 2012 production barrel(I shoot mostly 115g factory)? Im about to purchase a new pistol for USPSA/IDPA and was considering moving to a glock. I really like the M&P and would like to stay American however. I have the old style barrel and get what feel like odd flyers a lot. In comparison my .45's I shoot very accurately. Im not sure by your posts if it was your custom loads that created the accuracy or the barrel.
  9. Thank you Mark for that hierarchy. Clears up some confusion for me. So if you win your class or division at an area match you would likely get an invite to nationals?
  10. Well the one match I shot I used my M&P 9 pro (production). Ill probably stick to production but I wouldn't mind owning a real sweet limited gun either. I love 1911's but I found in my area that IDPA SSP was much more competitive than the CDP class was, many more shooters in SSP. Im north of Detroit and there are many clubs around here for all different matches, really like the 3 gun (fun factor) but it seems much less organized than USPSA. 2nd shift really screws with my sleeping. I get home from work and Im just wired and ready to tinker with stuff. Its real bad on Saturdays when I have to wake up at 7:30 for a match but dont go to bed until 5 am.
  11. Thanks for the thoughts. I've been hounding this site and its search engine about damn near everything for a while now. A lot of good information. I want to be classified before I attempt to compete in any major matches, and completely in tune with the rules. Thanks again, Ill keep my eyes open.
  12. I just stated USPSA after doing 2 years or so of IDPA and some 3 gun/PCC. I want to get a little serious now that I've got a decent income and can afford it. I travel around my state a good amount and shoot what I can, but how do "Major" matches work? Must you be a certain class of shooter before you can attend? I've only shot a single USPSA but I liked it more than things Ive shot before. Getting my head around the rules and scoring right now but this is something I dont see much information on. Thanks for any advice.
  13. Haha Yeah I knew I would be beating the hell out of it, Just was wondering if there was anything someone could've taken off of it or screwed up somehow. I wouldnt imagine it to be an easy task. Ill keep looking around for a field model, Im not in a huge rush. Thanks for the thoughts guys.
  14. So ive been looking for a 21" M2 for some time, as I don't own an autoloader. Since its been months now and I haven't seen one pop up, I might just grab one of the seemingly plentiful 18.5" tacticals. The one at my LGS has the rifle sights on it. Reading around it seems as thought they are preferred over the ghost rings, and not a bad choice. My question is this: are there any problem spots, defects, or wear items I should inspect before my purchase? One shop has it on the shelf where anyone can fondle it, and there's no telling what could have been done to it. The other store has theirs behind the counter, but its 100$ more expensive. Thanks for any insight.
  15. I just started going to the IDPA practices over the winter at Linden sportsmans club. Now that ive got a taste of how comp shooting is, im going to try to make some multi-gun matches in livingston county, maybe some USPSA also if able. Im still trying to get my bearings pretty much but dont have any friends or relatives that compete so I started our real green!
  16. Recently shot a practice round where if you were shooting SSP (10+1 rounds) you would always hit slide lock while moving and shooting. 6 rounds on first target, move to cover. 2 rounds on 2 targets. While moving right to left, 2 rounds on one target. So basically you only have one round for that 2 round minimum target. Unless you dumped your 11th round, or reloaded with retention, you are going into slide lock. My question is this, is it okay at that point to reload while still moving right to left and re-engage the target? Or must you continue and reload when behind cover and re-engage for the 2nd shot? EDIT: Sorry I didnt see the "rules" subforum, please move if able.
  17. Not to turn this into another belt thread but Im not familiar with the keepers. This is my first setup and im hoping to start multi-gun at the start of the month (currently shooting IDPA). I was going to grab 2 of those combo packs, im not sure how many things ill need, but I dont mind overshooting a bit. If I have too much, I can use them as bribe material to get my friend involved. Currently I have: Cr speed belt 3x 4x4 ap customs shell carriers bladetech pro-series holster bladetech 2x M&P mag carrier So I have space on my belt to run separate rifle/pistol carriers, but I wanted to see what was favorable. Thanks for the info
  18. New guy from michigan here, been doing some IDPA stuff but came here looking for multi gun information. Hope to transition to it later this year! Good forum, plenty of information to digest!
  19. Does anybody have any experiences with the blade-tech pistol/rifle combo mag carriers? They have room for an ar mag, with 2 pistol mag slots in front of it. It seems like a decent way to save belt space since im only a 32". Was going to order some AR pouches but paused when I saw this option. The width and weight being far from my belt is somewhat of a concern. Thanks!
