  1. LaRue and DPMS and others might do a great deal for themselves if they moved the matches around region to region. It would no doubt open some markets for them. LaRue, DPMS, Ft Benning, Blue Ridge, Rocky Mountain - none of them have to move. They all fill up every year.
  2. Who do you think you're kidding, you bring your own pot and coffee!! But I will gladly provide the water and a 110v outlet for you... It is tough to get the coffee pot in my luggage - and then the airline breaks it. It helps if there is someone local who can donate a coffee pot. Otherwise, I have to purchase a cheap one & then leave it behind when I go. I do bring my own coffee pot if the range is within driving distance. Linda Chico Match Stats Linda, I'm driving - I'll bring a pot if needed. Mike
  3. We used to get the 305 range at Quantico for rec fire. We'd generally run 4 stages on 8 of the 16 firing positions - some short some long (450 meters). Then at the end of the day we'd have a team match. Each team (up to 4 shooters) had 3 lanes of targets, 400 target appearances in 8 minutes, highest hit count wins. That would be a trip!
  4. Craig, Ralph and I have been telling him for years that he runs like a girl but we never paid attention to the giggle. Now we know. Thanks!
  5. Trapr - give Scout a hug for Mary. We're not going to make it this year. Mike
  6. Any of you know how to get hold of Larry Houck? He has a bunch of rubber chickens.....
  7. Blackwater has a mover at ~75 yards that can be run from either direction and at different speeds. It does NOT need to be further out to be a challenge.
  8. Unless something happened between the time we shot the stage and you did, we knew it was low, the RO's were telling shooters it was low and AFAIK no one in our squad had a problem. The difference we noted was more like four inches. The windage was on and it wasn't an issue. FWIW, every AK variant I've shot has been low at close range. Even more so than an AR15/M16 platform.
  9. The M40 (or whatever the Army calls them) was zero'd at 600 yards and it was dead nuts on all weekend. The M203 would hit the car if you knew how to aim it. The M4's were rotated out and aside from a few shooters leaving them loaded, they worked and were on target for the three days of the match. The AMU has several armorers on site. I sincerely doubt that a prop gun - in this match - would be off at any range shooters were expected to hit with it.
  10. We've used stage guns at least 3 times at Ft Benning. All three of them were zero'd and I sincerely doubt that anything used at this match would not be zero'd.
  11. We started a stage at an FOP match in NC several years ago in the back of a Hummer with a PKM and 15 or 20 rounds. There were 4 bowling pins hanging from a piece of pipe down range and you had to make at least one of them move. You then bailed out of the Hummer, grabbed your rifle and ran down a road to a house. Targets were engaged from inside the house with both rifle and handgun. Made for a neat stage.
  12. Hamp, I'll "volunteer" to blow the GD bridge up! I'll even be nice! 12 pounds of C4, 50' of DET cord. We'll make it into souvenir tooth pics!
  13. Right Larry. Was it a real, live as in "porker" pig or.............................
  14. Rob, We used TSA targets last year... http://www.tacticalshooting.com/association/tsa_target.html and I expect we will see more of them this year.
  15. Trapr, Last year we didn't paint due to the distance and time constraints. It would have required a 4 wheeler and 30 to 40 minutes between squads to paint. I ran the long range stage and it wasn't necessary as all of the targets (12" flashers) had bright yellow board behind them. Don't know about longest distance this year. Last year was 426 yards.
  16. If this site is anything like last years, there are no bays. We drove from stage to stage. It's more like Rocky Mountain Cherryl.
  17. Dave, Gotta be below 1500fps. Mech Tech claims a 300fps increase over a 5" barrel and all of my open loads run 1400 to 1500 fps from a shorty. There's 1/4" of ice on top of several inches of snow and it's too cold to set the chrono up. Mike
  18. I want to add something to this. I've done 4 or 5 M2's and I also found that the recess where the shell latch is located is so sharp the it was cutting the side of my thumb nail off. You have to drive the pin out that holds the latch in - WATCH THE SPRING - remove the latch (actually very simple) and then smooth off the edge of the recess where the latch lives. Just the edge closest to the loading port.
  19. I have 2, true 1-4's (Burris XTR), 2 Leupold Mk4 1.5 to 5's and there is a vast difference. While I prefer the SPR reticle, the Burris is much faster up close. Not quite irons, but damn near.
  20. Have a local match Saturday that requires pistol caliber carbines. Search doesn't show loads with referenced powders.
  21. Slip 2000 makes something they call "Carbon Killer". Not the end all or the be all but it seems to work better than most other carbon removers.
  22. Competitors shot all three days last year and I'm told they will shoot all three this year too.
