  1. After a regular Lee sizing die you can still feel a slight ridge. Nothing like what was there to start. I may load some up and shoot them through my XDM to see if they flatten out.
  2. I just went to the range this weekend with my 2011, STI frame Caspian slide and Schuemann 40 AET barrel. When I talked to Mr. Schuemann on the phone a couple of weeks back we got to discussing the chamber reliefs to help with case extraction. So after firing some loads, mostly factory, I picked up my brass to reload it. I definitely noticed the 6 ribs running down the cases. I tried resizing the brass and you can still see the ribs. What is everyone else's experience? BTW the Schuemann barrel is the cats meow. At 20 yards off hand I was shooting 3 shot groups with each hole touching each other. A+ on this one.
  3. I ended up doing what DKS suggested. I tried a dremel but there are really no good choices to get right up to the wall and swing the radius. The scraper worked it just too some time in the steel frame.
  4. OK quick question. To those of you who have cut frames for a Clark\Para\Lissner ramp, how did you get the radius on the frame all the way to the side of the standing lug slot?
  5. I saw those but no stainless and no serrations I was looking for. And for some of the prices I figured it was worth the wait.
  6. FYI I just ordered a slide from Caspian, nothing special but with options they offered. I was quoted up to 8 weeks and this was not from their web site but from Gary Smith at Caspian. Its gonna be a long wait.
  7. After I did the sights and a trigger job its a fun gun to shoot. It is pretty accurate and has functioned with everything I have run through it from WWB to light load 100gr frangible slugs. I have shot my wife's 130 PF 147 grain loads through it also. All in all I think its a keeper. I have two Matches, in .40SW and .38 Super, so being a small frame is different, not bad just different. When I bench rested it after the sights were done it grouped well, about 2" groups at 25 yards.
  8. Hi all, I have a set of Truglo TG131K, the non-tritium, sights on my Kimber Custom II. I am looking for a rear adjustable sight that will work with the front Truglo that will bring the center of the dot to POI. Right now it shoots for a 6 o'clock hold, I don't like it for shooting Single Stack. I know the slide will have to be cut, that's not a big deal. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  9. I don't know if there is anything in it different but it looks like the small frame 9mm classic I just did sights on. My link Sorry for no whole frame picture. It looks like the only difference is mine is stamped Italy not the Philippines. When I received mine the front sight dot was cut off about 1/3 the way through and shot very low. This is why I did the complete set of sights for it.
  10. Well it took some time, due to back ordered sights and dovetail cutters, but it is done. I removed the front sight and dove tailed the front slide for a Novak serrated sight. I have to say I am not impressed with the quality of the sight. The dove tail on the base was so far off I had to cut a custom front slot. The sight measured .330 wide all right but the bottom corners had .010 chamfers, making the actual dovetail .355 wide. The gun shot 6" low from the start so a new rear sight was in order. The LPA rear sight dovetail was not correct in the slide. The front angle barely touched the sight. So I re-cut the rear as well. Having done this I made a custom rear sight based on the CZ design. This shots right on now at 25 yards. I do need to re-blue the rear sight but over all it is much better than it was. Enjoy.
  11. I load 3.6gr of TG under a 147 Berrys at 1.160 OAL for my wifes 1911, 5" barrel. I went as low as 3.2 and the gun cycled fine. This was a stock setup. I agree that running at 3.6, the listed max, seems odd but it was the only way to make minor through her 1911 with that powder. I may switch her over as she is loading her own now.
  12. I had a problem like this on my wife's 9mm 1911. Come to find out I have to open up the top of the magazine on the back where the slide runs thru. The magazine had a half round cut there that the slide would dig into when it cycled. Cleaning that out made a world of difference.
  13. I have a Dawson Ice on my Kimber. Up here in the north east my season doesn't start until the end of this month. I can tell you one thing with the Ice installed it just fits the box, with my sights and such. The main thing is that the magazine base pads do not sit too far below the mag well, they are about flush. For me I think this is going to be an issue seating them. I was running one similar tot he Smith and Alexander one above and it worked well for me.
  14. I don't see why not. I use IMR 4895, its cousin, with Sierra Match King 69gr in my MP15 with a 16" barrel. I also have used IMR 3031. IMR 4895 gave me better results. Hodgdon lists H4895 on their online reloading tables. They also list loads for bullets up to 90gr. Check out their web page lots of info there.
  15. Although I don't have a gold I do have a Match in 38S. I ran some Magtech's, I think the same as you are the blue box, and my Match hated them. Didn't want to feed didn't cycle well. By this I mean the slide would sometimes come back, eject the case, but not far enough to grab the next round out of the magazine. Before that I ran some Winchester White Box that was great with one exception, the rounds were so long I could only put 4 in the magazine before the nose of the bullet at the bottom would bind on the inner wall jamming up the follower. I know load using both the Winchester and Magtech cases with a Montana gold 124gr HP with zero issues. They are a little more stout than the two factory loads.
  16. I have used Missouri 250gr lead, Hornady Cowboy 250 grain and Hornady XTP 250 grain bullets. The lead loads I usually use 5.0 grains of Titegroup for a nice soft fun range load. I have also used Power Pistol but didn't like it very much so scratched it from my records. Now wait for it. I do on occasion load up the 250 grain XTP's with just about 20 grains of AA5744. It is a little intimidating at first when you consider I load up my Sharps with a 405gr in a .45-70 at around 21.6 grains of 5744. This is a Ruger T/C load and should only be used in gun with a strong enough action. It has some kick, not as bad as you would think. BTW this is a listed load in the Hornady manual, it is a few tenths of a grain below the lower listing. That's why I stick with TG and lead.
  17. Hi all. I just added a small frame Classic 9mm to my EAA collection. I was wondering if anyone who has one of these if they have done any front sight work. Being part of the slide there are not replacements. I am thinking there are 3 ways to upgrade it. The standard side install dovetail, the EAA front install dovetail, and the CZ75 slot and pin method. Using the EAA front dovetail you could use a Match front sight. The side dovetail just find a sight of the correct height and cut the slot. The CZ slot and pin method a custom sight could be made to what I want. The nice thing is measuring my 2 Match's it looks like that rear adjustable sight should go in with a little fitting. I am curious to see what other people have done. Thanks.
  18. Is anyone using round nose 180gr 40's in their EAA Witness Match's ? I am going to order slugs and saw them as an option. I know some flat nose have a problem feeding some times. I am not worried about m y other 40's they swallow anything. Thanks.
  19. Hello all, I am looking for some guidance for a wheel gun for the misses. She has come to every shoot last year with me and is interested in giving it a try. I currently shoot Single Stack and Production. She has shot my automatics but feels more comfortable with a revolver. I have a 6" GP100 but she tells me its a little on the front heavy side for her. I would like something with moon clips, I think she would do better than with speed loaders. I know you can get a GP100 cut for them, but the clips are $$$$. A 625 would be nice but there seem to be few options here. The nice thing is I reload for my 1911 so its not much more to go 45. So anyone else have options that might work for her. Thanks
  20. Yup that's why I said take it for what its worth. When reloading 38 Super the book shows COALs that are VERY short compared to others and factory loads. The SAAMI drawing shows 1.220 - 1.280.
  21. Looking at the 7th Edition from Hornady the 38 Auto and 38 Super cases are the same. SAAMI shows for the chamber and round drawings for the 38 Auto to see the 38 Super drawing. Please remember not to use the 38 Super load data for the 38 Auto! The SAAMI specs for the above are for case and chamber dimensions only and NOT chamber pressures, those are separate SAAMI specs. The 7th Hornady shows the following for starting loads for the 38 Automatic. 110gr .357" dia COAL 1.100" 700x 4.4gr Bullseye 4.5gr Unique 5.4 115gr .355" dia COAL 1.115" Red Dot 4.0gr Bullseye 4.2gr Unique 5.1gr 1.25gr .357" dia COAL 1.060" COAL Bullseye 4.1gr Red Dot 4.2gr Unique 5.2gr Herco 5.6gr Take these for what its worth as I do not load this particular load. These are the lowest loads that the book lists. Hope it helps.
  22. Thanks guys. I moved the 38s to 1.250 and it still chambered and fit int eh magazine. For the 226 I loaded to 1.100, as well it fit the magazine and chambered fine. They are loaded on the light end for powder so well start there.
  23. I received my 124gr JHP MG bullets Saturday. Now I have a few question.I plan on using these for both 9mm, P226 and XDM for general shooting , and 38S, for my EAA Witness Match. Currently I am using Power Pistol in my 9mm 115 loads, 5.6rg at 1.100" COAL. Starting with the 38S, I noticed that most people are loading them long. It is my understanding that the MG is very close in dimension to the Hornady XTP of similar size. The Hornady 7th edition lists a COAL of 1.210, I made up a few at 6.2gr at this length. They feed fine in my EAA,I know at 1.265 Winchester 130gr factory jams in the magazine. It seem likes most people are loading around 1.260+ with a similar slug. I am working up a load for the 9mm, same powder, and found similar information here. It seems a lot of people are loading 1.100+ and the manual lists 1.060" COAL. Any information would be helpful.
  24. I had a similar issue but thank goodness for a video camera. I had a rifle stage where we started out behind a barrel for the first 6 shots. At the end of the stage someone pointed out that the barrel had 6 holes in the lip. It looked like the muzzle was too low. The RO thought it was me. My wife was videoing the stage. When we looked at the video during "make ready" you could see the holes in the barrel from where she was standing. So it happened before me. Got lucky on that one.
  25. I'm looking to see what brands and types other people have used and their opinions on quality etc..
