Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. After a regular Lee sizing die you can still feel a slight ridge. Nothing like what was there to start. I may load some up and shoot them through my XDM to see if they flatten out.
  2. I just went to the range this weekend with my 2011, STI frame Caspian slide and Schuemann 40 AET barrel. When I talked to Mr. Schuemann on the phone a couple of weeks back we got to discussing the chamber reliefs to help with case extraction. So after firing some loads, mostly factory, I picked up my brass to reload it. I definitely noticed the 6 ribs running down the cases. I tried resizing the brass and you can still see the ribs. What is everyone else's experience? BTW the Schuemann barrel is the cats meow. At 20 yards off hand I was shooting 3 shot groups with each hole touching each other. A+ on this one.
  3. I ended up doing what DKS suggested. I tried a dremel but there are really no good choices to get right up to the wall and swing the radius. The scraper worked it just too some time in the steel frame.
  4. OK quick question. To those of you who have cut frames for a Clark\Para\Lissner ramp, how did you get the radius on the frame all the way to the side of the standing lug slot?
  5. I saw those but no stainless and no serrations I was looking for. And for some of the prices I figured it was worth the wait.
  6. FYI I just ordered a slide from Caspian, nothing special but with options they offered. I was quoted up to 8 weeks and this was not from their web site but from Gary Smith at Caspian. Its gonna be a long wait.
  7. After I did the sights and a trigger job its a fun gun to shoot. It is pretty accurate and has functioned with everything I have run through it from WWB to light load 100gr frangible slugs. I have shot my wife's 130 PF 147 grain loads through it also. All in all I think its a keeper. I have two Matches, in .40SW and .38 Super, so being a small frame is different, not bad just different. When I bench rested it after the sights were done it grouped well, about 2" groups at 25 yards.
  8. Hi all, I have a set of Truglo TG131K, the non-tritium, sights on my Kimber Custom II. I am looking for a rear adjustable sight that will work with the front Truglo that will bring the center of the dot to POI. Right now it shoots for a 6 o'clock hold, I don't like it for shooting Single Stack. I know the slide will have to be cut, that's not a big deal. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  9. I don't know if there is anything in it different but it looks like the small frame 9mm classic I just did sights on. My link Sorry for no whole frame picture. It looks like the only difference is mine is stamped Italy not the Philippines. When I received mine the front sight dot was cut off about 1/3 the way through and shot very low. This is why I did the complete set of sights for it.
  10. Well it took some time, due to back ordered sights and dovetail cutters, but it is done. I removed the front sight and dove tailed the front slide for a Novak serrated sight. I have to say I am not impressed with the quality of the sight. The dove tail on the base was so far off I had to cut a custom front slot. The sight measured .330 wide all right but the bottom corners had .010 chamfers, making the actual dovetail .355 wide. The gun shot 6" low from the start so a new rear sight was in order. The LPA rear sight dovetail was not correct in the slide. The front angle barely touched the sight. So I re-cut the rear as well. Having done this I made a custom rear sight based on the CZ design. This shots right on now at 25 yards. I do need to re-blue the rear sight but over all it is much better than it was. Enjoy.
  11. I load 3.6gr of TG under a 147 Berrys at 1.160 OAL for my wifes 1911, 5" barrel. I went as low as 3.2 and the gun cycled fine. This was a stock setup. I agree that running at 3.6, the listed max, seems odd but it was the only way to make minor through her 1911 with that powder. I may switch her over as she is loading her own now.
  12. I had a problem like this on my wife's 9mm 1911. Come to find out I have to open up the top of the magazine on the back where the slide runs thru. The magazine had a half round cut there that the slide would dig into when it cycled. Cleaning that out made a world of difference.
  13. I have a Dawson Ice on my Kimber. Up here in the north east my season doesn't start until the end of this month. I can tell you one thing with the Ice installed it just fits the box, with my sights and such. The main thing is that the magazine base pads do not sit too far below the mag well, they are about flush. For me I think this is going to be an issue seating them. I was running one similar tot he Smith and Alexander one above and it worked well for me.
  14. I don't see why not. I use IMR 4895, its cousin, with Sierra Match King 69gr in my MP15 with a 16" barrel. I also have used IMR 3031. IMR 4895 gave me better results. Hodgdon lists H4895 on their online reloading tables. They also list loads for bullets up to 90gr. Check out their web page lots of info there.
  15. Although I don't have a gold I do have a Match in 38S. I ran some Magtech's, I think the same as you are the blue box, and my Match hated them. Didn't want to feed didn't cycle well. By this I mean the slide would sometimes come back, eject the case, but not far enough to grab the next round out of the magazine. Before that I ran some Winchester White Box that was great with one exception, the rounds were so long I could only put 4 in the magazine before the nose of the bullet at the bottom would bind on the inner wall jamming up the follower. I know load using both the Winchester and Magtech cases with a Montana gold 124gr HP with zero issues. They are a little more stout than the two factory loads.
