  1. Nope. Sized 0.001" under my headspace. But it's machinegun brass and I'm firing it in a FAL (which is hard on brass).
  2. Good idea on the dental pick (pic?) - the paperclip is so flexible it's hard to get a good feel with it. I'll have to pick one of those up.
  3. I started having case head separations on some surplus .308 brass (after multiple firings, the first I assume is machine guns), so now I'm doing the paperclip test as part of brass processing. For now I'm scrapping any cases in which I feel ANYTHING with the paperclip - but I wonder if I'm being too strict. What is your criteria for scrapping? Feeling just a rough spot? Feeling a very slight and smooth indention? Or only if you feel a pronounced groove? All of this is before I start to see the ring around the outside. And has anybody come up with a more efficient way to check this? The paperclip takes for ever!!
  4. I'm not able to attend this time - but I just want to add that I love these rules and the spirit of the match! Keep it up, and I hope it spreads and I'm able to join you one day.
  5. Good point - they are very much alive and about to beat me again, I'm sure! I'll be curious to see if they're still loading old-school weak hand. ;-)
  6. This sounds a lot like the IPSC rules at the Benelli Championship. It took a lot of flak and I was doubtful, but I really enjoyed the variety of stages and rulesets. The slug scoring ate my lunch, but I really enjoyed it. The no shoots were a new thing for me, but I never did hit one.
  7. I've been beaten by folks loading old school weak hand. But it might have something to do with who those folks were, and how much they practiced.
  8. Agreed - great match! Thanks for the RO tips Paul - I vote we do pushups in the mud on the clock in between shooting positions if we have this weather again. No sense wasting all that good mud!
  9. "870's aren't reliable enough" Can you clarify this statement? What goes wrong? I've been running an 870 for years and never had a problem, but I'm not shooting 10,000rds a year either.
  10. Ran into this issue yesterday at a match; going fast and overran the gun. I'll verify it's a problem (make sure it's not me), but once I do, I need to get this done. Do you know of any smiths offering this mod? Nope - I got my first one from StealthyBlagga, and made the second one myself. If you send me your action bars only (I'm no FFL so I can't receive the whole gun) I'll mod it up for you, but I can't match that finish you have. I can do parkerizing or black Gunkote (unless you want to send me some Gunkote of whatever color you want). PM me for details -
  11. I wore one at the 10k Oklahoma Run N Gun (rifle/pistol "centerfire biathlon") just to pace myself. My head cam happened to catch the readout when I was shooting, and it was interesting to see my heartrate was usually around 160 bpm while shooting. It makes the 500yd shot especially challenging! While running I tried to keep it averaging around 175 bpm (90% of my max heartrate).
  12. Good deal - I'm working on this too. "Level One" for me was visualizing the targets in the order I would shoot them, from a first person view point. That helped me be more efficient with stage execution and not forget targets. Once I got that down I realized I was seeing the targets just fine during live fire, but I wasn't always seeing my sights! ;-) So "Level Two" is visualizing my sight picture on each and every target in the order I would shoot them, from a first person view point. And now I see my sights and hit the targets much better during live fire. I'm sure there's a "Level Three", but I haven't gotten there yet.
  13. Shhhh - you'll let the secret out and it'll be all crowded and stuff!
  14. Would a plated RN work? Midway has Rainier on clearance right now. I tried 500 and they worked fine (I normally shoot 230gr FMJ Zero but couldn't get them), so I just bought 3,000 more.
  15. Did you get a new rifle or something? That is a LOT of rifle! Looking forward to it -
  16. Thanks for the response! I have Lanny Bassham's book and have read it several times now. It has definitely helped me a lot.But just like sometimes, even though I KNOW I'm supposed to pull the trigger without disturbing the sights - I fail and it happens anyway. I KNOW I'm supposed to focus on the process and try my best to do so, but sometimes my mind creeps in and gets in the way. Damn ego. ;-) I guess I need to read that book again...
  17. Something I've noticed repeatedly now - whether in dry fire practice, live fire practice, or in a match: When I'm cruising along, focused on the action and fully in the present, things go well. Things sometimes go so well that I think "damn, I'm smokin' this run/drill/etc.". Yes, instead of focusing on the process, just for a split second I think about how I'm doing well. And that's when things fall apart. And no matter how many times I tell myself: "See? You're NOT really awesome, and you need to stay in the present", sooner or later things go well again and my ego jumps back up and gets in the way. I swear my own mind is laughing at me sometimes. Its ability to screw with me is legendary.
  18. Yes. It holds mags plenty secure enough to make sure aren't going to leave anything laying on the ground when you get up from prone. I used it at Blue Ridge this past fall, which is one of the most physical matches in the country. No issues with stuff falling out. That includes jumping out of the barn loft.Full disclosure- I'm not sponsored by HSGI and paid for my leg rig. . I just like their products. Are you wearing this on Sunday? I'd like to check it out -
  19. Yes - weld up and machine/file/grind down. If I remember right, StealthyBlagga used a TIG. I just made a second copy and used a wire feed flux core 110V cheap-o welder (all I had). I won't lie - it's a giant pain in the butt to do. But it works. You might run yours for a bit and see if you have a problem first. If it's feeding well I wouldn't fool with it. If you get a lot of FTFs and are sure you didn't short stroke it, it may be time for the mod.
