  1. I won't have $2k in it, and that's with 4 140mm mags and some kind of an extra comp. I was thinking about changing it over to a 9 but everything I've read says the 38 super is softer and flatter shooting. I'm not too worried about the cost, it's availability of components that worries me.
  2. Thanks for the help guys. Once the gun arrives I'll post pics of it disassembled. I've seen that comp before also, but the name is "eluding me" at the moment. I was told the barrel measured 5", but I tend to not believe things until I check myself.
  3. LOL It is giant. So I take it this would qualify as a "shorty" (4.25"")?
  4. I work at a gunshop and I recently started looking for a 2011 open gun to start "playing with". I'm currrently running an open Glock or M&P and I enjoy shooting them very much. They're fast and reliable and I think they can hang with anything else in the open division. BUT I keep hearing "buy a 2011" so I found one I could get for a REALLY good price and I am considering buying it. All I know about the gun is its an STI frame and grip, it has a CMore mounted on a Dawson mount (I think), it has an extra compensator (STI T2) that comes with it. It appears to me that the slide is void of any identifying marks, so I take it its not a STI slide (upper half). Honestly because I can't tell from the pics I'm still trying to figure out if its a full size or a shorty. They told me it was a 5" but it looks short to me. The gun is in transit from another shop for me to check out right now, so I don't really know anything else about it and I won't until it gets here. I added a couple pics and I wondered if you guys could help me identify the comp, mount (if I'm wrong), etc.. I'm new to 2011's, I just wanna know what it is I'm thinking of buying and if you guys think it's "worthy" or not. Thanks.
  5. Great post!!! I'm in the same boat as you. I can get great hits, but....(see OP's post) I'm planning to try a little something different tomorrow. I'm gonna burn my way through anything 10 yards or less, focus on footwork, reloads, etc., and try to slow down on all the long stuff. I seem to always go one way or they other. Finding the comfortable medium is TOUGH!!!
  6. I just "completed" a M&P9 4.25" open gun. Used Bobby Carver compensator and storm lake barrel as well as his guiderod assembly, a SJC magwell, added an APEX CAEK and AEK trigger, and I dovetail mounted a Deltapoint. Very nice gun, very flat shooting. Bobby should be releasing his mount and magwell soon. I'll keep you posted. I have already decided that's the way I'm going.
  7. Try running 1.150-1.155, I'm using the exact same setup.
  8. Faster reloads, less weight on my belt. When I use 4 170mm mags (one in the gun, 3 on the belt) and I have to really explode out of a position it feels like I move then my mags move. Stopping is the same, I stop my mags want to keep on going. I use 140's because they're faster to reload and 3 170's on my belt feels like I'm carrying two extra guns!!!
  9. Joe I've got more load info from you than anyone else. I'm gonna run that AC load this year, might change if I find any 3N37 bit that's not looking promising.
  10. After all the research and after starting to test loads I walk into my job and find 2# of AutoComp on the shelf. Oh well, at least I have backup data now.
  11. I installed both the CAEK and the AEK aluminum trigger today. I think I'm going back to my standard trigger bar. The AEK trigger feels toyish to me and doesn't accomplish that same light feel that just the CAEK does on its own. Just my two cents.
  12. I actually installed the AEK trigger and CAEK today. As well as the rest of my parts. The trigger works great. Apparently the AEK trigger and the FS AEK trigger are two different things. You can tell the difference by looking for the two dimples on the standard AEK trigger. The FSS kit comes with the other one.
  13. I shoot for Carver. If your using the standard competition mount with the CMore SlideRide you'll need your ejection port lowered. If you want you can use the mini-rail / STS combo and you won't need to lower the ejection port at all but the STS has a very limited field of view. Bobby has begun making RTS mounts now, the RTS gives you a similar FOV as the SlideRide but has the added advantage of being a "micro" red dot that mounts to a mini-rail and doesn't require lowering of the ejection port. In other words, best of both worlds. My G34 with RTS mount should be finished soon. I'll post pics when it arrives. Just a heads up. Carver M&P mounts and magwells will be available VERY soon. For you M&P guys out there. I'm waiting on those as well.
  14. I got an order in right before they shut down the old website. 124gr 9mm CMJ. Took 10 weeks to ship. That sounds like alot but with the way things are going these days I was happy with that. I had an order in with X-treme bullets that took 13 weeks. Still not horrible, but hopefully we get back to normal soon.
  15. I have a chrono, and I highly appreciate the tips on a starting point. Thanks!!!
  16. Sorry. 124gr Montana Gold CMJ. Mixed brass, federal small pistol primers.
  17. Anyone here running a open M&P9? What load are you using to make major? What's your OAL? I'm starting an open M&P build and I'm trying to get a little data together. Anyone know how long I can load out to in the M&P? I have all the parts to assemble my new open division M&P project. I just need some load information. I'll be using a 4.25" M&P9, Storm Lake barrel, Carver 4 port comp, Carver stainless guiderod, ISMI springs, SJC magwell, SSS deltapoint dovetail mount, 7moa delta Leupold deltapoint, Apex CAEK, Apex aluminum AEK trigger. That's it I think. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks in advance for any help with the load data.
  18. I have a couple new open pistols that are almost finished. One is a G34 from Carver, the other a M&P9. I have good load data for both guns, but its for AutoComp not HS6. I have some AC backordered but none on hand. I have a TON of HS6 on hand and I know it's a viable alternative but I need some info before proceeding. I am currently running an COAL of 1.135. My guns always seem to like that length. I've heard that many shooters run a bit longer (1.15) but I am wondering if I have to do that or if I can run my loads at their current length while taking the charge down by .1-.2 . I'm not new to reloading but I am very new to 9mm major. I'm looking for a good starting point, info on OAL, and info on what I need to be looking for to know whether or not I'm running too hot. Looking to make 168-170pf. Any help would be greatly appreciated. (Sorry if that paragraph seems a little "scatter-brained", it's hard to properly communicate with a temperature of 100 degrees + and a bad case of pneumonia) :-)
  19. Reloads = no help from Glock. That's how I've always understood it. I can't believe they're helping you. That's awesome.
  20. The gun looks to be running pretty flat. Have you considered getting a more efficient compensator? You could add a Carver 4 port comp and that gun would run paper flat. I used to run a 40 in open before switching to 9mm major. My 40 was much easier to tune and it ran dead flat.
  21. Everything I've ordered from SSS has arrived within two weeks from the day I ordered it. Not bad considering how crazy the firearms world is right now.
  22. Im using the CAEK with the AEK trigger in a new open div project. I use the CAEK in my production gun. If a light trigger is what you're after the CAEK is the way to go. If you're looking for less pretravel go with the FSS. Being one who is used to firing striker fired weapons a little pre travel doesn't bother me, I like a light trigger and the CAEK accomplishes that 100%.
  23. Can't wait for next year. I had to go half speed this year due to a case of pneumonia (stopped me from working but shooting...not so much). I shot accurately but slow, managed 2nd in my class but that's really not a big accomplishment (2nd of the worst) LOL Next year I'm gonna hit it harder. Can't wait!!! I'm still fired up!!!
  24. Awesome match Corey!!! Thanks to you and the sponsors for making it happen. I left with a plaque for 2nd in my class, a $275 trigger, and a bunch of other freebies. Actually pulled of my very minor win with a very major case of bronchitis. I'm sure ill do batter next year. Great match and thanks to all that were involved. I WILL be back next year.
  25. Ill be there on Saturday. Can't wait!!! Anyone know which is the best hotel to stay at the night before? (Zappatrick, round count is 255)
