  1. One other question.... Are you having any magazine related problems such as feeding issues or slide lock back problems ?

  3. Will a 5" STI Eagle with the optional aluminum mag well fit in the box ? If not, what are your recommendations ?
  4. Duane, didn't you have problems recently with an STI Eagle in 9mm ? Trust me I would rather stay with 9mm but only if I'm not going to have a ton of problems with magazines. I'm too much of a die hard Glock shooter to want to buy a $$$ gun and have to constantly tweak and tune it. My 1050 is already set-up for 9mm and I have a bunch of bullets and brass to go with it but the press can be converted and new components bought if that's what it takes.
  5. OK guys, I'm still on the 1911 fence and after much discussion and research have started to think that maybe a STI doublestack in .40 may be the way to go instead of 9mm. Part of the reason I am leaning this way is that it seems almost everyone has feeding problems with 9mm. How do the 10 round .40 mags work ? With the popularity of the .40's in USPSA & IPSC my thinking is that there has been more development and innovation for the .40's than for the 9's. ????
  6. I've got middle age eyes as well and have had good luck on my G34 with a Heinie rear that has had the notch opened to .160" and a Dawson FO front. The trick seems to be the daylight in the rear notch in conjunction with the bright front sight.
  7. I can buy the Oakleys with LE discount and they're still too high dollar for me. I've also heard that the soles aren't the best when it comes to wet conditions. Take a look at the Ridge Air Tac boot, almost all police supplys carry them and the guys I know that wear them won't have anything else. The sole is farly aggressive and the price is more to my liking too, somewhere in the $75.00 range. As soon as I wear out my current pair of Rockys I'm going to try them.
  8. G34 for IDPA. Practice ammo is cheaper and reloading components, brass & bullets, are cheaper. Recoil isn't an issue with downloaded .40 but isn't an issue with 9mm no matter if it's downloaded or not. 9mm Glocks seem to run forever also.
  9. Matt Burkett wrote: "The S I's have been legal since the inception of the sport. How are they going to justify their removal?" The same way they justified the removal of the 5" S&W 625, they declare that it isn't "practical" for everyday carry and ban it. It's pure BS and purely subjective but then IDPA never has never been about anything other than Bill Wilson's view of the world. Having said all that I enjoy shooting it and will continue for the foreseeable future but as long as the issue of whether or not the S_I's will be allowed is hanging I won't be spending money on one.
  10. Guess I'll wait until the new LGB before I make up my mind. All this "tactical" BS gets my dander up. If you keep score it's a game - period. IDPA resembles a gun fight about as much as a NASCAR race resembles driving on I-20.....Tactical in my mind denotes offensive, as opposed to, defensive, actions which would be in direct conflict with the "defensive" definition of IDPA. Anyway I don't think I'll be sinking the kind of money I'm talking about into a new gun with even the possibility that Bill and company will decide that it's not "tactical" enough. Glock On !!!!!
  11. Sorry Dave but I'm not Iron Mike, I just stole his avatar. I have shot your gun though....
  12. I've been shooting Glocks in IDPA since day 1 and have come to the conclusion that I want to take the step up to ESP and go with a widebody 1911 in 9mm. I've looked at the SVI Burkett Cross Competitor and the STI Eagle and like both, price favors the STI but I'm not ruling out the SVI just yet. Are there any tips, tricks, ideas, or options that I need to consider before I start ordering ?
  13. I'm running a .125" wide Dawson FO with a Heinie rear with the notch opened to .160" on my G34. Plenty of daylight around the FS.
  14. 4.2 of Titegroup and an OAL of 1.140. Runs about 1170 out of my G34 and runs the gun pretty flat. I've been loading Rainiers with this load but my last bullet order was Zero's, I don't imagine the MG's would be that much different. At 4.2 your .2 below Hodgdon's listed max for a 125 gr bullet. You could also load longer if you needed to for reliability. I've shot several thousand of this load and several other guys I shoot with use it also, most everyone likes it.
  15. As long as both loads make PF I don't think it would be an issue. Would you catch flack from some of the "tacticians" ? Probably but I've never noticed anyone paying attention to what I was loading my mags with. I don't know why you would want to do it though. If it were me I would be more worried about the difference in recoil, gun cycling, sight picture etc, between the 2 loads. I shoot a G34 in SSP and my pet load runs at about a 145 PF with less perceived recoil (subjective, I know) than WWB or Blazer. Not worth it in my opinion.
  16. I have a slight amount of astigmatism in my dominant eye which my opthamologist elected to not correct. I've worn contacts for the past 8 years and shot for every one of them with no problems. Drying is always an issue as are extremely dusty conditions but so far nothing I haven't been able to handle. Some antihistamines make the drying issue worse but as previously suggested keep re-wetting drops available and you should be fine. I wear Oakleys and haven't had any vision problems. I also were the Focus Monthly contacts and have had good luck with them. FWIW at my last eye appointment I spoke with my Dr. about being able to see my sights as middle age is upon me. He decided to up my contact prescription a bit to allow me to focus at sight distances but also was willing to prescribe a "shooting" contact for my dominant eye if needed to obtain the required focus. Luckily I didn't need it. You might ask your Dr. about the same thing and explain to him, as I did, that you need to be able to focus at a given distance to shoot and see what he says.
  17. 4.2 of Titegroup with a 124 gr Rainier at 1.130" OAL. I'm about out of Rainiers and thinking about going to Zeros on my next bullet order. Runs about 1100 for a 136 PF out of a G17 and about 1160 for a 143 PF out of a G34. Less recoil and flip than whitebox or Blazer.
  18. The standard, not the Slant Pro's. I'm running the standard with a .160" wide rear notch and a Dawson FO front sight on my G34 for IDPA. Awesome sight picture and acquisition speed !!
  19. My new rear sight arrived from Heinie yesterday and I just installed it. It was of the "sledgehammer" installation variety. The one I removed has definitely had material removed from it as it is appx .010" shorter in dovetail height and .010" - .015" narrower than the new one. It goes without saying that it's already in the trash..... Thanks to all who replied with ideas for fixes, I filed them all in the memory bank for future reference !!
  20. Flexmoney: That is my "usual" experience with Heinie's also but this one is a different animal. As I think back this particular sight may be one I bought from a friend of mine and I "assumed" that it was new. The bottom showed signs of having been sanded or something when I removed it last night and it sure didn't happen when it was installed on my G34!!
  21. I took the sight off the gun last night and compared it to a NIW Straight 8 rear that I had and it was measured smaller in the height and width of the dovetail. I ordered a new rear from Heinie yesterday and will measure it when it comes in and compare. The set screw idea had run through my mind as well and if I have further issues that is most likely what I'll do. I hadn't thought of the peening method but that sounds like a good idea also. Thanks for all the ideas !!

    Glock Dovetails

Has anyone had any problem with oversize, rear sight dovetails ? I have a new G34 that I set-up with a Heinie rear and a Dawson FO front and during dry fire last night I noticed that the rear sight was loose in the dovetail to the point that it could be moved by hand. I've shot a couple of matches so far with this gun and done fairly well but didn't notice the rear sight issue until last night. I've put new sights on probably a few hundred Glocks over the years and I've never seen this happen before. Ideas ??
  23. Another vote for Comp Tac. I, also use the standard paddle, not the locking paddle. I like them well enough that I've got one for my G27, G23, G17/22's and G34. Another big plus for Comp Tac is their customer service, one of their "distributors" owed me a couple of mag pouches that I paid for but never got and I called Comp Tac to try and locate the guy, managed to get Greg when I called and even though it wasn't his problem he sent me the pouches that day at no charge and said that he would settle up with the other guy when he saw him. You aren't going to find many guys like that !!
