Bottle neck case trimming options?
willfully armed replied to willfully armed's topic in Rifle/Shotgun
I forgot about Giraud. I think the power trimmer will be my purchase. Thank you sir! -
I used to trim cases with a Lyman trimmer, but I stopped shooting rifle for a period and sold the trimmer to a friend. In it's stead, I use little crow WFT for 308. I've started loading 223 again, and wonder, is the WFT the better option? Or something along the lines of the case prep stations?

I did go ahead and run 10 with 25.0, a tad on the spicy side, flattened primers but no flow.

300 blackout - Magnum or Standard primers?
willfully armed replied to workingmanjeff's topic in Rifle/Shotgun
I've loaded about every offering for the BO, subs to supers, light to heavy... and for s#!ts and grins, standard and magnum primers. I've not seen a single instance of improvement over a standard primer, when a magnum was used. Thereby, I've not seen any need to use a component not intended for the caliber. -
I have been loading 55gr FMJ over 25.0 H335 at 2.230". Primers do tend to flatten, but no flow around the primer crater. I've got an old box of 55gr VMAX that Im planning on loading, since they're no good sitting in a drawer. My manuals don't explicitly list the VMAX. Online offerings are all over the place. Anywhere from 23.0 to 26.3. Who has data for this combo? It's going through a WOA 18" SPR, Wylde chamber. Yes, I know "work up to it", but as stated before, I don't have hard data.

Powder Measure Baffle
willfully armed replied to jim m's topic in Dillon Precision Reloading Equipment
Yes is the only correct answer. I used rubber bands to hold it to the powder drop. Would've used tape, but I didn't want residue. -
Since I'm middling on the never ending quest for IMR8208XBR, I had attempted to email Hodgdon several times with no replies. So, today I finally remembered to call during business hours. Its a simple question. "Might you have any realistic idea of when another batch of 8208 could appear?" To which the reply was simple, made by a simple man(think Simple Jack- No, we have no way of know what will become available, or any time frames. Junior, I might be dumb, but I'm sure not stupid. A company that manufacturers and distributes its own product would not in business all these years without the ability to dictate and forecast product schedules. That is all my hate for meow.

Powder Measure Baffle
willfully armed replied to jim m's topic in Dillon Precision Reloading Equipment
This should only be a necessity when using extruded powders. And, honestly when Dillon suggested I use an aquarium air pump, I was extremely disappointed in their problem solving abilities. I do understand the vibrating action helps settle powder grains, but an air pump isn't the answer. And honestly they should at least offer an aftermarket option. I just hopped on the ol interwebz and ordered a ladies vibrator. Works like a charm on IMR4198. -
650 priming system
willfully armed replied to BARRYJ's topic in Dillon Precision Reloading Equipment
I clipped a coil off the spring, and went with a thrust bearing setup on the shell plate bolt that greatly reduced powder loss. -

You forgot annealing and checking for runout! -
Case Sticking to powder funnel?

Unpopular opinion here, but I am baffled by all the effort people spend to clean 9mm brass. IF I clean it, its just long enough to knock range schmutz off. Maybe 30 minutes per batch. Most times it just goes straight into a bucket and gets a few sprays of One Shot when it hits the feeder hopper. If you haven't tried One Shot loading straight walled pistol cases, youre missing out. A can lasts forever, and greatly reduces effort on ram strokes. -
300 blackout - Magnum or Standard primers?

There is no benefit to using magnum primers in 300blk. -
Jamming to Metallica just before a match
willfully armed replied to nikdanja's topic in Mental Conditioning
Pantera Cemetery Gates, Avenged Sevenfold Buried Alive, Sound City From Can to Can't. That, and positive affirmation in my inner dialogue. Before a match, id just repeat that they're here to lose, im here to win. Its an amazing tool. -
My shooting is ok but I cant remember sht when beep goes beep

As has been said, and ill echo, visualization is the key to success. Ive found it yields far more results than walking a stage multiple times. I also got to the point where after the stage, I couldn't recall what I did during the stage. -
I traded out the Glock for a DW PM9 as my game gun. Only thing I've done to it is the Techwell and code Z g10 grips. Also had to.strip it down to remove the over zealous application of loctite on the over travel screw. While I was in there, I polished the trigger bow. I can't feel a difference...trigger pull is a clean 3.75#, and reset is a twitch. I'd like to switch to a 1mm FO front sight. One malfunction since I've had it, a FTE on round one, that's it. So, I feel it's extremely reliable. Should I attempt to improve anything?
-
I've personally fondled the P10. The trigger was amazing for a poly gun, with a respectable reset. I am a glock shooter, and the ergos and grip angle/poa felt 100% natural. Breakdown is basically Glock. But, inside it's a completely different animal.

Dan Wesson PM9 reviews/reliability
willfully armed replied to polymerfeelsweirdman's topic in 1911-style Pistols
.45 version of the pm9 is called the pm7. In stock. I got my PM9 last week. Got it home, cleaned out the factory oil, applied moly wheel bearing grease to the rails, took it to the range. First round, FTE. The remaining 149 I sent through it with zero problems. I ran my 147gr IDPA load... 860-870 fps, 3.3 gr Titegroup. Muzzle is a little flippy with that one, so I may try puff loaded 124s. I also sent some factory 115gr, Ranger RA9TA 127+p+, my 124+p fireballs, and some other odd crap I had. After adjusting the rear site, it was dropping 1" groups at 15 yards in the X. -
1911 SS grip/magwell and IDPA rig suggestions?
willfully armed replied to willfully armed's topic in 1911-style Pistols
I ran glocks for game guns for the last ten years, the PM9 will be my ESP gun, and I'll be getting into a SP01 for USPSA and SSP. -
I finally added another 1911 to the safe after selling my last one (kimber stainless target II 10mm), over 5 years ago. Dan Wesson PM9 followed me home from work earlier this week and I need it ready to go for IDPA ESP and USPSA. Been eyeing the Techwell setup in G10, but the prices are around $160 and I'm tight 1) which model Techwell is IDPA ESP legal 2) are there any option at a lower price that are as good as the Techwell setup? Also, I Ran bladetech black ice with my g34 and was very happy with fit and function, as well as the bladetech single mag carriers. I've only ever had bladetech game rigs. Am I missing anything of a better value? I think Tripps are the gold standard for 9mm SS mags, so that's a no brainier. I plan on going to a 1mm fiver front, Dawson likely. I was never really got into 1911s til now, so I'm just 1911 dumb, not overall dumb

I run a threaded 9mm setup in my g23. Runs just as good as my 19.

Testing Accuracy at 15 yards and not 25?
willfully armed replied to Richc2048's topic in Tips for Improvement
Conversations of ammo accuracy in handguns at IDPA distances have always amused me. I am certainly not castigating anyone by saying that... Its just that truly every load I've shot out to 25 yards has seemed (for me at least) to be as accurate as the other. 115,124,147,158 grain bullets. Unique, red dot, Titegroup, power pistol, sr4756... I haven't ever noticed an appreciable difference. YMMV. -
D650 casefeed worn parts.
willfully armed replied to willfully armed's topic in Dillon Precision Reloading Equipment
Because I was itching to keep loading, I went ahead and drill all the way through shortly after my initial post. A 1/4x2" with washers. Does a pretty good job of locking it in. The slide was most definitely installed correctly. Absolutely zero groove has been worn into the slide, yet there just wasn't anymore adjustment left. I dremeled a little more relief into the bottom of the slide to allow for a tad more adjustment.
