  1. Gen 2's have the new backstrap. (its very stippled). They are supposed to have a different sear and some times a better barrel. They were manufactured after December 12th, 2012. Hope this helps!
  2. Hmmm - maybe S&W are still using the old block on some guns (Pros?). I admit I have only seen the new style sear block on a regular full-size M&P. Yes, sorry mine is a pro. Thanks for mentioning this.
  3. Weird, mine was manufactured in January 2013 and it looks like the one on the right.
  4. Also, make sure your trigger spring is in the middle groove. When I switched my trigger spring out, I was watching Randy of Apex and he said if the spring was not in the middle, it could cause a dead trigger.
  5. I went ahead and ordered a new stainless steel guide rode and a 13lb recoil spring. I will see how I like that.
  6. So I shot my first qualifier tonight (3rd match overall), it went pretty well (I thought). 12 rounds, I shot 13. Then someone said that I shot too many shots and that's what the Virginia Count means. This is why you should ask questions. Don't lose 20 points for a dumb mistake. (lost another 10 when my shot hit the target)
  7. I appreciate all these recommendations! I have also heard about the new sear being so much better than the last one.
  8. This is from the Apex website: This product works in Smith & Wesson M&P 9mm, .357 Sig and .40 S&W models only that DO NOT INCLUDE a thumb safety, Magazine Disconnect or the Internal Locking System. **PRODUCT WILL NOT WORK IN VTAC VARIANT AND SOME OF THE NEWEST M&P MODELS DUE TO CHANGE IN SEAR HOUSING BLOCK CONFIGURATION. The Apex Reset Assist Mechanism (Patent Pending) is a drop in part engineered to improve tactile trigger reset of your M&P pistol. Along with improving the felt reset, the Apex RAM also serves as a failsafe in the unlikely event of a Trigger Return Spring breakage; keeping the trigger bar properly positioned under the sear and allowing the user to manually manipulate the trigger forward between shots.
  9. They had some last week, but you have to act fast!
  10. I will probably do that and an apex extractor. I actually have the usb for my m&p .40c, just need to install it without screwing up my sight line.
  11. Yes!! This happened in my last match. I felt like an idiot but had to ask, "Where is the other paper target?" It was basically hidden on the wall (We shoot indoors) with two feet between a tarp and the wall. The paper target was at the very end of it. I disagree with you there. The time to feel like an idiot isn't BEFORE you shoot and ask where the other target is. The idiot time is after you shoot the COF and have to ask "what do you mean i missed a target?!" Well, I've only been to two matches, the first one I walked right past two targets, guess I was too nervous or had a serious brain fart. And I even went through the walkthrough. I have improved at counting targets and shooting, still a long ways to go though.

  13. I have an fairly new M&P Pro 5 inch in 9mm that I purchased early last month. I have been to two matches( USPSA Production) with it already and love the gun. My question is what upgrades should I purchase? I am happy with the sights. I know apex makes some great parts (and I already have them in my carry gun so I know how to install them) Since I am shooting it for production, I cannot change out the trigger, add a magwell, etc. It is 2nd generation so the apex RAM will not work with the sear. Thanks for all your opinions.
  14. It's funny. I have an M&P Pro 9mm, M&P .40c, and a M&P22......but my summer carry gun is also a Beretta Nano. I recommend Talon grips for some extra stickiness. I have a Remora holster for iwb and use a Uncle Mikes (Desantis are also very good) pocket holster in my cargo shorts.
  15. I'm hoping to get to that point! I shot my first match last week. On the first stage, I walked by two targets and then on one target I only shot it once. I felt like an idiot afterwards. I was just in too much of a hurry. The second stage, I made sure I engaged all targets and did much better. Practice makes perfect!
  16. I would do it yourself or I have a few from A2stippling. http://www.a2stippling.com/ He does a great job!
  17. I didn't notice it while shooting my first match last night, but today I was dry-firing and there are some pretty deep serrations there. Guess I would rather have deep than thin?
  18. My mags from CDNN shipped, so they are good to go.
  19. I am trying to get 6. We will see. I will post too if/when they ship.
  20. Well, I noticed less travel with the carry kit. I then put the reset assist mechanism in for a more noticeable click. The kit SHOULD help with pre-travel, but then again mine M&P is a few years old. From the Apex website: Drop-in replacements for factory components enhance reliability and optimize the performance of your M&P for different applications. Installing the Competition Kit yields a smooth, consistent, trigger pull of slightly less than 3 lbs., with shorter over-travel and faster reset than a factory-stock M&P. Retain the factory sear spring to get a slightly heavier 3½ lb. pull. Designed for IDPA, USPSA, Steel Challenge, 3-gun, and similar types of action shooting competition. Not for duty, carry, or self-defense applications. Duty/Carry Kit delivers a smooth, consistent 5½ lb. trigger pull with less over-travel and shorter reset. Improves performance of your pistol while maintaining its safety features for daily carry. Retain the factory sear spring to get a slightly lighter 5 lb. pull. Both kits engineered for a drop-in fit, though gunsmith installation is recommended.
  21. Yep! I have the apex carry kit, then I added the r.a.m.
  22. I went ahead and cancelled my order. Might never get them, but for $40 a pop, hopefully can find cheaper
