Yet another vote for the CWA conversion.  The Marvel Unit One is a poor choice if you are not running standard velocity ammo.  Yes, they now sell recoil springs up to 10 lbs., but that is not enough.  The super light operating portion of the slide moves violently and will end up messing your firing control group.  Even using the heavy recoil spring, fewer than 400 rounds of Eley Force caused my 1911 to start doubling.  Also, unless you modify the extractor, it will not extract a loaded round reliably.

The Nelson is not as good as the Marvel, and it works with fewer pistols.  That is mostly do to variations in the ejector on pistols.  Nelson's mags are problematic.  Nelson says they are designed for a milspec mag catch height.  Since most quality pistols use a higher catch, that can be problematic.  No amount of tinkering or modifying could get those mags to work in either of my custom 1911 with the Nelson Conversion.

Ciener is a no go in my book.

I have used the CWA Conversion for three complete seasons, including Winter shooting, and it has never let me down.  It is super accurate.  The only thing you have to do to keep it running is keep the chamber clean.  I used to run a bore snake through it after four stages, just in case.  Once I started using the old bullseye trick of putting some oil on the top round of every mag, I no longer has to worry about the chamber.  It would go the entire eight stage match and practice for the next week without a hiccup.   GSG mags work great.  So do the Advantage arms after modification.

What 1911 lower did you use with the CWA conversion?

Anyone know where I can get a firing pin for a Dan Wesson? it's 2.292 inchs long and the tip measures .062", and yes, I've already looked on the DW site.

I would call DW.  I needed a DW 1911 part a couple of years ago that wasn't on their website.  I called and they did my order by phone.

Quite a few rounds into the new JP-5 and everyone that has shot it has been pretty shocked. The rifle takes 9mm to well tuned gas gun levels of recoil. I'm very, very excited for this PCC season 😈😈

How are your splits with the JP-5 compared to the GMR-15?

I'm hoping someone will have available measurements for  a 1911 main spring for a build I'm undertaking.

    Overall length:

    Overall length cap included:

    Inside diameter:

    Outside diameter:

    Coil count:

Not concerned about wire diameter at this time.

    Thanks all!

    Here's some info from a 1911 book:

I can give you my experience with Rimz. I bought a set of 10 when I got my 929. I don't use them for USPSA type stuff but they work fine for SC standing reloads. I use mine almost exclusively for practice mainly because I load all my moons for whatever match I am shooting. Don't like to load during a match. (Because I am usually ROing etc)

    Now to their effectiveness:

I shot 25K rounds in the 929 my 1st calendar year. Probably about 23K to 24K in practice. The Rimz were still going strong. I also used them some for dry fire too.

The 2nd year after about 5K a couple of them were worn out so they would drop a round now and then. I kept using the remainder till I was down to about 5 and then ordered 10 more. I sent a note to the owner telling him how well they work. I shot about 20K through then the 2nd year. (Plus dry fire)

The kicker was that the guy sent me 15!

If anybody wants a free trial, PM me and I will send you 1 to put in your rotation and check it out.

Probably one of the BEST things I have bought for this gun game!

Why don't you use them for USPSA?

  6. You may want to browse the Steel Challenge sub-forum.  There's a thread on the TX22.  The most common RFPO is probably some version of a Ruger Mark#.  You also see Buckmarks, S&W, 1911 conversions.  I use a Ruger 22/45 for that division but you'll want to use whatever you already have, or whatever you shoot best.  Try other steel shooters' guns if possible before spending money.

For RFRO it's most commonly a modified Ruger 10/22.

For folks wanting a quick clean on that port, Bore Tech Eliminator soaking (go crazy, it's cheap) followed by brake cleaner is about as fast as you can clean it. If you let it go too long and can't get any solvent on the crown the unofficial ways of cleaning are to chip it off or to use a chamber brush (nylon) in a drill and come in from the front.

Bore Tech also has a Carbon Remover product.  Have you tried that stuff?

Given your constraints, buy a stock ruger 10/22 and slap a red dot on it and start shooting.  You can upgrade it over time.  The only stock part on my RFRO is the original ruger receiver at this point.   Life is short.  Get in the game, have fun and shoot.    Add a Kidd trigger if you want.  At that point you are 80% of the way and should have no trouble  shooting with the best of them.

The ruger black plastic stock is within 1oz of my modshot chassis despite several hundred dollars of my go fast bling .

Agree 100% with this route.  Buy a new or used 10/22, buy five or six 10 round mags and start competing in RFRO.

Does anyone have any experience with this?  I have several thousand rounds of 9mm loaded, and I'd love to  use them for Steel Challenge.  Converting my 627 would save my SPP for my 38 Short Colt loads for USPSA ( I've been shooting major to save inventory).  The .356 rounds I've fired from .898 trimmed 38 special cases appear to be accurate enough for minute of steel.   Any experiences or thoughts?

I bought a 2nd cylinder for my S&W TRR8 and had TK do the cylinder machining.  Looks like he gets $350 for the service now.  I had mine done back in 2014.  I can swap from 38/357 to 9mm just by switching cylinders.

I still can't wrap my head around the cavalier use of nitriding in this industry.  There is absolutely NO WAY IN HELL I would let anyone send any gun part of mine to be nitrided after it left the factory.

Mask around the cut, put screws in the threaded holes, degrease everything exposed with acetone, then hit it with any quality rust-resistant paint from your local hardware store.  Do it in 3-4 very thin coats, waiting until the previous coat is no longer shiny before hitting it with the next.

There is absolutely NO WAY IN HELL I would let anyone send any gun part of mine to be nitrided after it left the factory.  Why not?  (Obviously I'm not an expert in metal finishes.)

Almost at 30 pounds in less than 2 1/2 months just by following a strict low carb, high fat diet. I need to get faster for next season and this diet is for real. Once I get down to 190ish I’m gonna start hitting sprints and other stuff to get my movement in and out of positions better.

I finally got on board when 2 of the guys who i shoot and train with did it and lost some serious weight.

Give us an idea of what you ARE eating and drinking since carbs are in so many things.

A reload is also often helpful if you have a malfunction.   If you have a jam or issue especially on the last string...  The time is a throwaway, but to ensure your gun and confidence functions for the next stage it is best to put a new mag in and finish the course of fire.

BY THE WAY, I always bring 6 mags to the line  ( outer limits 5 ) so that if I have a sheet show on a jam or get a reshoot from the RO, I'm prepared.

100% correct.  Don't just take the 30 second hit when you have a gun problem ... reload & finish the string to make sure your guns works for the next string.

The main thing you can do to get the lightest good rebound is to radius and polish the 2 mating corners where the rebound slide pushes the hammer when it goes forward. One corner is on the hammer, one on the rebound slide. Once they both have a generous radius and are polished, oil them. You can then use the lightest rebound spring that you like the way it works. I would get the Wolff springs in 11 to 14 pounds. Most people will end up with a 12 or 13, some will use the 11.

Warren - Can you post a picture of the generous radius done correctly?
