  1. Does anyone think that the limitation of a 10 round magazine may be a disadvantage considering that USPSA eliminated the 10+1 limitation on a loaded start capacity? Now tube guys can run XRails in all matches and Saigas can have 12 to 20 round mags. Is a 12 round mag in the works?
  2. I'd settle for a pair of coupled 10 rounders and several 5 rounders!!!!! WHERE????? The problem is that 5 round mag changes will make you slower than a tube gun fed by tecloaders. IMO, the goal is to load more than 8 in one mag change (whereas the guy running tecloaders has to grab two loaders to reload 8... I was able to do this in 3- 4 seconds with my m1). What are guys doing for mags in competition?
  3. Looks like a great platform. The primary reason I hesitated on giving this platform a try was mag availability. Maybe the situation has changed, but when I called I was told I would be limited to one 10 rounder or potentially two if I wanted a coupled mag. For me thats not nearly enough to shoot any match. I bring 4 twelve rounders on my R&R to most matches. What is everyone doing to cover 20-40 round stages? When mags become available, this looks to be a great platform.
  4. Im using a Storm iM3300 and put the mags and accessories in a separate checked bag. Most airlines only allow 11lbs of ammo, so you're going to have to ship your ammo ahead separately anyways.
  5. i had a 27" M1 which allowed the barrel to be the same length as the extension that allowed for a 10+1 capacity. Keep in mind that many have told me that longer Benelli's with XRails may not with the lighter loads. I used that setup for 2 months and switched to an R&R Saiga.
  6. Yes. The "trick" is to be very random and go over areas that you have already stopped.
  7. I did the stippling on an M1 and M2 that I just sold. The pictures give you an idea, but it (IMO) looks like what Salient does to theirs I didn't have to sand or smooth the existing grip area. The only area(s) where I had to do something "special" was on my M1 stock where I wanted to "extend" the stippling on the stock all the way around the grip area. I used the flat side of the soldering iron to smooth the transition between the untextured and textured areas and then used the tip to create a new boundary. The result looked 100% factory (again IMO).
  8. Does anyone here have experience with Both? the goal is to fit the soft case with a Saiga, AR, and Open Pistol into one soft case and fit the full soft case into a Storm iM3300 or Pelican 1750 for air travel to the large matches. I also hear that Hardigg (Storm/Pelican) makes a "Fieldpak" soft case that is designed for the iM3300 Storm Case. My question is how well do you feel that the weapons are protected? The second part is that the Brownells case looks like it will be more useful at the match. Any opinions? Anyone with experience with the Fieldpak?
  9. I would do the Crums lifter. Its not a "must have" but its definitely a nice to have to keep the benelli lifter from taking off a finger nail if you decide to single feed a slug, or top off the magazine in the middle of a stage with a single shell (IMO loading one by hand still faster than using a tecloader)
  10. Im actually selling both my Benelli's (Benny M2 already sold) and my Open M1 which will be listed tonight to fund a R&R Saiga. We'll see if I made a mistake.
  11. I have a full blown 21" Benny Hill M2 that I'll be listing today for $2K complete with stippled grips, and 5 Briley Chokes. 4 months old and about 300 rounds down the tube. Im selling it because I decided to shoot open shortly after buying this shotgun and I doubt I'll ever go back to limited/tac optics. Some extras that are not normally available are that Benny did a "custom" bolt design when he lightened the bolt (will have pictures later) and the Barrel was bent by Benny to hit POA/POI with slugs. Nothing else to do. Its turnkey and ready to go. EDIT- SHOTGUN IS NOW SPF before it was even listed.
  12. Im 90% there on placing an order on a Firebird Akdal 1919. Ive seen some videos on their site but does anyone have a production version in their hand that they are wiling to either post a picture of or email a picture? Also, Ive heard magazine availability is an issue. Can anyone confirm this? How has reliability been in "real world" competition conditions?
  13. I have been told by some (This is second hand info as well so take it or leave it) that the sure cycle systems don't really help. I have been told by the guys at XRail that they use a low recoil spring in Benelli's with Xrails that may not cycle with the additional weight of the extra shot and Xrail system.
  14. Ballistic FTE. I left my dope card at home forthw 2009 Snipshide Bash. Used my muzzle velocity and ballistic FTE forth whole match. Wasnt pefect but it got me a top half finish.
  15. I just got my DP in tonight and got done grinding bolts on the mount for a good fit. My question is whether any of you are using any mounting plates for your deltapoints? Are you mounting it directly to the mount? Seems to work fine......but am concerned that I may be taking some shortcut.....

    c-more RTS

Where is the on/off switch? Im trying to picture if there will be switch access issues if its mounted at a 45% offset to my swaro
  17. Beyond just thinking about ballistics, wind drift, etc, it forces you to focus on good fundamentals in shooting. If you haven't built a good position, you won't be able to spot your impacts with your optic as the rifle recoils. If you tend to slap your trigger, your "1/2" MOA AR will likely miss. Speed is still part of the game, but its now just coupled with precision.
  18. I don't know about that. I have a Benny Hill Benelli M2 with a lightened bolt that will run any load I've put in it so far. I recently got a 27" M1 S90 for my open gun. I found that It wouldn't cycle the Fiocci light recoil slugs (my M2 from Benny Hill cycled these fine). Being that the two shotguns have the same bolt, I put the bolt from the M2 in the M1 and now it cycles the slugs fine. The M1 bolt is now on its way to Benny to be lightened. From a physics perspective this seems to make perfect sense. F=MA ....reduce the mass, force is a constant, then you have increased acceleration and no cycling problems with light loads.
  19. I ran my comp and barrel in my sonic cleaner using the hornady solution for HOURS with "so-so" results. I do know that when you add vinegar to the solution, it works better, but am concerned about galling so I've stayed away from that.
  20. Long range targets just introduces more sophistication into the marksmanship aspect of multi-gun. Ive shot "long range tactical" matches for years with MOA targets out to 600+ yards. Also don't forget that NRA high power shooters have been shooting targets at 200, 300, and 600 yards with iron sights unsupported (no monopods off of magazines) in off hand, seated, and prone positions for decades. Shooting isn't just about squeezing a round off and "hosing" the target with futility. Read the wind, understand the conditions and know your ballistics. Its just maturing the sport.
  21. That would be a great change regardless of whether or not you have the Xrail. My 21" M2 with the mag tube extension BARELY fits in the case (its poking at the zipper), and my 27" hangs outside. You would have the perfect case if it was 54" long. Id buy 2.
  22. Just talked to Benny Hill about running an X Rail on my Benelli. He suspected that I would be on the "fringe" of it not cycling reliably, especially with my ported barrel. He suggested that I transition to a gas operated gun ilke a Mossberg or a Remington Versa Max if my intention was to use an XRail then its like starting all over. Starting from scratch, I'd have to consider ditching the tube platform and buying a R&R Saiga or a Firebird Akdal. For now, Im leaving well enough alone.
  23. Well it runs like a sewing machine with the ported 27" barrel, lightened bolt, and arredondo chute. Thats a whole lot different than 3 lbs of mass cantilevered off the end. Someone here has got to know
  24. I have a ported 27" Benelli M1 with a lightened bolt for my open gun. Currently I am running the Arredondo speed chute and tecloaders. I have been considering adding an Xrail, but have heard that this causes problems with the Benelli's. Is this truly an issue across the board? Also, would adding a Sure Cycle mainspring help.
