  1. I know there is a 12 page thread going on describing the merits of the Mossberg 930 and I read every page. From what I have gathered, the main merits are the less expensive platform, its US made, and it has most of the performance characteristics that most people are looking for. I have also read that many still prefer the grip of the M2, and it seems that some think the M2 is softer shooting. Cost aside, I am looking for feedback on which platform members here have a preference for (based on experience with reliablility, accuracy, shot pattern, weight/balance, fit/finish etc). I want to buy once cry once.
  2. How many here have seen Salient shotguns in action/person? Their work is beautiful. My concerns with them are that they 1) dont accept credit cards, and 2) need payment upfront. When a merchant wants everything up front, I get skittish. Just have heard too many horror stories of smaller shops going under with other people's cash. With a CC at least you have recourse.
  3. Dammit, Im just going to go order one. I know Im going to do it anyways.
  4. That is a great idea. If it boils down to an 18" barrel that is the primary driver for the change, I'll definitely go that route. For a comp, I am currently using a surefire brake on my 16" and find it pretty effective. I wouldnt be opposed to putting a different brake on if it was noticeably more effective. The surefire seems to work well and allows me to quickly attach a supressor for hog hunting.
  5. What are the optimal gunsmiths that can build "the best" M2? Im not trying to start a "ford vs chevy vs dodge" thread, but trying to find a list of the "few" guys who have this market covered. I poked around in Salient's website. Who else?
  6. I am 90% sure that I am going to be placing an order for a new JP rifle for this game. I am pretty new to the multi gun community, but have been shooting tactical long range for years. I am currently utilzing a LMT MPR 16" piston rifle with an Elcan 1/4x scope. The rifle is pretty much OEM LMT except for the Geissle trigger. I find the rifle to be relatively accurate, lightweight and extremely reliable. That being said, I can also see the advantage of the side charging handle, JP's handguard, and a longer 18" SS barrel. My question to this group is, is it really worth another $3K ? To qualify that, I am wondering if I am just for a different handgaurd, nicer machining, and a side charging handle. I ultimately want to have the best equipment, and will spend the money if needed, but would rather not if all I am gaining is a side charging handle. Thoughts?
  7. Im about to place an order for a rifle build with JP. So far I have selected a JP SCR-11 with an 18" light contour barrel and extended handguard. The optic that I will be using is an Elcan. I know this is subjective, but I wanted this group's advice on buttstock selection. I come from a tactical long range background so I find the carbine stages to be my "comfort zone" in 3 gun competition. That bein said, I am looking for a stock that doesnt have an excessive LOP as I am shorter in stature, but isnt so light that the balance/weight distribution of the weapon is off. I have been using this same optic on a LMT MPR piston rifle with the LMT Sompod stock. Do you find the Magpul PRS to be too heavy and bulky for this game? Any suggestions? Do any of you just stick with the ACE Stock that is specified with zero cost?
  8. What about birdshot? What do you use?
  9. I just ordered the CC Titanium Charging handle, but dont have it in my hands yet. Most think it will be a great replacement handle. Time will tell. I had a GG&G that I bought second hand, but it bent during cycling.
  10. Thanks for the replies. Even though I would like to win, but I am so new to the game, my personal abilities are going to limit me more than the equipment. That being said, I really dont subscribe to the thought that "go with what you have and upgrade when youre skills improve". I would rather not be limited by "substandard" equipment and have my skills grow into the equipment. I suppose my question is more to qualify what would remain suboptimal about the M4 if I do the above mods (and any other mods that others may recommend). If at the end of the day, other platforms are still far superior, I'll have a "game gun"....I just want to know what I'm sacrificing. What Im reading so far is: 1) Weight (wont be able to fix that) 2) Shell Catch Lever (I suppose a gunsmith can alter this easily). 3) Polish inside of tubes hmmm, still cant decide...
  11. Ive searched on this topic pretty extensively and have come to the conclusion that you CAN use an M4 for multigun, but it may be suboptimal. Rather than run out and get a M2 or an FN SLP MK1 (which I still MAY do), I also wanted to see if anyone has modified their M4 succesfully for this game. This is what Im thinking: -Carrier Comp Titanium Mag tube, will give me a 7+1 capacity -Nordic Magazine Extension for Supernova which will give me either an 8+1 or 9+1 capacity depending on how long of an extension I want -Briley Chokes (or other mfg) -Mesa stock to shorten LOP -HiViz fiberoptic front sight -GG&G oversized release button Is there a flaw in my thinking? I like the idea of having my competition rig, being the same as a home defense weapon. I also dont mind buying another weapon. I am not so concerned about cost so I am also not opposed to buying another platform and having it modified further. Thoughts?
