  1. Maybe you should propose a rule change that would allow derringers in the revolver class with super major scoring. Set those up with moon clips and require people to where cowboy hats and I'm in!
  2. Hey Hop, would I get extra points if I reloaded after every two rounds. Just curious.
  3. All of this puts things in perspective for me. Its going to be hard for me to make an opinion that hasn't already been stated. I read an article last year on revolver shooter Ricardo Lopez. I believe he lives in South America where he doesn't have the ability to shoot a lot. At any rate, the article was written on an interview he had given. During the interview he said he lives and works on his family farm, and still dryfires 4 hours a day, at a minimum. I think for me its not so much the title of grandmaster that I admire. I've seen some guys make grandmaster shooting classifiers over and over. For me, I admire those people who work as hard as they do, day in and day out. Always chasing the the goal or obstacle that most people believe they can't ever obtain. This brings me to my opinion. There are people who admire the results, and there are people who enjoy the journey to get there. You don't practice that much, everyday of your life, without enjoying it.
  4. I have been shooting at an indoor range in our area for almost 20 years now. The club that has the indoor range has an indoor league that shoots everyweek September through May every year. There are others at this club that have been shooting there every week throughout the season for longer then I have. The venitlation system pulls air from the outside, and blows it out of a vent at the end of the range. They have de-leading soap in the bathrooms, and use rubber push "mops" for sweeping up the brass. As far as I know nobody has had a problem in regards to lead issues. We get on guys if they smoke, eat or drink in the range. We also tell people not to pick the brass up off the floor with there hands, we use the push broom and a brass bucket which is then put directly in the brass bags. I heard a short time ago that the rubber push mops are better to use then regular brooms, they keep the lead dust/debris on the floor rather then flicking up into the air.
  5. I don't know if it would work but can you keep the same bullet weight but just lower the powder amount. I shoot the same load for my 4 inch 625 that I do with my 5 inch 625. For USPSA I shoot 230 grain Bayou bullets with 3.9 grains of Clays, which puts me around 172 power factor. I get faster velocities out of my 4 inch then I do my 5 inch. I know others here have more knowledge then I do about this topic, but if you could adjust the powder to bring you around 150 power factor from 165 power factor then you wouldn't have to change much.
  6. FYI my app was sent in the mail yesterday Jake. You can throw another revo shooter in the mix.
  7. I do understand Mikes logic on bringing in the speedloaders. After thinking about it I've come to the realization that at this point its apples to oranges. At least in regards to the question I had about the 6 shot minor across the board vs. the speedloaders shooting minor and being scored major. I'm not sure how everyone else feels, but I do like it. I think with all the ideas presented on this topic over several threads and posts it goes a long way in reaching a common ground for a lot of people.
  8. You have my interest with that one. Which leads me to a question. With that idea you have six shot major, and would allow 6 shots with speedloaders to shoot minor but be scored major. If someone goes out and buys a 686 or the like and gets it cut for moonclips, how would that play into that scenario? Don't get me wrong, my ears perked up when I read that and I'm not trying to throw rocks in the pond. What would be the advantage or disadvantage to just making the division 6 shot minor across the board vs.bringing in speedloaders, letting them shoot, but be scored major? In my opinion both ideas keep the division from being divided and show promise of increasing our numbers, but would one idea vs. the other make it easier for all six shooters to shoot? Or, does both ideas basically achieve the same result?
  9. At what point do some people stop analyzing and just start shooting?
  10. My wife has never shot a match in her life. I'll drag her along and make her shoot it, that will get us to 116. Heck, if I include a few in laws it might push us over!
  11. Your right. But we like to multi-task when discussing things.
  12. Awesome, thanks for the info. Plan on ordering the book shortly.
  13. What were the participation numbers for ESR vs. SSR? I'm going to guess that SSR had quite a few more than ESR. Let's compare that to the Florida State USPSA match, conveniently already held this year as well: 7. Seven participants out of 218 entries, or 3.4 percent, vs. 10% for the IDPA match. Triple the participation. So before I see the breakdown, I'm going to remind everyone that several times the idea was put forth to recognize a speedloader division in USPSA rather than allow 8-shots in order to increase participation. Nobody from the "we have to make changes to increase participation" seems to discuss speedloaders, while there were a number of other folks that expressed interest. I think between IDPA, ICORE, and our own shooters the choice is clear: Forget 8-shots, make minor-6-shots attractive. In terms of creating participation for the division I agree with that, bringing in 6 shot minor. Others, including myself, have already made this argument. If we want to TRY something to bring in more shooters why not try, again, pulling from the larger pool of people. Its been argued that with the 625's and the like we currently have a one gun division, which, if it changes to bringing in 8 shots, I can't help but feel that the same thing would happen. But by having more revolver dedicated matches, and offering different divisions within the match like you said, might make this happen, and go a long way in making everyone happier. We're all going to have our opinions, but if we are going to make a change that could dramatically change the division, why not try to make the change to include options that meets the needs and wants of more people.
  14. When you say the sides of the ratchet, do you mean at the ends or in the grooves where I believe the hand meets the ratchet? I've sent two of my revolvers back to smith and have always been interested in trying to learn to fit the timing on my own. I think the extractor assembly in Brownells was $20.00, I'm willing to give it a try for that price. At least once or twice anyways, if it means I can figure out how to do it.
  15. Thanks for the info. The star does move left and right while set in place just slightly since the one tip broke off, but so far the cylinder timing is fine and it still reloads fine. I'll keep running it as is, but I can't make any promises on going easy while dryfiring, I tend to be a bull in a china shop, so to speak.
  16. I broke the tip off of one of the star legs on my 625 from dryfiring. I have two questions to ask. Number one, looking at my Brownells catalog I believe the replacement part is the extractor assembly. I believe, since it is one piece, that this would include the star, the ratchet and the extractor rod. Second, since cylinders usually have to be fitted as a result of the ratchet and hand, after buying this part will it have to be fitted by a gunsmith. I'm pretty sure I've answered my own question, but wanted to check first and also make sure I ordered the right part.
  17. I'm a firm believer to each his own. But for me, I think the 6 shots in the courses of fire of 8 is it what makes it fun. I like the challenge. However, a friend, and I can't remember who else has already posted the idea, has said that if they could change the target arrays to 6 rounds instead of 8, I do think that would help at least for the revolver debate.
  18. I still remember the first time hearing about the shooting sports. Then I looked into it and read articles and watched videos. It amazed me to see a video of people shooting at IDPA or USPSA matches. I was star struck at the skill level of some of those guys and gals. It peaked my interest enough to actually talk to a friend at a local gun store who told me more about it, and then, convinced me to go and shoot the match. I'm not afraid to admit it, but when I went and shot a match for the first time, I was nervous as hell. To this day, 20 years later, it was one of the best experiences I ever had. I couldn't imagine what that experience would have been like showing up and being told I was breaking the rules and was cheating. To the 45 to 46 folks who wrote posts about promoting the shooting sports, and creating an experience for a new shooter that they will have a positive memory of for the rest of there life, +1 and . To the small few who don't feel the same, go take your ball and play somewhere else!
  19. Thanks for the help. I'm relieved because I thought you guys were going to tell me to buy new grips, thats alot of money to spend!
  20. Since watching Matt Griffin's 1.37 reload video I have been trying to beat it. I'm not even close to doing it. Try as I might, I can't even get past 3 seconds on the par time. I have attempted to post a video, its my first attempt and hopefully it plays for you guys. Please watch it, I am open for suggestions.
  21. I noticed the same thing with my moonclips and for me, and not necessarily everyone else, the powder helped. I'm jealous of you and others who have met him. I'm sad to say I'm to young to have gotten the chance. Learned about him a long time ago when I first started learning from veterans and my heroes of the day. He was way ahead of his time as law enforcement officers and shooters go, him and others like him are why I started shooting revolver.
  22. jason237m, have you had a problem using your big butt grips on your 686 in IDPA? I have seen some discussions on it, but didn't know if anyone had said anything to you about using them at the matches you may have shot. I would like to use mine in ESR on my 625.
  23. I would say I'll let everyone else judge me about the tall, skinny and good looking part. To be honest though, that would be a little weird, and I'm not ready for the answer....I know, I'll just ask my wife!
