Using flags does wonders. If you don't want to buy a set, flagman's tape on a stick is better than nothing. Remember the wind closer to you has more effect than wind at the target, etc. I was at a match once where the wind was switching in three or four different directions between gun and targets, and then went almost straight up at target distance. Unusual, to say the least.

Hi. Thanks much for the info. One of my friends is pretty handy with gun-smithing, and maybe we can do some of these things to my Glock 17 (which I’m using ‘til I get the 34) as well as his own Glock. I printed it out, and he’ll be eating with us tomorrow night and I’ll give it to him and see what we can come up with. Sounds like a lot of fun to learn some of this stuff. I’m still not completely sure where I went wrong with the question. My intention was NOT to gripe about a wait for a gun. I waited 19 months for my pride and joy, a custom built-from-the-ground-up Ruger Blackhawk, and have been in long gunsmith lines before with Pythons, Colt SAA’s from Cylinder and Slide, and rifle work from Turnbull and others including smiths for Benchrest rifles, etc, and they were all worth the wait.. So it’s no surprise to me to have a long wait to have a gun worked on. I’m a little bumfuzzled, though. I read over my post again, and don’t see where I was being discourteous to anyone, nor was being discourteous my intent. Two shooters had eaten at my restaurant a few hours before, and we were simply talking about having custom work done to our pistols. They knew I’d been waiting a while, and we simply wanted to know the general time requirements for the various things you can have done to the Glock. My deepest apologies to whoever the question as stated offended anyone. However, after being advised that my post was discourteous, both the threads were locked so I couldn’t respond. So here is my apology if it is warranted (if anyone sees it). If I do venture any posts in the future I’ll keep them out of the gunsmith arena. Hi. A couple of Glock-owning shooting buddies and I need some advice on enhancing a Glock, please. I hope it’s ok if I ask in more than one forum title. The first of December ‘03, I shipped my Glock 34 to Custom Glock Racing to have the following work done for shooting in IDPA (copied from the CGR site): Bo-Mar precision Adjustable Sights Buried in Slide CGR F-1 Trigger Fitted Bar-Sto Barrel Barrel Kote ISMI Recoil Spring THE Extended Tungsten Guiderod (Production Only) Par-Kote Finish (Choice of Colors) Beveled and Blended Magwell Mirror Polished Feedramp All Parts Precision Fit for Optimal Performance The guys want to have some of this work done by someone, but they don’t want to wait this long to get their guns back (and I’m thinking about going ahead and buying another one while I wait for CGR to finish with mine). It’s already been 31 weeks since I sent off my G34, and not wanting this long of a wait, the questions involve finding out which of the above “enhancements” take the longest to perform and which ones we might do without and still get improved performance from the gun without this long of a wait. In other words, they want to know which, and how many, of these items can be done on Glocks and still have them back in three or four months at the most. Or, which ones would be necessary to leave off in the interest of saving time. Any other suggestions you might have would be greatly appreciated, though I’m rapidly getting out of the mood myself. Hi. Ever consider teaching in public schools? There is a course called "Law and Public Safety". My understanding of it is as follows, which may or may not be correct: 1) Three years of law enforcement experience--your degree in CJ might be an acceptable substitute. 2) Hold an instructor's certificate. Obtainable in a few weeks at a Police Academy. 3) Pass the "Praxis I", a test of basic math, reading, writing. I think you have a year to take the test after employment. Not sure if it would all apply in your area, but it may be something to look at if you're interested in this sort of thing. Luck. Ray

Hi. Was thinking of trying a non-captured rod, and wondered if there is a "trick" to installing them. Like some kind of tool or something. I've just never seen it done.

Hi. I'm using a 1 1/2" orange dot in the middle of the target to try and narrow the sight picture while trying to call the shot, which is a lot slower than using the entire center circle on an IDPA target. Am I practicing to be more accurate or is it practicing to make myself a slow shooter? Thanks. Ray

Brings back memories, Eric. When I was 16 (I'm 59 now), I had just soloed a 172 that had to be hand propped. Not a problem 'til I got lost diving on clouds listening to the radio. The plane had the old tack-type rpm counter, so you could climb slow to ceiling and rip off the owner with the glide slope. Got lost, had to prop myself into and off of a SHORT duster strip. Full flaps going in, like a freakin' nose dive, scary coming back up, too. A couple of months later a friend "let" me prop his fully aerobatic Smith miniplane. Now, I was in great shape--football, weights, etc. But that high-compression sucker was wearing me out. Decided I'd try one more pull (after a couple of dozen). Too tired. I slipped and fell on my face under the front of the plane. Yep, the xxx thing started. Me, I just layed there waiting to get chopped up by the prop revving over my back. The owner thought he'd killed me. Jumped out white as a ghost and almost passed out when he saw I was still alive. He sat on the tarmac and couldn't get up for half an hour. Never did prop another plane. Owner sells plane. That's the same summer I bought the D-Class wood racing runabout--13'long, 72 mph. You ride on your knees in it a foot from the engine. Guess instead of griping about my eyes all the time I should be gratefull they still have a head to reside in.

In the classifier there are three stages with fourteen strings. As an example, in stock service pistol there are listed five levels, from Master to Novice, with times of (98.82 or less-master) to (210.01 or more-novice). ie: Stage one, string one, is draw and fire 2 shots to body and 1 to head. And so on. Has anyone ever tried to break down each string to get a "norm" or "mean" for each level in arriving at the totals? Such as: string one-novice-3.20sec string one-marksman-2.8sec string one-master-1.2sec etc. etc. etc. through each string Just thought it would be interesting and informative. Then again maybe I think too much.

Hi. I am about to begin loading for the 9mm. Loading for a Glock, and have pretty much decided on 147G and Vihtavouri 320. Question: I have seen posts concerning the use/non-use of Federal Primers and also use of small rifle primers. Most seem to go to Winchester sp's it seems. I have on hand two cases of Federal small rifle primers I was using for PPC, and one case of magnum small pistol primers. If you will, I'd like your opinion as to their use in the 9mm. Not a problem ordering Win SP if I should. Also, have any of you ever compared the Hornady bullets to Zero or other "normally" used bullets? I've thought about trying them. The Hornady spec states: 9mm/147Gr FMJ-RN ENC (2500 bulk pk. $157.02). I'd appreciate your opinion a lot, thanks much.
