  1. "When the student is ready, the teacher will appear." Heard that years ago. The older I get, the more it means.
  2. Just a suggestion, but just for kicks you might check out the specs on a 6.5X.284. Don't know about the recoil, but the folks I've talked to using it for a long range target rifle say it's the cat's meow.
  3. Thank you. How's that?
  4. Holsters certainly come with a large number of parts these days. Ray S. must not be his real name. And he doesn't live in Arkansas.
  5. A married couple is driving along a highway doing a steady forty miles per hour. The wife is behind the wheel. Her husband suddenly looks across at her and speaks in a clear voice. "Darling," he says. "I know we've been married for twenty years, but I want a divorce." The wife says nothing, keeps looking at the road ahead but slowly increases her speed to 45 mph. The husband speaks again. "I don't want you to try and talk me out of it," he says, "because I've been having an affair with your best friend, and she's a far better lover than you are." Again the wife stays quiet, but grips the steering wheel more tightly and slowly increases the speed to 55. He pushes his luck. "I want the house," he says insistently. Up to 60. "I want the car, too," he continues. 65 mph. "And," he says, "I'll have the bank accounts, all the credit cards and the boat." The car slowly starts veering towards a massive concrete bridge. This makes him a wee bit nervous, so he asks her: "Isn't there anything you want?" The wife at last replies - in a quiet and controlled voice. "No, I've got everything I need." she says. "Oh, really?" he enquires, "so what have you got?" Just before they slam into the wall at 65 mph, the wife turns to him and smiles. "The airbag."

    Toilet Paper

I hate it when someone's put the toilet paper roll on upside down. Justa thought, thazzall.
  7. Wrong gun, I know. While dry-firing last night, the trigger mechanixm locked (froze) up in the rearward position. The Cylinder is hard to open and the trigger and hammer are inoperative. I can "pry" the trigger forward, but only did it once and nothing happened. The gun has had a trigger and action job, and I was wondering if I did something wrong. It kinda feels like something's stuck behind something. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
  8. http://members.aye.net/~bspen/math.html or http://www.beartoothbullets.com/rescources/ taylor knockout formula is getting lots of attention the last few years. Hi. Try this link. Ray
  9. Hi. When you folks shoot group from a rest, do you rest your gun or your wrists on the bag? If using a pistol rest, what part of the gun do you have touching the rest--barrel, frame, etc. if any. Thanks much.
  10. "It's the silence between the notes that make the music". Don't remember who said it. "For as this appalling ocean surrounds the verdant land, so in the soul of man there lies one insular Tahiti. Full of peace and joy, but encompassed by all the horrors of a half-known life." Herman Mellville in "Moby Dick"
  11. For the last few years I've been loading 45 Colt and 357/38's on a Denver Instrument XL410-D scale that I really do like. Response is really fast and it's very accurate. Makes it easier to weigh a lot of PPC cases, etc. For pistols I use it with a Harrel's Schutzen pistol measure, which I think makes for a good combo.
  12. 1) "Whoever wants to see a fish sees the water before he sees the fish." And, 2) "A fish doesn't see the water." OK, got to be a Zen thing, so here goes nothing. 1) If I want to see a fish, I must first find/see the water--likewise, if I want to find enlightenment, I must first see my mind. 2) Lacking a soul, or the ability to reason or think, the fish lives out its life in an "other-ated state, only aware of external forces and stimuli, reacting rather than acting, forever oblivious to fact that the water is what sustains him and is most important to him. Likewise, to find/attain enlightenment I must become aware of my soul (mind?) at which time I will have removed myself from the hyper-vigilent existance and the "other-ation" of external desires and fears. P.s. Spelling not right, but also insemis mamiento.
  13. Hey, thanks for helping. I shot my first auto pistol when I was 12 years old. Shot my second in my early fifties. Took that long for the meat to grow back on the top of my thumb. Still can't help but think about it when I shoot. Guess I'm just a wuss. Maybe therapy would help.
  14. Hi. Thanks much. I'm getting a new gun and couldn't figure out what to put on it. Never tried the auto pistol thing, so I know nothing at all about it. Thanks again for your reply. Ray
  15. Hi. Sorry for the double post (gunsmithing) but I think I should ask here. Thanks for your patience. I've read a few posts on the legal/illegal status of a fiber optic front sight. I can see the difference between standard (iron-type) sights and the "scope" kind (red dot, cross-hair, etc.), as the sighting plane is completely different. But with a front sight/rear notch sight setup, it seems that no matter what materials they are, the desired sight picture is gonna be the same. re: centering the front in the rear. Seems like the use of a fiber optic front is of little advantage to one with good eyes, where the fiber optic might let old eyes at least see the sight, and be able to shoot reasonably well in spite of bad eyes. Still don't know if they're allowed in IDPA, though. Just wondering. Ray S.
  16. Heinlein---Assimov. Kinda sound alike? Now I know why I never went to the moon.
  17. Dear Warpspeed; I agree.
  18. Two years ago I went in Best Buy. Bought around $400 worth of stuff, paying for it at the counter with my Amex card. The counter was about 15 feet from the front door. Took three or four steps toward the door and this uncouth, red-neck idiot jumped in front of me and loudly said, "LEMME SEE IN THAT BAG!!!!". Hell, I thought I was getting mugged. I said "are you nuts or just a weirdo?" I regret to admit things degraded from there. If I ever go back (which is doubtful) I'll handle it differently. I shall refuse to let him look in my bag, and proceed to leave. If he forcibly detains me, or sicks the law on me outside.....well, I always did have a desire to own a big electronics chain. The law, according to an attorney I talked to, does NOT permit them to do this. It's bluff. And if they are unlucky enough to have hired an idiot who actually grabs you, they are in a heap of trouble. Check the state laws on unlawful detention. When the cops see your receipt, they will know they have been snookered into harassing you. First go to your lawyer, then to the nearest Maybach dealership. And take your wife and any kids old enough to drive. Afterwards, have your chauffeur drive you and your wife to the airport and start picking your palette at the FalconJet plant. Then again, I may be wrong. But I don't think so.

  22. For Lynn Jones: What kind of doctor did he go to? Even I can handle 3 weeks. Thanks for answering. Ray
  23. Hi, thanks for answering, folks. I think I'm gonna head for the doc and get him to fix it. Got all winter to recuperate if I have to. I haven't bowled in 25 years, but now that you mention it, it is very similar to what I remember getting on a too-large ball, trying to grip it in the web. In fact that's why I bought my own. I started working out on weights about a month ago after 40 years of championship couch-potato training. I think maybe the bars caused more damage than the Glock. Anyway, to the doctor I go. Then I'm gonna increase my meditation time to try and remember what "moderation" means. Thanks again very much. Ray
  24. Have any of you folks ever had this problem? If so, do you know what causes it and how to fix it? I have incurred a "knot" that hurts like H. It is: At the base of the right thumb, towards the inside close to the "web" between the thumb and index finger. It wiggles. And smarts mightily when its moved around. Fits precisely on the sharpest edge of a Glock 17 grip. Any help/relief would certainly be appreciated. Ray
