  1. That was my thinking too - just wanted to see if anyone had first hand experience..
  2. So a few years back I bought a ton (literally a ton) of brass from a private indoor range. Took a long time and I sorted by caliber etc.. Fast forward.. Started reloading some of the 9mm 1x brass. I have been encountering a bunch of Berdan primed brass. When using a non motorized Dillon 1050 this is not an issue as I can feel it on the down stroke and stop. I am now using a Mark7 (which is awesome btw) and it works so well it is de-primming and adding a new center flash hole. I have been able to find a dozen or so that have gone thru to be loaded ammunition. This week I loaded a few thousand rounds for practice and I'm sure there are many that I missed. I really don't feel like looking at each head stamp. I assume the new flash hole is large enough but want to see if anyone here loaded a Berdan/Boxer type primed brass? Here's a few pictures.
  3. Time to start looking for a PCC. Here's an FYI article: http://www.tactical-life.com/firearms/top-7-9mm-carbines/#9mmc-gwjj15-keltec
  4. I'll weigh in my 2 cents.. If there is an event that has multiple matches and side matches. I feel that each match or side match should be handled individually. As Tom E. wrote above: "My feelings are you should only be DQed from the "match" you commited the infraction in. If you're shooting Open and Production (as an example), two "matches" in and "event", if you commit a DQ infraction in Open you are only DQed in Open. Punishment fitting the crime. You commited no infraction in Production. " I know other shooting venues have handled it that way - I have been to a ProAm match where a competitor DQ'd in the Open match and was allowed to shoot the Limited match the following day. As far as Event Disqualifications - I feel that "Unsportsmanlike Conduct" (USPSA 10.6) and "Prohibited Substances" (USPSA 10.7) should get one DQ'd from the entire event.
  5. I really want to shoot this match again - but as many have noted the communication (lack of) is making me reconsider..
  6. ZackJones, Is there an SCSA Advisory Committee at USPSA or is Troy the only person at USPSA that makes the Rule changes and reviews recommendations? It would be great to see active Experienced Steel Challenge shooters weigh in on the future and current rules.
  7. Bingo. The rulebook already addresses sweeping yourself and breaking the 180. True
  8. Why? At our local match we have had a few shooters use these types of holsters and the ROs expressed concern to me as the acting MD. Thumb break retention strap issue - when the competitor would re-holster they would continually sweep their unsupported hand when pulling back the strap. On occasion the strap would interfere with their draw. Appendix/IWB Hold - ROs at our local match expressed concern with competitor breaking 180 Depending on which target they would setup on to draw and re-holster.
  9. I disagree - it should be clarified or at least discussed with USPSA.
  10. The matches have been set up properly - It's just the Rimfire aiming point varies from club to club - top of a cone, top of flag/sign all vary in height and rarely close to 2'. Rules state "approximately 10' away and 2' high"
  11. Hornetx40, Agreed this is suppose to be fun.. However I have seen many shooters starting well above the aiming point in a low ready hold - especially when they have to guess at 2'. Aiming at a spot on the ground is easier and more consistent. Establishing an aiming point for Rimfire 2 feet in the air is and has been a bad idea (in my opinion). Having an actual aiming spot on the ground would be a hell of a lot easier when laying out for a match too. I have been a bunch of matches (local and Major) where the point of aim varies - I can't recall any that any match I have been to has actually had a flag/aiming point 2' in the air.
  12. I believe the topic was about rules not Classification..
  13. Here's a few items I'd like clarification on and yes are my opinion.. Rimfire Start - I think the start position should be a spot/marker on the ground or at the base of an object at X distance from the firing line not a spot 2 feet in the air. Target position - Clarification - Are the targets are parallel to the firing line or angled towards the shooting box. Outer Limits - penalty for shooting from the center box if disabled or injured. This issue has come up at our range and USPSA said it was up to the MD. I feel a standard time should be established. Showdown - my opinion is that this should be two or three strings from one box and two or three from the other. Not 2, 2 and 1. I feel this stage will run smoother and be more consistent. I have been to matches where different clubs run it different ways. Appendix/IWB Holsters - I feel Appendix hold should not be allowed. I think IWB Holsters should be discussed. Holster with Thumb break/retention straps - I feel these should not be allowed in Steel Challenge Shooting.

  15. From the Old Fort Gun Club website: http://www.oldfortgunclub.com/wp-content/uploads/2015-NSSF-RIMFIRE-WORLD-CHAMPIONSHIP-MATCH-RESULTS.pdf
  16. I've heard folks that have disassemble their high cap mags for travel. Keeping parts separate and then reassemble for match and disassemble again...
  17. Back in the late 90s I had a beautiful Daystate PCP rifle that I used for Field Target shooting - Non sprig was the way to go. I've sold my tanks and regulators. For my current needs I want to keep it simple.
  18. I sold my RWS 54 air rifle to a friend several years back so he could take care of a Squirrel problem. I am now thinking it would be nice to get an air rifle setup again. I did a quick search and there are way too many to choose from. Looking for advice.. I don't want gas/CO2. Looking for a Spring/lever type. .177 since I have a pile of pellets left. I'll mount a scope. Used for plinking and small pest control. Any rifles you'd recommend? Thanks in advance..
  19. Link and info was provided via USPSA Down Range email. Match fee is less than in past years in 2010 it was $540 - here's a link to that 2010 app. http://steelchallenge.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/2010-Competitor-Application-Form-FINAL-4-8-10.pdf
  20. I don't want to thread drift or take away from Jim's match - but that's not correct. For example The PSA Shootout gets 600+ competitors each year for their knock down "steel" match. Having a World Shoot or Major match in California is not appealing to a lot of shooters outside of California. Just like having a Major match in Massachusetts or New York is not a good idea due to their state laws. With that said having a major match in a gun friendly state with proper planning makes the most sense. California is a big State and has a lot of shooters - chances are at a big match they will draw a good number of competitors from within the state. I really enjoy shooting steel and will travel to States like California for a match after I research their firearm laws. My reluctance to commit to this years match has to do with the piss poor planning and lack of updates. Keeping my fingers crossed that this match will be a success.
  21. Trying to decide if this should go on my match calendar... Any updates?
  22. I shot the match in Utah.. The ROs did make you shoot 2 from 1box and 2 from the other and then choose final box. I recall shooters complaining because they (and me) usually shoot three from one box and two from the last box.
