  1. I play a lot of golf and walk the coarse. I've been using a Klean Kanteen http://www.kleankanteen.com/ for years now. Its a stainless bottle ceramic coated on the outside. I like it because I love the way water tastes coming out of it, if I like the way it tastes... I will drink more! Can't get enough when it's hot out. Since my $20 purchase at REI there are plenty to choose from in the $5 range now. The major difference between a golf coarse and shooting range for me is renewable clean water. I have to bring all my water to shooting sports. 1 liter of water isn't going to cut it. Thats when I freeze the nalgeen's. The real BPA issue is heating the plastic. Cold water is fine. leaving bottles to get warm in the car can be an issue and heating liquids like brewing coffee can release the toxins. Nalgeen and many others have addressed the issue. REI will even exchange your old nalgeen's for BPA free ones. I usually filter water into mine or mix protein shakes. Always cold water, so I don't worry about it.
  2. Shooting has always been a passion of mine, In the last year I have decided to start shooting competitions to improve my skills and have fun doing something I love. (I'm sure I'm in good company here!) With my personality or the current economy or whatever new shinny thing sparks my interest I am constantly battling for time. Just getting a workout in to try and maintain my current weight is sometimes too much to ask, not to mention trying to do some dry fire exorcises or draws or whatever. (Just showing up and shooting middle of the pack isn't going to cut it. I want to be the best I can or see what I am capable of) I was thinking about some of the other workouts out there that combine martial arts and cardio, Is there anything already out there that combines competitive shooting skills and a decent workout? I'm not talking about jogging around the neighborhood with my gear strapped on and drawing and dry-firing on every dog and baby stroller I come across! Anything specific you guys do to train specifically for shooting sports? Or is it as simple as stay in shape, have a good mind set and train the muscle memory separately.
  3. It's good to use them for rimfire applications, the firing pin can actually contact the breach face. I've been told you should use snapcaps on anything not designed to be dry fired, but as others have said, many years and no pin replacements. Now that I think about it, I've actually never heard of a broken firing pin from dry fire first hand... Always a guy that knows of a guy...
  4. I went with a PACT mostly because it was available locally. Works great and does all I need it too. I do have to wear it on the front of my belt for practicing rimfire. Considered the CED but opted for something with a clip. CED requires arm band or additional purchase. (that I can't get locally...) Not a big deal, but worth mentioning. Foam ear bud fits in the PACT speaker hole too. Muffles nicely for using indoors for practice.
  5. If its in the basement, fire rating has to be a priority. (or hefty insurance rider!) Sounds like you made a similar conclusion. I am forced to save paperwork/Contracts for 5 years and considered a dual purpose safe, valuables, documents and toys! I've heard an expression that may ring true with your situation. You spent the $$ on quality and you will only cry once...
  6. I've purchased a few used guns from my favorite local shop. I've had similar issues and my shop has repaired at no charge. I had a mini 30 that when fired would release the trigger assembly and allow it to fall to the ground. (Spring tension latch, no tool field strip) Very difficult to replicate without firing. When I brought it up to their gun smith, he was happy to repair for me and offered to install a muzzle break for any inconvenience. Had a Walther PPKs that had an ever so slightly warped hammer strut. It would cause the hammer to frame lock when firing 92 grain rounds.(90 fired just fine) Same thing, brought it in, explained the issue and repaired and polished it for me, then polished up the slide frame rails showing me that they had become a little sharp and could scar the frame. Just a couple examples of not so obvious issues and why I remain a customer and a very loyal one at that. Talk to the shop, give them the chance to do the right thing, if not, repair and enjoy the great revolver! Besides... after all I have been hearing about gen 4 glocks, its not just used guns that are having issues. (nothing against glocks per-say. Just off the top of my head example.)
  7. Thanks for the replies, curious to see how they hold up after a season or 2 and what mossy does with new models.
  8. Welcome! Like you I am excited to learn from other competitors and this forum. Seems like "the place to be" for a wealth of great knowledge.

  10. Kimber SIS is also series 70 and has an option with rail. Most of the recommended come with night sites though. Why no night sites?
  11. I just had the same issue this weekend, went out with the intent of throwing a 200 yard zero on my rifle and ended up troubleshooting flyers. Thanks for the post, I'm checking my gas system and looking for anything out of the ordinary on mine now. For what its worth, I had bulk ammo I started with and then moved to hand-loads that were giving sub MOA out of another rifle.
  12. I'm lefty as well, I use a Wilson just because it was available locally. I've always installed them myself. Just a little fitting, and I like to know its not over stoned. Any local smith should be able to handle for you easily.
  13. well said. I would send in for a full trigger job, I even had it in my original budget, but after a little polish mine was fine. Still may later to get a little crisper break but as for now I love my RI!
  14. I shoot 10rnd wilson mags. After breakin they are reliable. I guess I just don't understand why JHP? I've been running black bullets and just got some plated for super cheap.
  15. I should mention I have done some significant work to mine to make it smooth and crisp. Out of the box it is just ok. FWW I also shoot a kimber SIS in 45. 3 times the price but I love shooting both of them.
  16. I also picked up a Rock Island Tactical in 9mm. Through some VZ grips on, a little finger nail polish on the front sight (may get FO Later), hand lap slide, polished trigger parts and added 5 Wilson 10 rnd mags. I'll add a Mag-well later and I couldn't be happier. I have converted many non believers with my RI. Nothing against the STI. I would love to own one. My goal was budget and this thing delivered.
  17. Throw my .02 in $400 among friends seems fair. I've seen nice ones go here for around $600.
  18. Just mark the screws where they need to be cut, take them off, put a nut on the screw tighten down past cut point, lop off with cut off bit and remove the nut. The nut will straighten out the threads. Use a little lock-tite and it shouldn't move. I like the rubber too, that should help it create a seal.
  19. I was on my way to purchase a 550 and a friend gave me a lee 1000 to use. I was new to loading and thought I would give it a try before I spent the $$ on a Dillon. The only thing about the lee I don't like is the primer tray. I load pistol rounds on it, and its great at it. I plan to get a dillon later, but for now I'm actually pretty content on my free lee. I would get the 4 die version though. I would like to use a factory crimp die. Lee stuff is cheap, made cheap but it works.
  20. We have a local forum a lot of us are members on. Its a great way to stay in touch or make new friends, then on match day setup tear down and have fun at the comp with your new friends.
  21. yes it does! we go out every weekend. The few competitions I have done now have taught me more than years of working on my own could have.
  22. I've just stared doing bill drills lately and notice you really have to follow the front site. Maybe thats what you are referring to?
  23. I've really been on the fence about a platform to start building on. I am between the rem 1100 and mossy 930. one comment I keep coming across is the peening on the bolt lug and in part of the receiver after only 500-750 rounds. Has this been addressed? or even a real issue? I was ready to "pull the trigger" on a 930 then got cold feat.
