Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I have a AA standard conversion on a Kimber with a C&S ignition group that I use to practice IDPA and a Nighthawk/Nelson I use for shooting steel. I really like both. However, I must have too much time on my hands because now I am thinking about a Nelson conversion with an Weaver rail and optical sight that I would use either in my Nighthawk or Kimber frame. My intended use would be Steel Challenge as well as just having fun at the range. Another reason is my quest for continuous improvement which is getting tougher each year. Read 72 y.o. eyes. A good friend and expert pistol shot tells me that shooting a handgun with optics will actually help when shooting with open sights. This leaves me with two questions. 1. Is it worth it to get the threaded barrel? and 2. Tube type (Ultradot Matchdot II) or holographic sight (Ultradot Pan AV)? I intend to have Larry Nelson supply the conversion and sight complete. Any wisdom you would like to share?
  2. I am surprised to not see much mention of the Advantage Arms Conversion. I have the standard conversion hosted more or less permanently on my Kimber Eclipse with a 18# main spring and a C&S ignition package. It is very accurate, fits perfectly in my 1911 holster, is totally reliable with CCI Mini-Mags, locks back just like my 45 acp 1911's, and the mags are $25 each. I did send it to Novak for a FO front sight. Mine has just about 10,000 rounds through it and other than cleaning it every 5-600 I have changed the recoil spring once. Having an AL slide the set up is lighter than my 45 acp 1911's but I have gotten to hardly notice the difference.
  3. Actually had a guy do that around here at a skeet range with I believe it was a 28ga. Use to use old hulls for snap caps. Went into the club hous dropped 2 "snap caps" into the gun and set them both off into the floor(actually pulled the trigger twice) Darwinism at its best.
  4. I am a shotgun shooter and always use them to let the hammers down. What about with nice 1911's like Kimber or Wilson?
