  1. I had planned on starting with stock mags after all the replies here. But I lucked into a purchase here, for tubes and grams internals. I just need base pads to have complete mags. I just don't understand the difference between the SNL pads and standard +1's... If the SNL's are 40 only is there a better option for 9 mm than the standard +1's?
  2. I found some tubes, springs, followed and spacers. Now I just need to select some base pads. I thought it was as easy as ordering the Dawson SNL pads but the description states "not for 9mm or 38 super". I was set on the Dawson's for easy removal and that's what's on my Glock. I went with STI tubes and grams guts, what are the right Dawson pads to get? Open to suggestions too, help a newb out please! Thanks for all the help already!
  3. Are you running the plastic spacer? That was the biggest thing I was weary of. I'll probably run them stock for a bit but coming from a glock that runs and runs, I'm just so fond of reliability...
  4. I have... and given the fact that tubes vs mags are only a few dollars different, my plan was to get stock mags with +1 extensions and then add the grams guts leaving the stock guts in the parts bag. at least run the SS spacers with the stock guts to start off with. If there is anything I have learned about this game is to not reinvent the wheel. If you guys have already blazed the trail why wouldn't I listen? The other thought is; If I'm spending the coin to get the gear why not spend it the right direct the first time? Reliability is what I'm after, good mags are a vital key to that recipe. Thanks for all the input guys. I do appreciate it.
  5. Thanks for that info! That confirms a lot of what I have been thinking as well. I want easy to clean mags, I want reliable. Tuning I am ok with doing or having done locally. I have a great shooting comunity here, just not a lot of choices for 9mm mags.
  6. One of the first pistol lessons I ever received hit some great points that may address that. The big focus was on grip, alignment and natrual point. Drawing the pistol and having your trigger finger down the side of the pistol "pointing" at your target, place the pad of your trigger finger on the trigger. Is your finger from first knuckle to second knuckle still pointing at the target? Short medium or long trigger will change how your finger "points" at the target. The goal should be to have trigger control and still have natrual point. I like a long trigger because my fingers are long and a medium or short trigger points my finger at the frame. Short fingers or small hands may find a medium or long trigger points their finger away from the frame too much.
  7. I've looked at those as well, and in my original post stated similar components as these, but Why are these the way to go? Do you have experience with them?
  8. I am having a 9mm STI Frame/Slide built by a local smith and have almost no local resources for components locally. Most items will need to be ordered including mags. The pistol is spec'ed and parts have been ordered, that part is going smoothly and as planned. My question is about mags. I have been reading threads about old SV tubes and STI tubes with Grams guts as well as new SV mags that just need to be tuned to fit but then a few guys saying that didn't work... My quandary is I can't just take my pistol to a shop and "test fit" mags and see what works and what doesn't. My goal is reliability. I'm currently shooting glock and love it for it's reliability. I'd rather lean to that side fo the fence over max capacity. (if I can have both... I'll take it, I just know better!) Looking at new STI tubes and Grams springs, followers and spacers as well as Dawson +1 pads, that will cost me about $110 each. Thats some cheese to throw down based on what I have been able to seek out on my own. What do you guys thing? Whats the best way to go? I have no problem spending the cash if it's the right combo. This is all new to me so I'm a bit overwhelmed. My understanding is that 38 super mags will work, just need the spacer. I'm not apposed to buying used mags, but would rather have a set that are all similar so that I can maintain them and eliminate troubleshooting issues down the road. I know the mag is the heart of the limited pistol and want to do it right. The intent for this pistol is Steel Challenge, 3 gun, Limited Minor. Thanks in advance!
  9. You guys have me nervous! My M&P pro should be here any day now and after threads like this, I hesitate to veer away from my Glock... How is 3-4" groups at 25 yards acceptable? Half of the advantage I have is being able to hit those far shots quickly to save the steps...
  10. Thats the spring and cap for your Sear disconector. Just those 3 parts under the sight. I think your are all good!
  11. I just completed that course and the info I was told about the "trigger revisions" was to enhance the tactile reset. I was also told the 9L is out of the lineup. They may still produce it, but only for contract purposes.
  12. Found that too. Glad I got the correct barrel ordered. Thanks for the reply. Lone wolf had the threaded barrels in stock and my local shop was making an order today, so I was in a rush to get it ordered. After learning of Appendix D2 I went ahead and ordered the correct length on back order. I do have mags, all good there!
  13. I use this pistol for limited, limited minor and 3 gun events. I'm sure I'm fine, just want to double check. I want to get a conversion barrel and thought about the lone wolf that has external threads. I should be fine as long as I don't install a comp right? Thanks
  14. I got to shoot a pro today side by side with my G34. The Pro had a 14lb recoil spring and an apex kit with Ram. It shot very smooth and the recoil note was subdued compared to my Glock. It really satiated my curiosity, I feel much better about running it right out the box for a while now.
  15. Thanks for the heads up, Certainly not one to forgo good advice. I have ran about 5k of them and a local shooter has been running his 9mm loads that way for years. I'll definitely keep an eye on it if I use them again.
  16. That guy is pushing 9mm to major... No wonder he has erosion. I have no signs at all in my other 2 pistols. If I decide to shoot 9 major some day, I will look into getting better primer seal.
  17. I buy my primers in bulk and sometimes I can get a great deal on CCI rifle primers. With both my 9mm 1911 and G34 I can run rifle primers without any issues. Anyone using them with success? I have noticed some are complaining of light strikes with less than the extra power striker spring. I currently have a good supply of pistol primers, just curious. Thanks.
  18. This is what I needed to hear... What I love about my glock is how reliable it is. I like to "tune" my pistols but reliability is paramount. I can run rifle primers in my glock without issue and will expect the same from the M&P. Thanks for the replies.
  19. Thanks for the reply's. My goal is to maintain reliability as is with my g34. Not looking to super tune anything, just want it to perform at my "tempo". Once I got my glock tuned it seemed like it would just jump to the next target as apposed to flipping or dipping. I do plan on shooting the stock recoil spring for a while, and I have heard other recommend the extra power striker spring. Looking forward to getting to know this platform. I am also curious to see how the recoil note will differ from my glock given the heavier slide. Gonna be a long 12 week wait!
  20. Hey all, I have a pro on the way, still a few weeks out but am excited to run it the moment it comes in! I currently shoot a G34 (9mm)and for my load am running a 12lb spring but feel like I could go even lighter. My question for the group is... Does anyone else run both a glock and M&P of similar configuration and how do the recoil springs compare? Like same = same recoil spring weight? I know the M&P's slide is considerably heavier, my assumption would be the M&P would need even lighter springs. I see most are happy with the 13lb spring but as before mentioned, my glock seems to need even lighter than the "norm". (stock spring still funtions) I've looked into the tuning kits, but feel like they would all be higher weight than I need... my current load is 124gr TMJ 4.5gr Unique making 137pf. Looking to run in production for what it's worth. Thanks in advance!
  21. If it is the sear dis-connector that is causing the lock up (which it can do) then you need to remove the striker assembly to give the slide room to clear the sear dis-connector. It's kind of a pain in the butt, but very do-able. Good luck!
  22. exactly what I wanted to know. Thanks gentelmen!
  23. Hey all, I have a 1911 9mm that is about 8k round count. I am using the Wilson 10 round mags and everything seems to run smooth and reliable. The concern I have is that if I strip the slide and seat a loaded mag in the frame the top round impacts the ejector. There's not really any more room in the mag to allow the round to drop into the mag so I end up impacting the ejector every time I preform a reload... The stock part lasted a while, just changed to a hardened ejector but I would like to give this part the greatest opportunity for success and longevity. My thoughts to address the issue, are: 1. Relieve the bottom side of the ejector to allow more room. 2. Create more space in the mag to allow the rounds to compress when reloads are preformed. 1. Concern there is shaping the part may lead to damage or shortened life, or change the angle of ejection. 2. Concern here is tampering with working mags may shorten life or reliability... Just thought I would check in with some shooters that have much higher round count than my self. Do I need to worry about it/ address it? Get used to changing these parts? Is that a reasonable life span for that part?
  24. Thats great news! Glad to hear they are owning up to it.
