Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. My wife has shot a 4.25"M&P for two years now and has run 147's the entire time. The gun is bone stock and they will out run her most of the time. I just picked up a 5" M&P 9 to shoot production and of the two times I have shot it I have been able to maintain a 2-2.5" group at 20 yards with WWB 115gr. I haven't tried anything else in it yet but I should have time to start working on a load for it in the next month or so. I guess what I am getting at is give them a try, worst thing that can happen is that your gun doesn't like them.
  2. Weekend matches are usually 6stages with one being a classifier, week night matches are always 3 stages with 1 being a classifier.
  3. I switched from limited to production recently and plan on staying here for a while. For a few reasons: Cost: the wife and I haven't been married very long and while we are doing pretty well for our age/stage of life it is nice to be able to pick up a stock gun, mags, and holster and be competitive. We are both shooting m&p's so we keep the same mags, parts kits, etc... for matches. Multigun: with 9mm being competitive in most multigun matches there wasn't as much Incrntive to stick with major pf, plus for multigun matches my 9mm with extended base pads hold more rounds than my .40 did Ammo: if I don't have time to load ammo or have it loaded I can stop and grab ammo about anywhere without looking for ammo that is loaded long. I know most of this could be argued but it is what helped me make the move to production and while I will probably switch back to limited at some point I'm happy in production for now
  4. I believe my upper started out as a 16" rogue hunter. I put a 15" Jp tube on it and a sjc comp. my only regret with it to this point is not getting the 18". It's a good choice
  5. If you don't mind my asking where did you order these springs? I am having a similar issue and would like to order some even if they turn out just to be back up
  6. glad to see you on here!! let's get your upper done so you can start shooting some 3 gun!!
  7. I either use clays, old bowling pins or used ipsc targets for slugs. The range I practice at doesnt allow metal targets of any kind so I am somewhat limited in reusable options.
  8. As the others have said, until your out of school shoot what you have, upgrade the trigger and barrel if you have the cash otherwise spend the money on practicing. For the first year I shot 3 gun I didn't even own an ar, I had to borrow from friends/family for matches. When I finally did get one I had a lot better idea of what I wanted.
  9. Phenomenal news!! This means I may yet be able to shoot a match over there
  10. alright, here's my take. I have been shooting for years but shot my first uspsa match last Augest. Since then I have been through two limited guns and am getting ready to start a third. My wife has been through two production guns and is considering taking the rig I just bought to try SS and shoot it instead of production. added we have been playing with the idea that she wants a limited gun and I have been thinking about giving open a shot at some point this year. What is the moral of all this you may ask? give it a try with production since you are already set up for it. Ask other people if you can try their rigs as just hopping into a new rig/division can get pricey. I am a big limited fan because they seem to vary from everything from a factory gun with extended mags to race guns costing upward of $6k. the bottom line is if you start with production you can always upgrade the gun through almost any other division from what I have seen by adding magwell, slide lightning, or optics. it's a bit harder to go the other way. just my 2 cents.
  11. I just picked one in hard chrome for my wife. it seems well made, and for the price I really don't think you can beat it. I have had several springfield and kimbers and several lower price 1911's such as the para ordinance gi expert which I think was around the same price. it's a good gun and you can always upgrade it.
  12. In the grand scheme of things after the 1911, tax stamp, can and threaded barrel that's not too bad. They are nice to shoot with a can, I am still working on my 1911 but I have shot a few with them and they pretty much rock
  13. I have been shooting 1.185 OAL .40 in the 10mm mags. I have nose dive issues if I try to put more than 18 in the mags when I am using once fired brass. When I am shooting virgin brass I have no issues whatsoever. I am getting ready to try a batch loaded to 1.20 this weekend to see how they do. either mag you choose just be sure to keep them clean, they get a bit finicky when they are dirty. hope that helps a bit
  14. this is the biggest difference I have noticed.
