  1. What bothers me most about the Glock design is that the "firing pin safety" does not reset when the slide cycles as it does on most guns like the Beretta, SIG, Browning HP. In the latter guns, the trigger must be fully released and repulled to again raise the FP safety plunger after the slide cycles out of battery. On the Glock, anytime the trigger bar is back to the rear, the slide comes forward and it is fully ready to fire. I can envision it would be VERY easy to make one go full auto by screwing with the sear face so that the sear caught the striker tab as the slide came forward with an "iffy" grab.... and as the slide continued forward and the force against the sear by the tab increased due to the striker spring loading up, the striker eventually slipped by the sear and fired the gun coming into battery. That is what makes me nervous about Glocks. Whenever I do anything to the trigger I always test fire with three rounds in the mag just to be sure.....
  2. That would make a great plot for a sitcom..... on cable (of course).
  3. Your climate is still not bad compared to some. Back in my days of building hardware for the military, they had specific temperature and humidity profiles we had to meet. The one called "HOT" was maybe 115F high, with relatively low humidity (sort of a desert profile). The one called "aggravated HOT" was highs of about 130F with humidity reaching maybe 80%. They said some parts of Africa and even the Middle east could hit that last profile. I don't know how a human could survive it.
  4. I would go further to say that some trigger mod combinations will not reset to engage the trigger safety even when racking the slide without riding the re-set or at least will not do it consistently. In playing around I have gotten this result and I have ran into someone actually using a glock with this type of trigger at the last match. Yep, if the striker spring is lightened too much or the trigger spring is too strong, the striker spring won't have quite enough pull to get the trigger back to the front far enough to allow the trigger safety lever to clear the frame. In those, you can usually see it if you rack the slide and let the trigger off very slowly and see if they stop short of safety reset.
  5. Yeah, but this "cold spell" has run two months down here and shows no sign of changing anytime soon.
  6. The average temp across the globe will rise slightly, but the effects on local climates is wild swings above and below normal. Right before Thanksgiving, we had weeks of summer weather (mid 70's) and I was outside frying a turkey in shortsleeves. A week later the temps had dropped 30 degrees and it has stayed there ever since.
  7. This morning at 8:30, I checked the temp outside and it was 35 degrees and raining..... this is in the bay Area in sunny california. Snow levels are dropping to about 500 feet. It's just sickening: the two week forecast is solid rain and temps about 20 degrees below normal. Our storms used to come in on the Pinapple Express (the jet stream across the Pacific) but now they all drop down from Alaska. rain used to mean mild temps. A typical winter day used to be overnight lows in the mid 40's, daytime highs in the low 60's with warm sunshine. We peobably had 100 days a year like that (pretty nice) For the last two months, we are seeing low 40's at 6PM and overnight lows in the low 30's and even some 20's. Most days are low 50's for highs. This just sucks and it is probably going to get worse. This global climate change sure screwed us over.
  8. Thanks. I thought maybe somebody had posted a pic about where the best places to grind metal were (and what to avoid). Yep, I did: http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?...&hl=striker Thank you, it seems my memory was accurate about seeing it a while back.

  10. I recall long while back somebody posted pics of how they lightened a standard Glock striker to get better striking energy. Anybody out there have expertise on this as to what to cut and what to cut it with?
  11. OK, then that means the heaters were turned off and the blowers were left on to maximize the freezing airflow.Either way, it's obvious it was done intentionally.
  12. Well, I think I only own about a dozen SW wheelguns (unless they have procreating again) but the innards on mine all work the same. And his conclusion is pretty accurate IMHO. As long as the rebound spring applies enough pressure on the trigger strut to hold the trigger in place, the hammer should hold and not drop off the SA shelf on the sear. But, that's just my opinion.
  13. And that sucker has a long lever hanging off it working against a very slight detent. Ask how many people who carry 1911's how many times they have looked down at their side and noticed thet safety was in the down position when it was supposed to be UP..... As long as the RO doesn't catch it or it doesn't go bang, I guess you got away with it. Wasn't me, I was referring to LE and personal carry incidents where the thumb safety accidentally got bumped into the OFF position while riding in the holster. I just wish I had a dollar for every one. They don't necessarily cause an ND, but given that it's the main safety it would scare me.

  15. No, absolutely not. I watched one of those fly out of a top shooters holster during the Nationals after it caught on a chair (2x4 lounge). That gun...in my eyes...tumbled through the air in slow motion. Watching it, there were all knds of things for it to bump into that could have bounced a 2lb trigger loose. And, the gallery was completely full of people. I am glad it was during the draw...where the thumb safety was till engaged. That gun had about 20 rounds of 40 in it to add to the weight. The shooter, quick and powerful, launched out of the chair. Lots of energy there. The upside is it probably would only fire once because the slide would short stroke and not load the next round... because nobody holding means the recoil has nothing to resist it and the gun would just spin.
  16. Won't you have to redesign the trigger system and implement a sear to add a thumb safety?
  17. Exactly How did a revolver get involved in this discussion since the hammer is down and a Glock striker is partially cocked. Revolvers first have to have the hammer cocked or beaten on severely in the case of hammer mounted firing pins. Almost all Glocks with lightened trigger pulls are using more sensitive primers to get 100% reliability so how many people have tested to see if releasing the striker from its at rest position will not set off a primer. I did, albeit not on purpose.... I fitted a new trigger bar which releases the striker about .025" farther forward than the old one did and I got about 50% light strike misfires with my RP striker spring. NO way on earth that thing would fire released from the forward position because it doesn't have enough spring force.
  18. Exactly How did a revolver get involved in this discussion since the hammer is down and a Glock striker is partially cocked. A Glock is nowhere near "cocked enough" in the trigger forward position for the4 striker to fire a primer. The point is, both guns will fire when the trigger is pulled (accidentally or on purpose) and many revos showing up for competition have pulls as light as many Glocks. So, they certainly are comparable from the standpoint of what separates them from going bang and not going bang.
  19. Funny.....considering the immense volume of cyberspace that has been utilized at this forum explaining the mechanics behind the 3.25# DA pull which is attained for competition revos using the new cut down hammer (which was also featured here) and lightened mainspring.I assume the range master would spot that and DQ him on sight?
  20. Different report, because the one I heard was when she said that the Packer bench was warm and the Giants wasn't. Based on the specs, those benches can keep scalding hot in sub-zero temps so if the bench was cold, it was not working.
  21. Au contrare.... http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=101486 http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=284850
  22. Was Harris the fool with the two foot long dreadlocks? If he had spent half as much time covering receivers as he did running his mouth, GB would have won. All I know is, Burress smoked him like a Christmas turkey and waxed him like a new Lexus.
  23. Well, if that was their strategy, it failed. I'm thinking earl was right about that karma thing....
  24. The on field reporter at the Packers game yesterday said she noticed something: the benches on the sidelines are hollow and have hot air pumped into them.... at least, they did on the Packers side of the field keeping their bench sitting players nice and warm. The reporter said she checked the bench on the Giants side and it was ice cold.....? Wonder if there was any follow-up coverage on that? Ah: apparrently, it is a Green bay tradition:
  25. You might want to start on Glucosomine and Chondroitin supplements just for joint health. That stuff worked a miracle for me, you can get it at Costco.
