Thoughts on S&W M&P AR15s - 3 Gun Back Up
Blue Jacket replied to Blue Jacket's topic in Rifle - Technical
Thanks I placed an order yesterday for the Smith. I figure one day I can get a trigger off a prize table or pick one up from a forum member. Thanks for the info -
Thoughts on S&W M&P AR15s - 3 Gun Back Up
Blue Jacket replied to Blue Jacket's topic in Rifle - Technical
I was wondering if it had a mil spec trigger. I guess questioned answered. I was also looking at a Colt, but it is more of a three gun rifle. Thanks for the feedback. Now all I need to do is decide between the two. -
Thoughts on S&W M&P AR15s - 3 Gun Back Up

I need to start this by saying i have a Stag 3G with Burris XTR I use for three gun which I really like. I was thinking of picking up a carbine to possibly use as a back up 3gun and informal shooting. So this wouldn't be my dedicated 3 gun. I was looking at the S&W M&P Tactical. It has a FF quad rail and 16 inch barrel. You don't hear much about smiths so I was just wondering what the consensus was. I can pick it up for about $900 and wasn't really looking to spend much more than that. Is there something else I should consider? Thanks

My Bladetech has a huge channel. I run a Dawson Adj rear and FO front on my 35. There is plenty of room. I would call them and ask though if you want to verify

I use an STI Eagle for both 3 gun and USPSA. I've never felt at a disadvantage. Come to think of it, I don't know how many three gun stages I have even had to reload my pistol, Not many, I get 20 reloadable in my mags by the way..
-
Not to hijack this thread. But is the .22 a Smith and Wesson. If so how did you fit the hand guard and where did it come from? Thanks
-
Anither Dawson with an adjustable rear. I prefer the .1 width front. It's thinner and at least for me is quicker sight acquisition

I ended up with an bushing barrel Eagle and Tungsten guide rod. Picked it up used from another Forum member. I have been very happy with it. No comparison to the Glock I had been using. I personally always preferred the look of the short dust cover. As others have said, I don't think you could go wrong either way. If I were having one built I would probably go bull barrel and short dust cover.

Doc thanks. I have a hand trimmer I used last time. I use it for more than 223, but I vowed not to hand trim 1500 pieces if brass ever again. That's why I was looking for something more automated. I know a lot of people that use the Dillon. However little crow is only about $70 so I thought I would ask about it.
-
I'd love to see shot at $25 a bag. Last I looked it was $45-50. I can't reload 12 ga for what I can by federal for (about $5.50 a box)
-
Related discussion do I bite the bullet and buy the Dillion trimmer. I only load probably 1k a year or would the little crow work as well. And I know it wouldn't be as quick. Thanks

Back in stock. Thanks Rob, got some this time

Can't use XM-193 on MGM targets?
Blue Jacket replied to RAZZ's topic in Multi-gun Gear & Accessories
I don't think XM-193 attracts a magnet I've shot it at a bunch of matches. You're right XP855 can't be shot at steel. I'd be interested to hear what others say as well. -
Darn. Too late sold out already

I'm right handed and beer can my AR mag when reloading so bullets forward. Mag pouch is on my left side behind my hip

My thoughts on the Pro/Am. I shot AM this year, had a great time and this year ran much smoother than last even with the Thunderstorm. 1) I would prefer not to shoot Thurs-Sun. As others indicated that's an extra day of hotel and vacation. However, I wouldn't mind finishing up on Sunday assuming I would be on the road by 2:00 ish 2) Have you considered going to a half day format. Shoot 1/2 day Friday and 1/2 Saturday? Have AM and PM groups like FNH. That would allow more time to hit side matches and do other things in the area. 3) I think the longest rifle shot we had was 200 yds. I wouldn't mind 1 or 2 300-350 yard shots. I am not a good LR shooter, but had a blast shooting the JP side match. 4) Have one stage with a couple of slug targets 5) I liked the fact that you gave options for shooting the stage. Let the shooter decide if they wanted to use a rifle or pistol to engage a target. 6) On the prize table since it is random draw division shouldn't matter. I don't think you need a table for Tac optics and open. Just put everone in the same bucket and draw. Also, for the division winners I would give them an award for winning, but I don't think they should walk the prize table first. I would put them in the random draw like everyone else to select a prize.

Thanks for the responses. You verified what I thought. Resize, trim and load them up. Of course before that I have to decap and swage the primer pocket since some of the brass is range pick up.
-
Thanks just ordered some Hornady.

I don't load a ton of rifle and was curious if you can trim before resizing. I have always resized then trimmed, but I am looking at getting either a Dillon power trimmer or a little crow. I know the Dillion resizes and cuts so no issue. However, on the little crow it just trims. If I purchased a little crow I would like to Tumble the brass, trim it then load in my 550. Would this be a problem? Little crow is much less cost that's why I'm wondering. Thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks

Figures, since I have a non MXT extension, could I use the existing Tube Nut I have, or did that change to? It appears to be the same from Nordics website. Hope I can just order a MXT tube and cap and use my existing barrel nut and clamp.
-
Thanks Jessie. Exactly what I needed. Now does anyone know if the the new mxt tubes and the old tube have the same endcap threads?
-
Where can you get a +2 cap. I didn't see one on Nordics website
