  4. I had this experience just this weekend... My first stage I put together ever and I blew it when i shot it lol! ok so I am not setting up stages anymore
  5. great shooting man! love that stage looks like a blast to shoot. I shot an STI executive and the thing that scares me now about moving from my trusted g17 is 2700 Bucks I am fixing to spend on the STI lol! Mat

  7. OK! Well first post. My name is Mat Price, I have been shooting precision rifle since I was a kid various form silhouette, F class ect… I had never owned a hand gun until about 3 months ago. I come from a long family line of LE and the only Pistol shooting I ever did was with my family and was never very good at it, in fact I have never shot open sights on anything before about 3 months ago. I was introduced to USPSA by a friend and I was addicted that day. I am 35 and love the aspect of the athletic part of the sport. I will say this NOTHING that I have found yet transfers from the long range rifle game to this one. Its like learning to crawl again. So I went out bought the most inexpensive rig I could, being that I wasn’t sure this was a game I wanted to play for any length of time and started working with a few local guys… With a glock 17 in hand stock sights and a mat price trigger job I was off to our local range. First 20 shots @ 10 yards never hit the target… moved in @ 5 yards got a few on the paper and was really frustrated. Fast forward to 85 days later working with my local shooters.. @ the grand opening of the new indoor range I am a member of and help out at Blake miguez ( a local shooter to us) gives me 3 pointers. Stop dipping my head, make a more stable base, and put more break in my weak hand. So yesterday made the 90 day mark. How have I improved? Well my glock now totes target sights and still rocking the mat price trigger job and it works really well btw LOL! So I said to myself “ SELF today we are going to do something” special break through plateau . That being, needing to gain more speed out of the holster and follow up accuracy. So I pull up to our outdoor range and one of our “better” local shooters happens to be at the range with a buddy doing a lesson. Yeah Max Michel is one of our local shooters… Great now I have to perform in front of this guy lol. Well I went and hid on furthest part of the range and decided today was going to be my fastest most accurate bill drill. I fired a couple of warm up strings at bowling pins and plates. Then had my partner grab the timer. Best time ever @ 10 yards all alpha shots 3.5 seconds. Yesterday after tons of practice drawing my new best time 10 yards all alpha 6 shots 2.20 flat. With .15 splits. Needless to say I was happy! My draw is still slow first shot 1.38 but these are the things I need to work on. I thought about and started kind of beating myself up and getting frustrated again. Until my buddy pulled out my first target from 90 days ago with no hits on it. After that session I was able to go talk to max for a few min with something to brag about lol! I watched him teach his guy and run drills and even learned more yesterday. A great day at the range thanks Max for the help. I am not sure what I want to work on today I think its going to be multiple target drills I have to be at the indoor range all day so maybe when its slow I can setup some no shoots and work that. I will post a video today so you guys can help me out as well. I am lucky to live on the mississipi gulf coast and new orleans area there are some GREAT shooters here. Mat
  8. Not in my experience, as long as you can control what ammo goes into the gun. I change mine often... it has bitten me but @ 4 bucks a spring I will splurge a bit.. plus using a file here and there gets a few 1000 more rounds out of it before I change it again. Mat
  9. I am one of those people... I shoot my 17 way better in uspsa and I have turned my 34 into an open plate gun using a carver mount and kkm bbl and sjc comp. runs great with the same trigger set up and will run 130 pf with an 11lb spring. love it Mat
  10. this is exactly what i shoot!!! plus a few extras reduced recoil spring ect.. and a little bit more custom home grown trigger using a lf ultimate trigger stop and have done really well so far Mat
  11. we shoot plates here in southern miss at our indoor range every friday night. we have some guys that run 2.7 with open rigs from surrender @ 10 yards 5 plates. we have the same plate set up max cut his teeth Tom dutchman bought the sey up from the old St. Benard range I think. The best I have been able to do was tonight 3.0 flat from the low ready glock 34 @ 10 yards Mat
  12. Being new to Hand gun shooting ( started shooting pistol 3 months ago) I have had to come up with a way to really hone sight picture and accuracy. This is a simple fun game I play either by myself or with my wife or freinds. I get a deck of cards ( being on the gulf coast in MS we come by these really easy casinos all over)Shuffle them and we each draw a card. What ever the number value on the card is thats how many rounds you have to shoot in it. If you miss you have to double the amount Plus the missed shots. The player with the lowest score wins. For example tonight I drew the 4 of clubs in the first draw. 4 well placed shots and then it was the wifes draw she drew 7 of hearts 6 well placed shots and one miss. so then she followed up with 7 more good shots plus one for the miss. score for that round me 4 her 15 we started this @ 5 yards and once we had mastered that yardage moved back to 7 yard now we are at 10 yards. The great thing is we use IPSC targets and staple them right over the A. Sometimes it may take a gew days to finish a game but its great fun and really helps with accuracy. The other game we have started is the same thing @ 5 yards again but using a par time. if you draw a 5 you get 5 seconds plus 2 second draw time. so 7 seconds to draw and fire 5 rounds in a playing card. the other game we are going to start is the same thing but you draw 3 cards using three ipsc targets and you have to shoot the value and reload between each target. try it out see if it helps you Mat
  13. AHHH HAAA! I was having the same problem. My primer slide just wasn't going back far enough to drop a primer. I just chalked it up to primer crud and had taken to just a quick tug on the slide after it started haning up after about 300 after cleaning. point 7 my rod bracket was about 3/4 inch above the tool head. I think this should fix my issue. Mat
  14. it first came for me when I started seeing the muzzle flash. After a short session with Blake Miguez today he pointed out one thing that I would have never noticed my own. I was bringing my eyes to the sight and not the sight to my eyes. I would draw, extend and my head and eyes would follow my front sight to the target. we did a few drills working on me viewing my target and not moving my eyes from my point of aim and then bringing my sights to my eye. I dry fire practiced everything, he had me make some minor adjustments to my grip and stance and it happened doing the transition drills later. I was able to track my sights catch my next target in the corner of my eye and move and cut one all Alpha second off my transtion times!!!! I am very happy and am very happy with my overall performace given that i have only been shooting pistols for about 3 months. I then took and run a modified bill drills on 3 targets one @ 5 yards one @10 yard and one at 15 yards. I then cut the alpha out of three targets and stapled the no shoot side to the front of the targets giving me only the alpha center to shoot. best times at five yards all A 2.75 seconds 6 shot string 10 yards all A 3.27 6 shot 15 yards All A 4.7 6 shot then I run all three All A 5 shots each 12.5 seconds all my times are at least a full second faster! can't thank blake enough!! Mat Price
  15. any one shoot two division at the same match? I would like to shoot both limited and production using my glock 35 custom and production using my glock 17. Is this generally acceptable? do others your squading with seem to mind that your shooting twice on the same stages? Mat
  16. I have the same question. Why use #7 for minor 9mm? simple! I know that a little faster burning powder will result in a less felt recoil BUT, I use it for both 40 s&w and 9mm AND the big factor I got 8 lbs of it for next to nothing because it went under water in Katrina and the jug was all messed up but the seal was not broken. also though I usually shoot 124 grain. I have tried power pistol, wsf, wst, and AA#7 for my 9mm loads and for whatever reason I like the AA#7 the best. now when i change my recoil spring i might not and may try something a little faster but for now AA#7 works great for me and it is EXTREMELY accurate out of my 34. Since i posted this though I found my 147 grain loads were not very accuarate and went back to the 124 dp and my old load and get 2 inch groups @ 15 yards.
  17. cool thanks! I dont mind shooting limited with it. I could shoot limited 10 and then not even worry with mag extensions... although I could also get some +5 base pads and shoot all alpha!!!! yeah thats what i will do shoot all alpha to make up for the minor scoring disadvantage lol! at the moment I am hunting a 34 to shoot production but it would be fun to shoot limited also.
  18. I know that the lone wolf slide is not allowed in production although most local clubs will rarely say anything about it but it would never fly in a major event. would it be legal in limited. Its all I have to shoot right now and if i ever get called on it at a local shoot could i shoot limited with it or would i have to go to open ?
  19. hey yall thought i would share my chrony data from todays range session Glock 34 storm lake bbl indoor range 147 gr pd fmj 6.7 gr aa#7 win brass/ win spp 1.110 OAL avg vel= 970.8 pf= 142.7 sd=20.9 es= 55.1 hi= 994.5 low= 939.5 147 gr pd fmj 7.0 gr aa#7 win brass/ win spp 1.115 OAL avg vel= 1020 pf= 150 147 gr pd fmj 7.2 gr aa#7 win brass/ win spp 1.120 OAL avg vel= 1150 pf= 169 all loads were to hot for minor but the recoil and muzzle flip even at the 169 pf was really good. I prefer it over the 124 grains i have been loading. so I am going to try 6.3 @ 1.120 and that should put me right around 135 pf ps 147 gr xtp jhp @ 1.115 and 4 gr wsf was around 915 and 135 pf. this would be a very nice load very very mild recoil but was to smokey and dirty for my taste.
  20. I dont have small hands. in fact i have big bear paws. but for some reason I do have to change my grip significantly to change mags using my strong hand. I am going to try using a production legal ext mag release and keep practicing. as fast i am using this tech I think i can get faster and more accurate shots using the "correct method"
  21. I am not sure if i have taught my self a bad habit. with little to no formal training I have always dropped the mag with my weak hand thumb just how I do i have always done it. in this learn as you go game of uspsa I have retained that technique but just sped it up. sometimes i can get a new out and up to my sight line before the ejected mag hit the ground. But i am wondering if i should be doing it differently to maybe improve my accuracy after a mag change. could someone point me to a good video showing how it should be done. Also when doing a mag change i have seen it done where the gun is in your line of sight pointed in the air at 45 degree angle would that be a 180 violation? Mt
  22. ok thanks 1.125 passes the barrel test on both my stock g-17 and lone wolf g34 bbl. Yeah we have a chrony at the club. that I have used working up other loads. I just wanted to be safe and not go to deep ect..
  23. I cant find any data after searching for about an hour for a "real" oal for the xtp. All hogden gives is 147 jhp = max oal for wsf. Does anyone have a suggestion? I was thinking around the lines 1.150 but that just seems long looking at it it does chamber well and extract. I was hoping to be between 1.100-1.125. I need to make minor PF and i am afraid having them out that far and only using 4 grains is not going to cut it out of my glock 34 hogden gives 1.100 for everything BUT wsf on the 147 xtp.
  24. I like wsf its a little dirty but it meters really well and is faitly cheap. I am trying my first 147 gr loads with it today.
  25. +1 4.9 grains out of my g17 pf of about 129 oal 1.125 funny how that 2 inches of barrel makes that much difference.
