  1. No long range? Really? Well, that makes my life so much easier!!!!! I'll shoot my Vortex Strikefire red dot one last time before I sell it and use the money for a 1-4x. Thanks Jesse.
  2. Oh my GOSH!!!!!! I'm about to pull my hair out trying to decide. I'm going to shoot my first 3-gun match on the 21st and I want a 1-4x. Problem is I can't decide whether to buy a $800-ish scope and risk not liking the one I buy, or to buy a $200-ish scope, shoot it for a few matches, and look at everyone else's nicer scopes in order to see which I like best. I'm leaning toward the $200-ish side, but now I'm stuck......again. Millet DMS?- not great glass, heavy, but has illum and donut style reticle. Weaver V3?- Better glass, basic reticle, no illum. Nikon M223?- Even better glass, pretty good reticle (point blank) but no illum. What I'm stuck on is this; 1. Is illum more important than clearer glass? Does the Millet's illum justify its purpose? 2. Is a "dot" style reticle more important than a "plex"? If I knew those answers, I could make a decision. I'm leaning towards the Weaver just because of the cost; knowing that I will buy a Meopta/Trijicon/US Optic or something in a few months. I'd like to order something today, so if you've got some advice, let me know.
  3. Maybe I'll run into some problems later, but I got 3 Kahns from MGS a couple weeks ago. I shot 34 rounds through each of them, they dropped free, and no FTFs. So I ran two of them on my back two CR speed mag pouch in last Saturday's Match. I didn't have any functioning problems out of them, but they are a little tighter in the mag pouch. I'll probably order some more Glock mags just because they will pull easier. I'll keep shooting the Kahns and see if I get any malfunctions.
  4. Those look great!! I really want to put some panache on my G34, but I'm so A.D.D.---------SQUIREL!!!---------see ......that I'm afraid it would distract me while competing.
  5. Even a 9mm can get you in plenty of trouble if bullets get set too deep. The OP is trying to figure out why he is not getting consistent OAL with certain components. I, and many others here, are not engineers and still want our loads to be consistent and SAFE. Kevin, I think what you really mean is "ESPECIALLY" a 9mm can get you in plenty of trouble if bullets get set too deep. The pressure variance curve increases exponentially as you approach published maximums, right? Even with my limited experience, I have learned to respect the volitale pressures of a 9mm. round.
  6. Wow I guess I need to seperate some brass and see if I get the same results. I've loaded a little over 4000 rounds for my G34, since I've owned it, and I haven't really seen an accuracy problem with any of the brass. Like I said, maybe if I shoot them seperately I will see a difference.
  7. We use the coin drill to teach new Soldiers trigger control. If you've ever been in the military, you've probably done it with an M16/M4. I like the idea of the pencil. Are there any draw-backs to this drill?
  8. I just got some 147 SWCs. I've been shooting 115s out of my G34 in production, but I've been talking to some guys and reading on the forum that I might want to try some 147s to see how I like them. I got up a little early this morning to load some 147s with 3.2gr of Titegroup. I got 6 loaded and my decapper pin broke. So now I have to wait for another pin to some in until I can really get a feel for the loads. BG
  9. I'm the same way........I browsed here for some time, then finally signed up. I find myself getting on this sight before I even ten to my own sight. Welcome, and maybe you can introduce me to some people when I move back to Alabama as I'm sure I will be hitting up some GA matches. BG
  10. This place is GREAT!! I've only been here for a little while, and I've learned a tremendous amount!! Just read all the "new guy" stuff.
  11. I've got a luggage carrier thing that I'm going to try and use at the match on OKC on the 21st. Your cart gives me some ideas on design. BG
  12. OK, I'm going right now to look up the Prochrono..... I'm loving this search function thingy But, I know I'm going to post some stupid question eventually.
  13. :D115gr Winchester FMJ- 4.4 gr Titegroup- 1.135 OAL. Its a little snappy in my G34, so I'm going to start the downward walk on Powder. I don't have a chrono, so I don't know how fast its slinging. That reminds me, I need to look for a chrono.......

    g35 or g34

OK, I concede to this recommendation........but why does he have to buy reloading components twice? I still like the idea of having an extra press though. One of my friends has only a 550.....something broke (can't remember what), but it took Dillon a couple weeks to get it fixed. It didn't cost him any money, but it cost him a couple weeks with no reloading capacity. That's why I like having my Lee Turret as a back-up to my 550. Plus, I have a few calibers that I don't load that much that stay set-up on the Lee. That way I don't have to reconfigure the 550 to load 30 .380s for my wife to shoot, or 20 .308s for hunting season. Just an idea though.
  15. Thanks for the information. I figured it was something like that. I guess I'm going to get home today and load some 147s I've had sitting on my bench for a year now. I'm going to see how much the difference is. BG
  16. Kevin, I'm actually going to the Reserves. I've only got four more years before I am eligible for a Reserve retirement. I was enlisted first, then went to the dark side. I'm going to at least make it to the retirement, but I'm just burnt out on deploying and not really ready to deal with active duty field grade politics. Duane.....yes, Kevin is my brother. I pretty much blame him for this addiction I have. I got my pilot's license a few years ago, and that was my addiction for a while. Well, I got stationed in Oklahoma, where the wind blows ALL THE FREAKING TIME!!!!!! I can fly in strong winds, but I don't like to......so I didn't fly much. I had to have something to do in my free time, and Kevin had been really getting into shooting and reloading, and really liked it, so I thought I would give it a try. So here I am.
  17. is loving the warmer weather!!

  18. I'm in about the same situation as the OP. I would like to add a question to his....er......questions......since this post has answered some of the ........um.........questions I've had. What makes people decide between 115,124,125, and 147 gr bullets? I've been loading and shooting 115s, but it seems that I notice more people shooting 124s and 147s in minor. Is there a reason? BG
  19. What sizes did you end up getting? BG

    g35 or g34

Taking into consideration your skill level (which is the same as mine), here's what I'd do.......in this order; 1. Keep the 35, sell another gun, buy a Glock 34 and buy reloading equipment. (I know this is blasphemy, but you can get a Lee turret press kit for about $100. It will get you started (addicted) without breaking the bank. Then, when you decide you REALLY want to reload, you buy a Dillon RL550b, and you also have an extra press as a back-up) 2. Sell the 35, buy a 34, and buy reloading equipment. 3. Keep the 35, shoot matches with a goal of competing in Limited, and buy reloading equipment. 4. Keep the 35........buy reloading equipment. If you want to shoot competitevly, you are eventually going to want to tailor ammunition to you and your gun. Just buy it.
  21. David, If you come to the match at OKCGC this saturday, I'll be the guy in a tan hat with a red "A" (Alabama) on it. It's only my second match, so don't ask me for any advice........... I did meet some of the guys up there that have been shooting for a while and I know they will help out if needed. BG
  22. I've been shooting all my life, but over the last year I have gradually fell into the addiction. I've been reading this forum for about a year, and have finally decided to join. I'm now shooting a G34 in production. This Saturday will be my second match and I'm stoked!! I will be leaving the active miltary servive this summer, and moving back to my home state of Alabama. As you can see in the signature below, I am trying to get an organization stood up for shooters in Alabama. I really want to start some sort of business having to do with guns, but I haven't really decided what I want to do. There are plenty of ranges in the Birmingham area, as well as general gun stores. So, it may not be in the cards for me to do something like that, but the website is something that I hope will give me some ideas and make some connections. Now, I've got to get over and read some more about sights and stuff.
