  1. Move the target back to 15 yards...... BSG
  2. Welcome; and I don't think I met you last night at H&H. If you're shooting any of the other matches in OK, I'm the guy wearing an "Alabama Shooters Association" hat. BSG
  3. So will practicing your reloads 40 times a day for a month ...couldn't resist. DOH!!!!! I know, I know, I know................................I'm trying to get every advantage I can.
  4. Someone showed me, months ago, that they had flared or done some polishing on the inside of the stock G34 magwell. I'm trying to find out if anyone has some insight, pics, know how, or advice on how to go about this. I know it can't be more than 1/4 inch more than stock, but a 1/4 inch may help a little in Production Div. BSG
  5. I suggest starting with a 550. It will get the job done, it's easier to keep up with as a new reloader, and you can always sell it and upgrade later. You'll notice that Dillon products have a great resale value due to the quality and the no questions asked warranty. I trim mine with a Lyman Universal trimmer with a hand drill attachment. The only thing I wish I had was a super swager, which I'm going to get soon. BSG
  6. That's great! Write down everything you learned and teach me when I get back in town!!! BSG
  7. "Practical Shooting" Beyond Fundamentals by Be. BSG
  8. I can tell you from experience, Brian's advice will work. I didn't even try to shoot faster, I just tried to see more. I was at the range today running some drills and I set up a "stage" that I run every once in a while to see how I'm progressing. I try to vary the distances, transitions, and bullet placement so I don't rely on rote. Well, starting out 6 months ago, I would run it at about 11 seconds. I ran it today, and busted 8 seconds. I just stared at the timer. I had never been below 9 seconds, and there, staring back at me was a 7.833. I ran it again just to make sure it wasn't a fluke, and I ran a 7.632. So I just sat down to think about it. I didn't feel like I was shooting "faster", in fact, I still feel like I am in slow motion while I'm shooting. I realized that I was shooting the same speed, only I was seeing more, lining the sights up faster, and pulling the trigger before my brain was consciously telling me to. It was a great feeling. Brian, I really appreciate your book and all it's given me. Taking what I learned from Pat and Mike at USSA, and combining it with your expertise, I have improved dramatically more than I would have ever imagined to in only 6 months. All that to say; don't shoot faster, see the sights faster, and shoot the same speed.
  9. Texas State Championship coming up in July in Breckenridge. Go register before June 1 to get the discount. Welcome.
  10. I used to want my brass to be real pretty. Then, I realized that semi-clean brass shoots the same an spit shined brass. Like me, you went from long range precision hunting rounds, to slow, close in, fast pistol rounds. They still have to be accurate, but only out to about 30-50 yards at most, and mostly below 20. Using walnut media eliminates the issue with media in the primer pocket. I actually run an 80/20 mix of walnut and corn cob. I also put a little paint thinner and car polish (ammonia free) in the mixture and that really cuts through the gunk. All this lets me clean less, reload more, and miss faster!!!! BSG
  11. Thanks for the info guys. Since this is my first big match, there are a few questions I need answered before I send in my application. 1. I am active duty military; do I need to check the military box? Would that mean I would only be competing with other military guys? Are there any advantages or disadvantages to this? 2. I was looking for a squad matrix, but I'm probably looking in the wrong place. What I would like to know is if every squad is shooting all stages in one day, or do you shoot some stages on Saturday, then some on Sunday? 3. My wife and one year old daughter are coming with me, but I'm sure they will not be at the actual match that much; she wants to see some things in the city since she's never been there. If they come to the match, is there overhead cover that they could hang out under and will there be food and drinks that she could purchase? 4. Does anyone have any suggestions as to where my wife and I might go on Friday? Maybe something that is unique to Albuquerque? Any restaurants that are unique and would create a cool memory? (I know, kind of sappy, but when momma's happy, we're all happy!) 5. Will I be able to go to the range on Friday and run a few drills? I think that's it, but if anyone has any other pointer for me, please, share. BSG
  12. Well, I think I talked the wife into letting me shoot the High Desert Classic. This will be my first major match, so I'd be extremly gratefull if there were some experienced shooters that I could "tag along" with for the match. I'm gonna get my app in this week. I've already got the jitters..........been shooting USPSA since February, shot 7 matches, and I went straight to C class. GREAT!!!! No one told me about "sand bagging"!!! Lord knows I'm not going to the prize table this time around!!! BSG
  13. Yea, I almost thought this was cancelled too. I got a little confused between this and the Texas State Open, down at Central Texas Rifle and Pistol Club that was cancelled. I'm sending in my application this week. I hope there is enough support to shoot this match..........let's get those apps in people!!!! BSG
  14. Buy every gun you think you might want to shoot. When you decide on the one you like the best, put the rest of them in the safe.................. If I lived by that, this would be my wife and I !!!!!! Welcome. Just go to matches and ask guys to shoot their guns after the match is over. I've let a few people shoot mine. BSG
  15. Just got 3750 124gr MGs FMJ RNs. Gonna try out the titegroup load. Glad someone else asked the question. Thanks.
  16. Well that's true since there is no such thing. Production is a Division. Shooters are Classified into different Classes by shooting Classifiers. Guns are Divided into Divisions. Yea, um, I was talking about the "Production Class" I attended for those of us shooting in the Production Division so we could improve the class in which we were classified and move on to other divisions and take other classes to improce classification. Quit picking on the retard!!!
  17. Nice job mike! To make things easier, just shoot the Glock from now on!
  18. I love it!! I'm still gong to put a trigger in my Glock 34 when I can let go of the money. There's not much you really can do in the production class. I've done sites, spring, skate tape on the grip and that's about it. Good look, and I hope to see you in A class before I make it there!!! BSG
  19. STI's Trojan for single and Edge/eagle for double. +1 on checking out the classifieds here. There's always a limited .40 for sale on there that I am drooling over.
  20. I love my 200gr LSWC in front of a little titegroup. I haven't been able to beat it yet.
  21. Welcome aboard. There's no cure for this addiction, by the way.
  22. I'm partial to the 10/22 since it was my first gun. I own a Marlin also, but there's just something nostalgic about my Ruger.
  23. I don't..............last time I did, I cried.
  24. Thanks Lee. Good to meet you and your son too. I will be back next month since it is an easy sale to convince my wife to visit her parents.
