  1. Does anyone remember the long and drawn out process to get the singlestack division? And in my opinion there was a much stronger case for SS.
  2. Really? What about the states with a 10 rd limit? +1
  3. +1... My only problem with them....I live too close. :-) See, I delude myself into doing in store pickup under the idea that I'll save money by not paying for shipping. Only to walk in there and whip out my wallet and buy more stuff.... I happens every time. :-) Byron
  4. I have a P07 Duty in .40. One of the first things I did was get the night sights since I too intend to carry it eventually. NOTE: the replacement Night Sights from CZ are plastic too..... I just need to get some more rounds through it before I'm comfortable carrying it. Overall, I like the pistol.... It also comes with a second set of safeties, so you can flip back and forth from DA/SA to SA only mode. Byron
  5. Stages professional tweak by Carmoney, somethings are priceless.... So, they are all 6 round neutral now? :-)
  6. 3.0 Grains of Clays out of my 3.8 inch barreled CZ P07 Duty made 144 about 2 weeks ago and it feels nice and runs the gun well. I was using a 180 grain BBI bullet. Byron

    Byron's log

We have a little suppressed MP5 action today. So, I opted for the full engagement of the giggle switch on the happy maker,,,,,,it made me smile. Gotta thank the guys at Bud's Gun Warehouse and Range for supplying the cool prop gun. The new 6 inch Limited gun ran well. Second overall, still much room to improve. I cost myself a good 8 second + due to how I choose to deal with the steel plate on the field course. Shooting that steel from the platform was a MUCH tighter shot than I thought it would be. I SUCKED on steel, but part of that is on me. I need to spend more time with the new limited gun. It's POI is different from my old fixed sighted Kimber, so I need to get some time on a range that isn't part of a match and get it dialed in more how I like it. I just didn't have the hours to burn before the match. Oh, I forgot,,,,Enjoy the "steel range two step" as Tony calls it....
  8. I run .40 minor in my carry gun when I shoot it in IDPA. I use 3 grains of straight clays behind a 180 grain BBI bullet. Now, I wouldn't load clays to major PF in .40, but this 3 grain load out of my P07 Duty functions well, has been reliable in the pistol and made 144 Pf on Saturday when it was hot. The felt recoil was NOTHING compared to the factory ammo or major PF ammo I shot through it (Universal Clays for major) before. Byron

It has been a while, here's my most recent match.....I think I have the gun issues squared away now.
  10. Just snagged a .40 cal CZ P07 Duty. Primarily for carry, however, it will make its way to the range for some competition occasionally.

    Cold garages!

Same problem here,,,,new house. Well, we've been in it a year. Unfortunately, the garage door is lower on the priority list to fix, that darn thing is terrible. It is in the 30's in there....
  12. Update.... No more meniscus tears for now. Did have a bone bruise, so I guess I need to start taking it a little slower/easier on the knees till I get some more weight off me. I've dropped 42 lbs from my all time high. Next milestones are 60 lbs down,,,,,that'll put me under 300 and another 58 down to get to 100 lbs lost. Slow and steady has been the key. 42 lbs over about 18 months. Looking forward to getting a bit more weight off me, getting the inflammation under control and getting some more exercise. Had my first cortisone injection today,,,,it SUCKED. They numbed the skin to help with the stick, but I guess there was a lot of inflammation and swelling internally and that just hurt like heck. So far, it feels a little sore/stiff and what feels like a little extra pressure. We'll see.

I need to get back in the habit of posting. Sorry. I've shot like crap the last few weeks, but if I'm going to be intellectually honest with myself and with you, I need to post the crap along with the good stuff, so I'll do better. I've been pushing to hard,,,,,my trigger control is back to sucking. So, next match (whenever that is) I'll be focusing more on accuracy. Later......
  14. I got out and shot the Indiana State SS/Prod/Rev match. Great match by the way. If any of you were there, you may have seen me hobbling around with a cane. I hated using it, but I have no doubt it let me finish the day shooting/standing. I need to get back into the doc (appt tomorrow), I think I've torn my meniscus,,,again. NOT at the range mind you. At, church a few weeks ago.....was trying to step around one of my daughters and caught my foot/tripped on a seat leg and twisted the foot/knee outward (same twisting motion and same burning pain as last time). The pain settled down fairly quickly. But, ever since with just a little extra walking/running with shooting it stiffens back up, gets that full/pressure feeling, crunches, clicks and pops and generally feels like a toothache in the middle of my leg, just like before. I've dropped about 40 lbs which seems to be helping, but this is miserable. The pain sucks and the lack of mobility is just killing me on the range in matches. I may just have to resign myself to the fact that USPSA is going to be more recreational than competitive in my future. I may have to take up Steel, or pin shooting to feed my competitive desires, at least it is a little more stationary. I am not looking forward to this round of Dr. appts.....
  15. Just shoot some Bill Drills, if you're having trouble with shot calling, that is a great way to work on it. Shoot Bill Drills focusing on getting A's as fast as you can see the front sight. Then,,,,,since it is practice, PUSH yourself harder/faster (use a time/par timer). Find out where/when you start losing the ability to call the shot/see the sight. Then get repetitions to learn how to see and process the information that is available to you faster. I wouldn't intentionally add sight misalignment on an audible que,,,,you're striving to avoid losing your front sight to call the shots, strive toward perfection, don't intentionally introduce a bad habit to improve. Eventually what you want is enough repetitions so that you've basically reprogrammed your trigger finger to squeeze the INSTANT you have an acceptable sight picture. Once you have the adequate repetitions in and have trained yourself to "see", you WILL have a moment in practice of in a match when you engage a target,,,,,then as you're transitioning to another you'll realize,,,,"hey, I fired 3 rounds there because I had to make up a shot but I didn't slow down". When that happens and you are completely smooth, you've got it. It'll almost feel like you're watching the action 3rd person.... Good Luck.... Good question. Byron

    Girlfriend

My wife isn't anti-gun, she's just anti-me shooting and it is a constant issue. And once you're married, it is different. I'm shooting "some" but not as often as I'd like, but that's compromise and I have to deal with it. But, it is a PITA, because, even though there is compromise, I still have to pay an additional price. Byron
  17. Edited to protect the guilty....I had commented on this, but when I reviewed some videos of myself, I must plead guilty. I didn't even realize my weakhand was drifting that far forward....I'll be more cognizant of this in the future, thanks for bringing this up.

    Byron's log

OK, here's the video from the last match. Stages 1 and 3 were about as good as this fat guy on a bum wheel can do. I won both of them. However, a local GM was about .9 fast on the 3rd stage, but he threw a mike. I tried to focus on being efficient/fast and not out running the trigger due to the tightness of some of the shots due to visual barriers. That worked great on 1 and 3. Stage two was a trainwreck. It is an unloaded start, I got a bad grip from the start and never really fully recovered, the gun bounced all over the place, my hits were horrible, I was slow, I had to make up 2 shots and still threw a mike. I'm not worried about that, in all my years of shooting, that's the first time that has ever happened. The grip was so bad, you can't tell as I'm approaching my first shooting position, I nearly dropped the gun. So, that got in my head a bit. Anyway, enjoy. Let me know if there is anything you see that could be done better on 1 and 3. I was pretty happy with those runs, but am always looking to learn.
  19. Here's the video from last night. Stage 1. Many people were running straight ahead to the array of single targets in the middle, then working across. This added distance to travel and due to the targets being in the little allies, it limited your field of view considerably. Also, many that went that far forward got hung up in the last ally and had to step back to clear it. If you notice, I nearly fall into that trap on the last ally. By taking a straight diagonal line across I cut down the distance I had to travel and since I could see the targets better, I could transition a bit smoother. Then on the targets in the back of the bay, I started shooting those as soon as I saw them and was still moving, they were wide open targets after you made your way around the corner. Again, my foot speed isn't going to win a race with much of anyone, but after engaging T1 (the deep target) I tried to be sending rounds downrange as soon and as continuously as possible. Stage 2. Trainwreck, bad grip, poor entrance into the first shooting position as I was attempting to improve my grip,,,,it just never got better. I had the right plan, just failed miserably in execution. Stage 3. There was a target exposed immediately in front of the start box. There was a temptation to draw to that target before moving left/right. The problem there is that is a stationary shot and gets me no closer to the end of the stage, by standing still, I would be wasting time. So, the thought was, move to the left as fast as a fat guy with a bum wheel could go then start burning through the targets. The first array allowed me to get 8 rounds off, then there were 2 targets in the middle I could shoot on the move. Once I got the second of those on the move, I was positioned to take out the last two targets. The gaps between the barrels on the two targets shot while moving in the middle were barely wider than the A zone, so the key was not outrunning your trigger finger. Anyway, I'm no GM, but the first and the last stage are the kinds of runs I've been working on shooting over the last couple months since I started my comeback. I hope there is something in there of use to someone... If anyone sees anything I can do better, I'm all ears,,,,,with the exception of "move faster". I'm working on that already.
  20. If my buddy gets the video's posted on youtube later I'll post my runs from last night's match. Two of the stages should be decent examples of this. I managed to win both stages and I really think that one was because I took a bit more efficient line through one portion of the stage accepting shots that were about 2 yards farther in some cases and shooting on the move as fast as I could see my front sight. The only reason I won the other stage was our local GM was about 1 second faster than me, but threw a Mike. But, there is another efficiency lesson to learn from that stage and I'll talk about that later. Don't ask about the other stage,,,,,that was a cluster. I blew the most basic part of that stage, the grip. It was an unloaded start and I got a crappy grip at the start and never recovered. I didn't move well, it felt like my setup/body positioning was bad, and the sights bounced all over the place. That run was generally a train wreck from an execution standpoint. The best way to learn is exactly what you're doing, ask people. The weekly matches I shoot as really informal. There are a lot of newer shooters and I don't mind a bit if someone asks to share/help them learn. You're doing the right thing in asking these questions, and there are some great resources to help. Do you have your runs video taped?? If not and you have access to a camera/or a smart phone with video capability, I would encourage you to record your runs. NOTHING helps you spot weaknesses in your game faster than video and an open mind. :-) I don't get to the range very much, but video and dry fire have helped me come farther faster in the few months I've been back in the game than I did in the years before. I watch myself shoot and KNOW instantly what I need to work on. And if I have doubts on what that is I ask for friends to give advice/feedback. I'm not a GM, but I was pretty happy with the two stages I won last night....
  21. Ding Ding Ding....And then move fast and shoot as fast as you can see the front sight. It really is about seeing that sight and re-programming your trigger finger to squeeze the instant an acceptable sight picture is available so that you're shooting instead of thinking. I'm about the size of an NFL lineman, THE ONLY way I can come anywhere close to being competitive with the swift footed GM's at my local matches is to be absolutely efficient as possible. I have to be efficient, moving fast,,,,and shooting on the move when it makes sense as fast as I can see my front sight, or perfecting my technique for setting up into shooting positions quickly and some of that means accepting a little movement as I'm coming into a position when I start shooting. Byron
  22. I'm using the no-gap well and the Dawson no-gap pads. They've worked great for me. No clue on fitting the box, I'm told they do, but I haven't had an official box to test it with. So far so good. I had some of the old style CMC's with the welded on bases that I tried hacking on to make work.....no go. Big pain in the neck and in the end, I created a couple mags I was concerned with seating/ejecting properly and consistently, so I opted for the piece of mind and bought the new CMC's that work with the Dawson no-gap pads and I haven't looked back. Byron
  23. So true...lol... those damn tape. I hate the the darn things are packed sideways in those stupid bulky holders. Dump them on your flip tray and after a couple roll off you still have to jiggle them to get them right side up to be flipped. I like the Winchester packaging,,,just plop them on the flip tray, cover, flip, done..... However,,,,,I'd REALLY like to get one of those automated primer tube filler thingies.....I hate filling primer tubes, just KILLS any momentum I had in loading.

    Byron's log

OK, I shot Single Stack division last night for the second time ever. It was a learning experience. I learned a lot about the challenges of shooting uspsa with 8 round mags. GOTTA make every shot count. I went to slide lock on every stage last night. I had one standing reload due to slide lock and I had another standing reload due to a mag that wouldn't drop. I did pull one round into a NS on the last array of targets on the second stage in the video below, but I know why I did that, It wasn't an issue with sight picture, I just transitioned right into the NS... Opps....

Some friends of ours had a 17 year old son. One day he says,,,,"I'm tired of getting bossed around, when I turn 18, I'm joining the Army." HUH?!?!
