  1. On open sights a la limited, focus is supposed to be on the front sight and target blurry. Those open guns can spoil you with the red dot sights lol
  2. These forums are a great source of info. On Dillon equipment they will help with technical questions over the phone I believe, if you need quick answers.
  3. It's not rocket science on a 1911. If you are good with tools and it sounds like you are this sounds like a fun project. If in doubt, get a video on gunsmithing the 1911. I think wilson or clark has a video on this model.
  4. Where can I find real world values for used guns? I am trying to figure out how much a used browning 9mm blued is worth for an estate. Purchased in 1973 or so. Thx for any help.
  5. LOL 352 yards with a .45 1911? Now you are shooting a pistol like a mortar!!!!!! The bullet was under powered flight half of the way there and then just fell back to earth.
  6. Paper plates from the dollar store for real cheap targets. Black felt marker, draw a black circle or square in the middle. Do some practicing on some small targets regularly and then the match targets seem huge.
  7. How old is that pistol? How accurate is it at 25yds? Did your draw change? lol it looks like a fun pistol!!!!
  8. If you load your own the .45 can be loaded with some very light loads. Put in a lighter recoil spring and some light loads and it will shoot like a "BB" gun. Very light recoil loads are easy if you load your own and you save money on powder ChaChing
  9. I haven't shot any of my guns in probably 4 years. Getting the itch again to use them but have moved to Oregon. Where are the good places to shoot in Grants Pass, Oregon Area? Thx
  10. I have a Glock 22 and it doesn't seem to have anywhere near the accuracy that my STI .45 has. Pie plate size groups are the norm at 25 yards from the Glock versus about one big ragged hole from the STI .45. What kind of accuracy are you guys getting from a stock Glock?
  11. Why does everyone seem to learn to shoot with one eye closed. I was taught to shoot by my father with the one eye closed method. I guess he learned to shoot with one eye closed and it was reinforced in the navy. When I found out that some people shoot with both eyes open, I tried that method. I learned to shoot with both eyes open in one range outing. Much easier on eye strain I think.
  12. I have several guns with various sights installed. It doesn't bother me that each weapon has a different sight. If it bothers you then it may be worth changing sights so that you are more comfortable with the sight picture. Are you thinking about how you don't like the sights as you are shooting?
  13. WWWWWWWWEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLCCCCCCCCCOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  14. Arizona Rocks. No need for stinkin permits to exercise your second amendment rights!!!!!!! Brewer for President!
  15. Welcome to the forums. I suggest moving to east Mesa, AZ in the winter and Ohio in the summer. Welcome!!!!!
  16. Welcome to the forums. They still have guns in Kalifornia? lol
  17. I was thinking of getting P90X, but I have found it used at a fraction of the retail price. Seems like a good and exhausting workout.
  18. If you are planning on shooting in competitions regularly for a long time to come then you would be wise to set up your pistol as well as you can from the start. We pay big bucks to gunsmiths for the mods that help us get faster and more accurate because it's needed. If this is just something fun and you aren't wanting to be at the top of the class then do the inexpensive mods. The big investment is in time practicing and reloading :-)
  19. From your post I don't really know if it's an issue with you or the gun. Like has been said, sit down at the bench and use the sand bags and establish a baseline for where each gun shoots taking as much of the shooter out of the equation.as possible. Then if your guns are shooting where the sights are aimed you can work on your technique to get on target. What distances are you shooting at? How much left are your groups? What king of groups sizes are you shooting i.e. 1 inch groups or pie plate sized groups? Some guns do not shoot straight out of the box and need their sights adjusted. Get the baseline first.

    Pro Bowl

+1 dumb move Their employer is giving them an all expense paid first class vacation/party to Hawaii for a week or 2. Plus they get paid more big bucks to play a game for a few minutes. Plus some face time on TV. Yep the NFL is really screwing these guys.
  21. I recommend SVI. One nice attribute for SVI is that they are big enough that they build their custom pistols for some stocking dealers. So you get a custom pistol without a 3 month wait. I had one minor hicup with my gun new and they fixed it right away and they paid the shipping. Pleasure to deal with. Fast warranty service.
  22. Lots of helpful info, thanks guys. I called (got answering machine) and emailed jpl and 9mm of salem. No responses yet, dang holiday. Freedom GW- good tip- looks like lots of stuff I need for xmas :-) The only thing "wrong" with a bar-sto from California is the one 10 round mag the gun ships with. But that's a non issue for me as I live in Mesa, AZ. "Front sight................Trigger.......................rounds, lots of rounds." Changing the front sight, trigger......ooops need it lighter 3 1/2 lbs. way too much for race gun hmmmm need 16 oz. where to go?,,,,,,,,,,, lots of rounds- yep doing that with my SVI. "It is the Indian and not the bow." Indian on a diet after Thanksgivng and the bow needs to go FASTER.....lol ===== RESJUDACATA "It seems to me that if you want to do some work to the gun then below are the things I can recall doing myself. 6" top end with heavily lightened slide ala fatfree. fiber front sight (although if I only shot outside I'd probably stick to plain) heavily stippled grip Dawson Heavy Ice magwell (if you don't already have it) Mags tuned for capacity (21 rounds in STI 140mm legal)" I would love to see the slide you lightened yourself!!!!!!!!! Did you use a file? Drill press? Mill? It has a magwell already. Not sure if it is an ice, but it's great the one it has. Thx for the link on the grip mods
  23. You just changed the sights? Did you get the right front sight for the rear site? I would check with the company you bought from that they sent the proper combination of sights and that the right sights were ordered. Did you shoot some groups before changing the sights? How were those groups? Personally I wouldn't start grinding with just 100 rounds of one ammo through the gun. First I would try some other brands of ammo. Bullet weight can make a big difference in vertical p.o.i. as well as hotter rounds. The faster the bullet flies the flatter it shoots. Try also shooting some groups at 25 yards for comparison.
