  1. Duane, Talked to my brother, who's a kinesiologist/sports nutritionist/physical therapist (sucks when your little brother makes more money). Anywho, he helped with my rehab when I did a simultaneous 3rd degree strain of my MCL and ACL. Fortunately, I was playing tennis for my university (Div. 1) so I had access to tons of killer medical equipment and rehabilitation. However, I finally used them after re-injuring it four more times. Pretty typical athlete response of shake off and it'll go away. Or, take some motrin and when the swelling goes down it's fine. My advice (and confirmed it with the Doc Squirt), go see a doctor first. Have the full barrage of work done (i.e. MRI, x-rays, push/pull on the knee, etc.). After it is diagnosed whether it's a strain or tear, go from there to a physical therapist and get it taken care of. Basic exercises to start will leg raises will lying on your back, on your side, etc. Get real familiar with the stationary bike (or elliptical trainer), to work on dexterity and joint strengthening. Long and slow duration on training, nothing heavy. Then graduate to treadmill, light weight training, using your "good" leg as a baseline for where performance will be. The good news, is that they can rebuild. They have the technology. The bad news is that it will take a little time, and here's the hard part, PATIENCE on your part to not push too hard. Athelete-minded people are the worst when it comes to injuries. Slow progression is better than back sliding. Feel free to drop an e-mail for more info. Rich
  2. I use a Williams rear peep sight and a fiber optic bead in front. It works real well for the close stuff (i.e. the bright dot) and for long shots, it's like shooting a limited AR. Rich
  3. Erik, Airplane and rental car. Seriously though. I might get this wrong, but it'll be close and a look at a map, will clean things up a bit. I-5 to I-405 to 91 to I-105 The 105 will hit 5 and the 405 in Orange County, near Disneyland. Jump back onto either and continue south. This is a loop west of downtown, near LAX. Another way would be 5, 215? (to Pasadena), 91/60?, 405/5 South. This is a loop east of downtown, through Pasadena, Corona/Norco. Depending on when you go through downtown, it won't be that bad to just stay on I-5. Give me a day of the week and approx. time, and I can tell if you're going to be okay. Rich
  4. That's pretty odd. I broke a part on mine and sent it back. It took about a week, for them to get on it, and a week for them to ship it back. So, it might just be a matter of not establishing a relationship with one of the gunsmiths. If it's just sent in for work to get done, it will take a little bit of time. Shotguns are pesky anyways, until you get them running right. I always suggest Briley and always refer folks to Tom. Rich
  5. Anyone have experience with the DPMS .22 uppers? They look cool. With the flat top it's nice, since I can pop my scope off my 3-gun upper and use the .22 for cheap practice. Reliability, quality of magazines, etc. Thanks, Rich
  6. Hi John, I had Briley work on my 1100. It runs like a top. I had them do the following: - Port the barrel - Lengthen the forcing cone - Trigger job - Open up the gas ports - Generally go through and clean up the action After that, we installed a Williams sight with a fiber optic front, 10 round tube, Easyloader and Tec Loader. It shoots reliably and is soft, even with 3 dram handicapped loads. Send it to Tom Michulka and he'll take care of it. Rich
  7. Hi Merlin, Here's the poop: Firearm first. You can bring in your Open or Limited gun without a problem. The only potential hiccup will be if your Open gun is threaded (which it most likely is), and technically, you can be found to be in posession of an assault weapon. The thinking is that it can have a silcener. However, not a big problem. Just FYI. Second, is mags. You cannot bring in high capacity magazines into the state. Period. Too, you can't "borrow" high capacity mags either, without the owner being present. There is a competition exemption that is allowed in the state, but the exemptions are given on a case to case/event to event basis by the Attorney General's office, and require liability releases and other documentation that you're not going to be dealing with. The basis is that the competitor's for the SASS End of Trail in Norco, CA needed an exemption for their lever action rifles that hold more than 10 rounds. Silly I know, but still the law. My suggestion is that you shoot L10 while here. No headaches and you're totally compliant. Rich
  8. Hi Steve, $2,200 isn't too bad. $1,334 for a Dawson Para is great. Know though that the law in California, mandates that you DROS a stock Para (i.e. what's on the list), and afterwards, you can make the mods. Now, I might be wrong, so a call to Dawson, wouldn't be a bad idea. Dave's up on the law and can help. Rich
  9. 300#G is correct. STI can sell guns to California, they chose to not do so any longer, because despite the 'junk gun' testing, manufacturer's can still be found liable. My advice would be to go with an SVI, if it comes with the interchangeable breech face. Then to do a caliber swap it's a new: - breechface - barrel - ejector - extractor Too, if you go to a distributor/dealer like Speedshooters, you'll probably get a better price than going factory direct. There are a number of competent gunsmiths that can fit the parts for the caliber swap, so I wouldn't use the factory for that either. Mags are mags, and a magwell is a magwell. If you want to go with a full blown custom gun, then Erik's advice works too. Buying a frame (private party transfer) or buying a used gun and then rebuilding it, might be the avenue to take. Lastly, you really can't go wrong with a single stack gun. I use a Springfield that a friend tweaked for me and love it to death. It's also my IDPA gun and my personal carry gun. 3 for 1...gotta love it. Rich
  10. I bought a 1050 after one try on a former friend's. Got it used and fortunately it was set up for Super, which I shoot the most of for pistol and 3-gun. Last year, I decided to shoot Limited again, and bought a 650. The reason was simply that I can load for .40 quick and easy, and switch to .223 for 3-gun and load a hell of lot faster than I was (Rock Chucker). If I really start shooting more 3-gun, I'll switch to Supercomp in Open (uses a .223 shellplate and I can then just spin out dies for .223), then sell the 650 and just get a conversion for .40. In short, the 1050 is far better, and not really that much more. I would say, go with an older 1050, rather than the Super 1050. I don't like the long stroke of the Super 1050. If you can make a trip to Phoenix/Scottsdale, you can visit Dillon and load on all the presses to compare. Rich
  11. Talk to Matt Kartozian at Custom Glock Racing (www.customglock.com). He's probably tried it and/or something better. Rich
  12. Sorry Chriss. My mistake. Rich
  13. I'll second that Eric. With 150k, gettin' folks a shantee with maybe a driveway (no garage of course) and an outhouse, that place is great!!! Kathy, I wish you and David the best. I'm definitely going to have to come out and visit. I'll bring the golf clubs! Rich
  14. Hi Garrett, I recently ordered their SII 257x32SG, shotgun scope with the double diamond reticle for my AR. In looking at a friend's, the lenses were really clear and the adjustments were really true. I ordered it with the Stoney Point target knobs. When I get it, I'm sure that it will hold zero well, I am curious how consistent their Exac-Trac system will allow the scope to return to zero from doing adjustments. Chriss Grube I think likes them and writes to this page a lot, so hopefully he can chime in. Hope that helps. Rich
  15. Take care buddy. Those of us up north are praying for you. When you can, let us know how it goes and that you are alright. God bless y'all, Rich
  16. Well, with pistol calibers, I'm guilty of mixing powders. Just isn't that big a deal. I use N320 in .40 and N350 in .38 Super and they're extremely consistent lot to lot. Admittedly, I do re-chrono when I do a lot change. The largest variation so far has been 2 tenths of a grain. As for what to do with the left over. I throw the powder into the lawn and spray with water. The nitrogen in smokeless powder makes the grass grow nice. The only problem was that I was putting it one spot for so long, that I had a really isolated area of great grass and the rest of the lawn was just nice. So now, it gets spread around. Rich
  17. Hi Erik, My first match was near Sacramento and I shot a bone stock, used and abused SA 1911. The hammer followed repeatedly, and I was a nylon holster and a couple of nylon pouches. Quickly that was sent away and out came the Taurus PT100 in .40 with 10 round mags (same holster). Through much more practice than I do now, I somehow finished in the Top 16 in a club match and as fate would have it, it was the same day they decided to have a shoot-off. Lucky me against Russ Wakida and his Limcat Open Gun. To make a convoluted story short. Had the divisions been there, I would have probably gone into Production. Do I think they have made a difference in our sport. I could be wrong, but I would venture to guess not to the degree that was anticipated. Not having a 'race gun', even by Limited standards, forced me to practice more and compete smart. My first major match, was parts heaven. My second match I won an Entreprise frame. Couple more and a few wise purchases, voila hi-cap limited gun...and so on, and so on. The point. I probably have shot in a different division, but the lack of drive to EARN equipment that would allow me to compete better wouldn't have been there and I would have probably not invested as much as I have into this sport.
  18. Here's a good one along these lines. What do y'all think of or have had experience with the Sightron scopes (Chriss, this would be a good for you to answer...the sooner the better, I'm in a big rush). I'm considering dropping their S2 2.5-7x 32mm Double Diamond Reticle scope on my AR. Want to know quality, reliability, durability, etc., etc., etc. Any info is greatly appreciated. Rich
  19. Hi Erik, Congrats bud, that's awesome!!!! I think your assesment is dead on. The trick seems to be, more often than not, to just go faster. When training with my Army recruiter, I hit a wall at 15:30 for my 2-mile run. So we were running one day, and started just telling ourselves to run faster! Sure enough, a week later, we're running at 14:45-15:00 consistently. One more minute to go and I'll be happy. Kyle. I don't like looking at the mag on my belt. It's kind of looking at your gun on the draw. You either know where it is or you don't. If you don't, keep practicing 'til you do. Like BE says about getting iron sights to line up on the draw, do it a couple thousand times, and you'll start to get it right (or something like...paraphrasing from a video). Definitely spotting the mag going into the well, is huge. Pausing a tick just before the mag enters the well, helps out a lot. Rich
  20. Hi Erik, I know it's pretty ambitious, but it was worth a thought. Heck, I'll work for you. With 150 shooters, I think that you're looking at 1-2/3 days (finishing shooting around 3pm) to 2 days without question. 150 shooters x 5 minutes per = 750 minutes. Take that and divide by 9 stages and that's a per stage time of 84 minutes (rounding up). What will probably work well, then is to do two flights of shooters, where one group is one and one group is off. Alternate for Sunday and finish around late-afternoon. If you cut the number of shooters down to 8-9 making 18 squads. I think that I have your e-mail address. I'll send you a schedule that shows it. Basically the odd numbers start at 8am on Saturday and are on one hour and off one hour. One hour lunch for each group of 9 squads (seperately for ease of getting food and visiting any vendors...if applicable). Check it out and let me know what you think. Rich P.S. Is this match going to be around here somewhere?
  21. If it's doing what I'm thinking, i.e. seating the primer too far, remember that the seating depth is adjustable on the 1050. It's the little doo-hickey under Station # 2. After that, the only other problem that I've ever had on my 1050 (and actually the only problem that I've ever had with it) is the primer index slide behind the press sometimes gets disconnected from the little arm that pulls and pushes it (from the turret...I think...y'all know what I mean). Check that, and lube the slide and you should be alright. Rich
  22. I agree with Erik. Game on! If I take a step, and not specified in the course description as a standard exercise or speed shoot, it's a field course. Rich
  23. I think the original issue has been resolved that you should have been issued a re-shoot and you can stop prior to the start signal. DBChaffin - As Vince said, you did absolutely everything right in both cases. Rich
  24. Chriss, Since you've got the evil demons of plastic (credit cards) dancing in my head, how does this sound: Remington 700 Kreiger SS barrel in .260 (although others are convincing me on 6XC as factory brass comes out soon) AICS (non fold up model) AI mags Badger mount HorusVision scope w/ their software Harris bi-pod V-Tac or Quick Cuff sling Any thoughts on which contour? I yield to you great spendor of other people's money. Thanks again for the help. Rich
