  1. That's what I'm thinking. This was a small batch of range pickup brass that I was using for some practice ammo. I always buy (and sell) my brass from an indoor range that does not sell reloads. I know better than to use pickup brass, but this just goes to confirm it.
  2. Been reloading for over 20 years with 1,000,000 + rounds to my credit (had a small business years ago) and just had a first. While loading .40 S&W on my 550 with Dillon dies, the press felt funny and I saw that the head ripped of the brass and the body of the case was stuck in the die (unscrewed the decapper/expander and punched it out with a .45 cal jag). Never had this happen. 2 years ago my son had a case, .40 S&W also) separate in the gun and he could not finnish the last stage at Florida Open. I look my brass over real well, but I guess every once in a while one gets by.
  3. Not really, you smoked me by about 6 seconds on stage 4 last saturday. I know its a long drive, but this Saturday and Sunday is the day/night/day match at "The Range" in Oxford, NC. Sat day/night will be 2 matches in 1 day if you want to come down. Reloading a revo at night in the dark with a flashlight in your hand can be fun !!!!!
  4. For every high-level revolver shooter who does it one way, there's a high-level shooter doing it the other. If you've ever watched Dan Carden or Bjorn Dietrich hit a good reload, you'll see that keeping the gun in the strong hand can be extremely fast also. I have used both methods personally, and am pretty well convinced that they are just about equally fast. The big advantage of the weak-hand reload is that the muzzle tends to stay in much better control, and the chance of breaking the 180 (either horizontal or vertical) is substantially reduced. This is a serious issue. Watch some of the top guys do the switch-hands version (including Jerry), and you'll see them come precariously close to the 180 line, particularly when moving to the left. I've witnessed two revolver shooters get DQ'd for this exact infraction at major matches, and I've seen a bunch more that probably should have been. Just sayin'.... Good point, watch the muzzle on the reloads !!!!!!!!!!!!
  5. I like the JM smooth grips myself.
  6. I switch hands, but some can do it the other way, practice both and do what works.
  7. There are a few types of speedloaders for the 686, see if you can try some from other shooters before you purchase. The holders for them can be a pain to get some that comply with the way the "Rules" are written. Good luck
  8. Those that can, DO, those that can't, well they just go through life like Ed, hiding among all the other bottom feeders, at least Ed has a cool wife !!!
  9. Looks like the boys want to see if the "D" man has enough guts to shoot round gun, Chesty would shoot a round gun
  10. Mel would have shot revo, but she thought you might man up and try revo and she did not want to make you look bad Seth. Thanks for coming down to shoot in the snow, hope you did well, bottom feeder
  11. It's allowed in ICORE, though. I recall Bones feeling SC might actually be too short, though... if the COAL was too short, there wouldn't be much of the round inserted when they're released from the speedloader, and may end up on the ground instead. Might be workable fixed if the center plunger inside the speedloader were trimmed back, though. I just started using a 200gr LRN bullet in Long Colt brass. Best of both worlds. Because of the 200gr bullet, the OAL is the same as my SSR load, but being heavier, they just drop in a little easier. And since the cases are shorter, they eject easier. Copy cat, wonder where you got the idea???????????????????
  12. Wound up with 6 revo shooters for the match, not too bad, but lets try for more next time, I know there are some closet revo shooters out there just waiting to come out!!!!!!!!!!!!
  13. So how did all our Italian friends do at the match?
  14. When you do start to reload, I've been using a 195 lrn to make minor (cast them in the backyard) and make it NO problem with Clays in a 4"gun. The round nose drops into the gun quick and at low velocity, no leading to speak of.
  15. I've got an 8lb er of HS-6, anyone tried that yet?
  16. So far it looks like me, John H, Forrest, Virginia and who else?
  17. Same here, watch an hour show in about 35 minutes
  18. Looking forward to you shooting with us at Sir Walter, as Shooter rob said always a great match, Martin, Ian, Bill and crew are top notch and we are fortunate to have them. We get a State Championship level 2 match every month
  19. I always bring at least 1 spare setup, gun, holster, mag pouches/speedloader holders, ect in case I need it, but more importantly if someone else does. Last weekend a few guys showed up at a local match and one forgot his gun, had stuff for him to shoot.
  20. Bob makes a standoff version that gets the clips out in front of our bellys so we can see them !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks Bob
  21. Just me, or was last night's final few minutes of the episode way cool !!!! Poetic justice at it's finest !!!!!!!!!!!!
  22. I start as close to holster side as I can, but grab what I get when my hand is down.
  23. Lets try for a revo squad at Sir Walter this Saturday, Forrest is coming down from Va with his lady, maybe Dan and Elaine can come down (hint, hint)maybe some of the local IDPA revo's, lets have some revo fun !!!
