  1. Great article. It really helps with the "why".
  2. That was going to be my suggestion as well. I had that got a bit of bend in it somehow and it would stick. The other thing I found is that most pins have a shoulder where the pin is tuned down to form the skinny part that comes through the hole in the slide. That shoulder will get beat up from hitting inside the slide and get peened making a burr and increasing the size a bit in that area. I fixed one that was like that with a file, just removed the burr that was built up. No more problems. I am definantly going to replace the firing pin. That certainly can't hurt anything. One thing I didn't mention is that when the firing pin is trapped, it is not protruding just that small amount to make contact with the primer..it is protruding about 1/4 of an inch. I mean is is way out there, and trapped.
  3. There are no rear sights at all, the firing pin tunnel is clear, the firing pin and spring seem in perfect shape, and I don't know about the tip diameter (but it has worked fine for several thousand rounds prior to this. I removed the firing pin and spring and they are in great shape. Sometimes pieces of the spring break off and cause the pin to bind as well.... I checked the ends of the coils and they are intact. I really appreciate all of these ideas.
  4. Every once in awhile my firing pin gets trapped in the protruding position. I noticed it the other day and racked my slide a couple of times to hopefully free it, and the firing pin block fell out. My guess was that some primer residue or other fouling material was in the firing pin hole, but careful disassembly did not show this to be true. It then didn't happen for awhile. As I was dry firing the other day I noticed that when the hammer dropped I then heard a another click, which I discovered was the firing pin reseting itself. The spring seems to be okay, and is really pretty new (gun is a 1911 Para). It happens very infrequently...any ideas as to the cause ?
  5. This was also my thought (I'm not an RO). But if i bent my right leg to scratch my ankle, my muzzle would be pointed at my lower leg
  6. I guess if Andy can be as forgiving and diplomatic to Contador, I can try also. That was an exciting time trial. They are clearly at the top of the "heap".
  7. I went to school at Ole Miss with John. When me and my buds were riding dirt bikes we would see him shooting turtles and snakes on the lake. We all said, "he won't amount to much with that shootin". Am I a champion dirt bike racer...NO. Did he become a champion shooter...YES. Shows how good a judge of the future I am !!!
  8. Today they go back up the Tourmalet . Andy has promised an attack to get back some time before the weekends time trial. It should be good. Schleck vs. Contador
  9. My Safariland gear has given me good service. Inner, outer belt and holster.
  10. This is my first time to reload new 38 Super brass. It seems as if the OAL varies more than I am used to. I am using 1.235 OAL. I had loaded a bunch with used brass with no problem. Using the same MG 124 gr.JHP I immediatley had to change my die because the new brass seemed to be loading long. Now it seems to vary from 1.235 to 1.239. Is this just because the new cases are harder (less flexible)? Is this enough variance to be concerned?
  11. The race is still very cool, but I was disappointed to see Contodor attack when his rival had that mechanical problem . Historically they don't attack when the yellow jersey is down. I guess he doesn't see it that way. Two big mountain stages and a critical time trial left.
  12. It's always good to have another Southern boy around. Welcome
  13. My Safariland 013 works really well. I enjoy the extra security between stages that the lock gives.
  14. I just took three of my old 38 super Para magazines and upgraded them with new followers, extended springs, Arredondo basepad insert and Dawson base pads, all ordered from Dawson Precision. They function fine...except the slide locks back with one round left. How can I trouble shoot this??
  15. I have been lucky enough to record the morning broadcaset and watch it TOTALLY commercial free at night. It takes only half the time.
  16. It was sort of refreshing in an era of such spoiled athletes with terrible attitudes to hear Lance Armstrong's interview after the last stage. He said he has had great luck in past Tours, but this time his luck ran out, and that is the nature of bike racing. Then he committed to work hard the rest of the race for his team. That is a lot different than basketball players that set up their own TV specials, where everything is about them.

    World Cup

It's like hockey but with more grass, a ball and no fighting. I tried watching it, but I just couldn't get into it. I'm glad the horns are gone.
  18. +1 on this. No problem with security. I like the holster a lot.
  19. I think the answer really depends on what it is you feel velocity impacts. Obviously, it impacts power factor, but other than that, it may impact recoil, gun cycling reliability and consistency, and accuracy. So, to the degree you feel these factors are a) impacted by velocity to some significant degree, important, and c) controllable...that's the degree to which the variation is acceptable.Another way to look at it is, what can you do about it and what level of effort does it take? I appreciate all the info. I was not worried about power factor (I am well above that), but was getting a deviation of up to 30 fps and was wondering if that was extreme. I'm glad to know it isn't. It has no significant impact on felt recoil or dot movement.
  20. +1 on this. I have had them both, they both work great, I prefer the 550B
  21. Welcome to the forum. I love Panama City, haven't been there in about 8 years..I hope Capt Anderson's resturant is still in business .
