Welcome from Ohio.

Congratulations. It is a good feeling to have completed the test and have the RO certification in hand, yet that is just the beginning. I have learned so much, but know I much more to learn.

Being discussed in the second link that sperman posted. March/April 2011 Front Sight page 68. Page 68: No Mags In The Front Pockets? Really? Is it legal for someone shooting in Single Stack Division to carry spare magazines in the front pocket of their pants? Does carrying magazines that way require that they be moved to Open? Please cite the applicable USPSA rules. Answer Unfortunately, yes it does. Appendix D1 item 12 states yes to restrictions on position of equipment, appendix E3 shoes that restriction and 6.2.5.1 states if they do not satisfy the division entered at any time, they are moved to Open. There is nothing wrong with having magazines in the back pockets or another pocket behind the hip bone.

Legal to paint the inside of the magwell?
adively replied to bobmysterious's topic in USPSA/IPSC Rules
wait...are fiber optic sights even legal? i can't find a specific rule or ruling that says "notch and post" can include fiber optic... Yikes! Looks like a problem in the rule book. In the original 2008 Blue book, Appendix D4.21 said this: In the 2008 Blue book "With Board Of Directors Approved Amendments through July 2010", the highlighted text above is now missing. As I recall, the "colored" was what allowed people to apply sight black or nail polish on their sights. Here's the followup for Amidon when I asked about the omission above: that response is great news...though i'm wondering what a match director will follow...the above response from john, or this statement, which is actually in the rule book: Well, since the new rule book went into effect Aug 11, 2010, and Nationals was held in Sept, and there wasn't a slew people who got bumped from Production to Open, nor was there a cry of outrage here on BEnoverse about fiber optics becoming illegal, I'm going to assume that it was considered legal at that match. (I'm trying to dig up photos from nationals showing production shooters with fiber optics, but my Google-fu is weak.) I wonder how many people shot Productions at Nationals with paint in their magwell? Try here. -
You're right, if the pockets are in front of the hipbone. WRONG WRONG WRONG!!!!! The rule states after the start signal!!!! 5.2.4 During the course of fire, after the start signal, unless stipulated otherwise in the stage procedure, spare ammunition, magazines and/or speed loading devices shall be carried in retention devices attached to the competitor's belt and specifically designed for that purpose. Unless specifically prohibited in the Written Stage Briefing, a competitor may also carry additional magazines or speed loading devices in apparel pocket(s) and retrieve and use them without penalty, providing that the USPSA Handgun Rules, June 2010 Edition • 19 20 • USPSA Handgun Rules, June 2010 Edition location of the apparel pocket does not violate the requirements of Appendix D, Item 12 Look at page 68, March/April 2011 Front Sight. Don't have it yet I guess. So you must be telling me that somebody has made a ruling that is contradictory to the official rule book? Page 68: No Mags In The Front Pockets? Really? Is it legal for someone shooting in Single Stack Division to carry spare magazines in the front pocket of their pants? Does carrying magazines that way require that they be moved to Open? Please cite the applicable USPSA rules. Answer Unfortunately, yes it does. Correct. Correct. 8.3 Range Communication The approved range commands and their sequence are as follows: 8.3.1 “Make Ready” – This command signifies the start of “the Course of Fire”. Under the direct supervision of the Range Officer the competitor must face down range, or in a safe direction as specified by the Range Officer, fit eye and ear protection, and prepare the handgun in accordance with the written stage briefing. The competitor must then assume the required start position. At this point, the Range Officer will proceed. Emphasis added by me.

I had a really good time. I would like to thank Corey, Mike, Gary, Kevin and Patty Carroll and all the other people involved in putting this match on. Thank you to all the shooters that came as well. It was finally nice to put faces to names from this site. -Andy -

skdmrklcy, According to rule 5.2.3 Unless otherwise specified in the written stage briefing, the belt carrying the holster and all allied equipment must be worn at waist level. The belt or the inner belt or both must be either securely fixed at the waist, or secured with a minimum of three belt loops. I am so blessed with a beer processing facility and I found a competition belt (inner velcro belt that goes through the belt loops and an outer belt that has the opposite velcro on the belt.) If you are looking for a decent belt for CCW you could try the Beltman or something closer to home Executive Leather Gear. I have order twice in the last 2 months from Executive Leather Gear and had no problems. They are good Amish made leather belts. PM inbound on CCW class. -Andy
