  1. just a quick update cheap crappy chinese measuring instrumensts are crappy. Went and used a mituyo caliper and a micrometer at work, the sizes are perfect. .377ish My step father always told me "never go off half cocked". Now I look stupid.
  2. I just shot 2.5" 8 round group at 25 yards, I think that is pretty acceptable.
  3. pulled a bullet and it measures .357 even after crimp
  4. I compared to my old batch back to back they are sitting next to each other. My old batch doesn't have mold lines either.
  5. So I was running low on my revolver bullets 160 grain round nose from bayou bullets. The new bullets seem messed up to me, half of the bullets are missing the polymer coating in several spots especially the "lube groove" spot. My old bullets where sized to .358 and measured .3575 to .3585, new bullets measure .3555 and there is a seams on them from the mold it protrudes enough to catch my nail. Will I have trouble shooting .355 sized bullets out of a .357 revolver?
  6. if i bell mouth enough to avoid shaving my coated lead bullets i wind up shaving brass in the seating die, daa funnel solves that problem
  7. it said that it is for Dillon so I ASSumed that it works on SDB
  8. So I installed the DAA powder funnel set up for lead bullets in my SDB for 9mm. I noticed that it is noticeably shorter than by stock dillon funnel/expander, I had to screw the housing all the way down to get it to properly flare. I also noticed that my powder measure itself was coming up sideways instead of straight up during the flaring part. Well after a couple hundred rounds Body collar assembly broke where the screw goes in part#20642, and I took the DAA funnel out and noticed that it now developed a burr around the top of the funnel where it was contacting the powder measure. Compared DAA funnel to my stock Dillon funnel stock Dillon has no burrs on top of the funnel DAA has the buts, which by the way were not there when I started using it. Can some one tell me what I missed/screwed up?
  9. I was loading some 9mm on my SDB today and took some measurments. My bras was sized a bit oblong 0.371" on the narrow side and 0.374" on the wide side. Is it normal for brass to be a bit oblong like that after sizing. I did this to several different makes of brass with similar results.
  10. Bumped up my charge to 3.8 grains of solo 1000 and now I am getting good numbers and it burns REALLY clean, night and day difference. I also noticed something that might have been the culprit. My powder measure adjustment screw has been walking clockwise, it likes to wander. Going to get one of those clicker knobs to keep it still.
  11. Thanks guys, checked my SDB, throws consistent powder, no bullet setback, I checked on the bullet before to make sure that there is no overcrimping since I use coated bullets. Will try a higher charge and report back here. I appreciate all the help.
  12. its solo 1000 would .2 grains get me to 130PF?
  13. Loading this on dillon SDB mixed brass. My friend chrono has the numbers saved i will ask him. Gotta figure out what the problem is now. Going to drop a buttload of charges and check for consistency
  14. So I did some shooting today. Set it up at 19 yards. I was pretty darn slow. Was a bit tough with my revolver and H&Kvp9sk but my 22 rimfire LOVED eating up those plates! Thank you so much for steering me in the right direction!
  15. So I shot some of my 9mm loads over a chronograph and I shot 3.6 grains of solo 1000 over 135 grain bayou round nose bullet. My velocity was 812 fps average. I shot 18 rounds over the chrony and my extreme spread was over 50fps? What could cause the spread so wide?
  16. Holy shit that looks awesome. Compatible with SDB?
  17. Wow sounds like my next thing to try. My SDB powder measure was polished too, the problem is with the powder activator/case mouth expanded, large rings/grooves inside that N320 catches on and builds up.
  18. Does e3 burn at lower temps? N320 bridges really bad in my SDB, how does e3 behave in dillon measures?
  19. I am a left handed guy with small stubby fingers, for me it is much easier to index the trigger finger on the slide and drop the mag using the middle finger. Pobably not gonna work with guys who have bigger hands, but they can use their thumb to release the mag I dont even reach to the lever with my thumb.
  20. Just put in an order. How long should the target holder 2x4 be? Cant wait for this to come in. I am a decent shot my my target transition and follow up skills are somewhere between whale poop and dog poop.
  21. Wow that is a really good deal and a very good point. I really appreciate it guys.
  22. So I am pretty clueless about steel targets. I was thinking of making a poor mans plate rack with these free standing knockdown plates: http://www.shootsteel.com/ar500-knock-down-target-8-round/ Any thoughts or suggestions? I want to do 2 things a:Get good at target transitions b:knock down steel targets because it looks friggin fun!
  23. I dont have a problem with lot to lot variation. Buy two jugs at lets say 3.6 grains a bullet I will have to fire over 31,000 rounds before I have to tweak my load. I am no Jerry Mickulek, I am just a simple peasant so 31,000 rounds should last me more than a couple years.
  24. Interesting how the powder behaves in different guns. In my 38 special I load 3.6 grains of Solo 1000 with 160gr bullet, gun feels like a mouse fart and there is no flash. Loaded up some 9mm for my Sumbcompact H&K VP9SK with short barrel Same powder and same amount Solo 1000 3.6 grains and 135 grain bullet, this time lots of flash and I can see the sparks shooting out the barrel when I fire often. Still a pleasure to shoot compared to my defensive loads due to recoil. Just wanted to share my observation.
