  1. You guys that have used surplus a bunch... Do you find that the powder will vary jug to jug even if it's bought all at the same time? I have 36 pounds of this powder and it's all from the same lot according to the sticker on the jugs. I'm just wondering if I should throw it all into a 5 gal bucket and mix it up before I load anymore to get the most consistent results. I'm loading it pretty light so I'm not worried about a big jump in pressure, I just don't want my POI to have a big shift between batches.

Heads up - that means nothing at all. Just like another poster said, I've hit maximum safe pressures with the starting load...

For my application - I don't use it past 150 feet. If I have to shoot further than that, I'm at a major match and I'm shooting some of the best components over commercial powder (no sense in paying to show up and shoot milsurp).

Having worked with DRMOing small arms components, all it takes is a lazy government worker or contractor with the wrong lot on a label to **** up your day.

I'd mix all of them safely (ESD) and work up.

  2. So I recently purchased a used Giraud Trimmer and I am having problems getting a uniform debur and chamfer. The guy I bought it from said he trimmed about 300 rounds. It looked practically brand new so in my opinion he was telling the truth. On with my problem... One side will be trimmed perfectly, but the other side will barely be trimmed at all. I cant get my camera to take a good enough picture. Also it seems like it takes forever to trim a case! I spend about 5 second per round, is this normal?

    Are you rotating the casing?

Apply more pressure to get it to trim faster - you won't slow that motor down.

For me - 2 seconds if the case is 1.760+

If I'm trimming for uniformity, it's in and out.

  3. I agree, it was very poor stage design. The target was completely hidden, from the shooting position. Our squad swapped the plastic barrel, out for a paper one. We have all run by metal or plastic barrels, and heard a bullet spinning around, looking for an exit.

Yup - if the intent is merely to obscure the target, I'd choose a variety of items that would cover a target before I picked a plastic barrel.

In addition to safety, my main concern was that two perfectly placed shots could be unscoreable (2 Mike) since a target full of small bullet fragments should be treated like two mikes.

Even if the bullets remained solid, they could still be deflected by the barrel meaning that good marksmanship wouldn't necessarily be scored as better performance.

I don't think it will happen again at the club though given the response of our squad. (Swapping the plastic barrel for a paper one)

  4. In general I think that most people would agree that its harder to win a division with 100 competitors than a division with five.

I don't know about that, it's pretty damn hard to beat (in no particular order) Kurt Miller, James Casanova, Kelly Neal, Patrick Kelly, and Jeff Crambilt.

Plus the 6-12 up and coming limited shooters from TacOps and the other limited guys that were finishing right behind the people above.

  5. Yup...

He has a point of reference and he's sighting down the slide - I consider that "sighting" and it's a legitimate shooting technique.

Sights work better than slides for sighting but you can shoot without irons. That's definitely sighted fire though.

  6. I have battled in my mind with switching from the 2011 to a Sig since I spend a lot of time with the pistol.

The only problem is that the trigger will reduce the speed that I can shoot at all ranges since you can't be as sloppy with the longer trigger pull.

With that being said - if your 2011 WORKS and you unload AND safe (I always do), you have nothing to worry about.

Accuracy this year was a huge deal at Ozark and a big deal at Blue Ridge. Ozark involved shooting close to the capabilities of your pistol platform. I joked that my groups when I zero off of a rest at 25 yards were as big as some of the targets. It was challenging and the stages were fun.

Every other match you'd be good to go if the bullets didn't come out of your gun sideways.

  7. You can be sure that the guys who are shooting fast, and, centering the targets, are "using" their sights (in some way) at every distance.

    be

    What he said.

The only time I use unsighted fire is if I'm shooting at a target I can physically touch.

Any further than that and I'll take an acceptable sight picture (which at close distances means that I see the front and rear sight at the same time - and that's usually enough to take an alpha-zone shot).

    Here's clarification:

  8. and its quite simply a T.O. catered affair. All other divisions need not apply, so just like we say that if we do not agree with a matches way of doing things then vote with your wallet and don't go

    Trapr

it will be so much easier next year :)

My Prismatic got taken off of my rifle for my last two matches of the year. My Elcan SpectreDR arrives tomorrow. B)
