  1. I have a mil spec RIA 45 ACP. Had some initial problem feeding when it was brand new. It only took a $20 gun smith job to clear it. Eventually I replaced most of the parts except slide, barrel and frame to run it in single stack & L10. Nothing wrong with the original parts except a cracked barrel bushing which Armscor replaced in record time. Their customer service is top notch. The parts I replaced mostly comes standard on the Spartan except the sights. The front sight is pinned on the mil spec and not dovetailed, so you have very limited choices. I would have spent the same money on the Spartan instead. Overall RIA is as good in quality as the Spartan.
  2. Getting enough powder to make good PF and running the the comp effectively with 147 gr bullet may be tough because of its length. Try 124 gr so you can load shorter (as many already said 1.165 - 1.170). Mmm... where did I see 147 gr? my mistake.
  3. I used to have nose dive problem with my 45 with Wilson 10 round mags. I ended up adjusting the feed lip width on each of them and now they work 100%. All it took was widening them just a little bit. Before the adjustment, I measured them and was surprised by how different they were even when they were brand new.
  4. Got a new STI Ranger II a couple of years ago and replaced the RM with Dawson FLGR. Since there is no FLGR for commander length guns, Dawson cut one up for me. That's great service. You can count on those guys!

  6. Many thanks to the staff, great sponsors and wonderful friends in our squad. Excellent team work from everyone made my miserable result much more bearable, even enjoyable in spite of the hot weather. Looking for ward to next year.
  7. Both my 9mm major open guns (a Trubor and a Caspian slide/STI frame custom) run OK with factory 9mm ammo. Ejection is weak, but they will run.
  8. Sending in my application today. I guess I'll be shooting on Friday then.
  9. I started with 3x 140s and 1x 170. But found out very soon that 1x 170 is just not enough. Got another 140 & a 170. Many guys in out local club shoot open. Most of them have 3x 140s & 2x 170s, and that's what I have now. I shoot indoor & outdoor, and use dedicated mags for each. 2x 140s and a 170 for outdoor & major matches. The other 2x 140s & 170 for indoor & practice only. Indoor concrete floor can be hard on the mags. I try to save the better ones for outdoor & major matches for that reason.
  10. I'm relatively new to Open as well. Got a used 5" mid-length with Bedell Ti comp & Alchin C-more mount. The balance is close to my single stack. Full size guns feel a bit more front heavy. After shooting it for a few months I still love the balance of it, but wish for a flatter shooting gun with less dot movement. Now I've come to the point of wanting to get another gun as back up (or leave the old one as back up). I may either get another mid length or go with a seriously lightened full size. Full size should shoot flatter everything being equal.
  11. I haven't tried lightened full length guns yet. That's a good thought. Watching other guys shooting full length guns I have the impression their guns shoots a bit flatter than mine. My dot is almost off the glass... but that's another topic. I like the balance of mine just because it's closer to my single stack. It's good to have choices. Thanks Eric & Eric.
  12. Thanks for the suggestions. I think I'll check out both Akai Custom & FGW. The FGW mid-length concept looks awesome.
  13. A while ago I got a used open gun with a 4.8" barrel and titanium Bedell comp. I like the balance of the gun. Now I want another one with similar balance so I have a similar backup gun. Any suggestion who can build a reliable "mid-length" open gun?
  14. We'll have another match at NLFG on April 30. We're planning to start at 8:00 am, and will run a 2nd shift late morning if we have as many as we did last time. Please let FranDoc know if you're coming so we'll be ready for the number of participants.
  15. Great match again this year. This is going to be one of my most memorable matches. I saw the ground moving toward my face in slow motion in stage 4, and there was nothing I could do about it. I stretched out my hands quickly to stop it from hitting my head, then push it away as quickly as I could and finished the rest of the stage. My gun got instant stippling on one side. That's a very memorable experience.
  16. Area 5 was my first ever big match outside of my local club, and my first ever outdoor match. I only had 7~8 months of shooting experience in any kind of firearm at the time. I had a blast and learned so much from many experienced competitors in a single day. It may be your most memorable experience ever. Don't miss it.
  17. From what I heard we need more registrations ... keep them coming!!!
  18. I had light strike on my GP-100 a while ago. I had trigger job done and light springs on it, but it didn't give me any problem for the first couple of hundred rounds. After that it was constant trouble. Initially I blamed the WWB ammo, but later my gunsmith found the hammer dragging on the frame a little. He installed shims on both sides of the hammer to keep it away from the frame and problem solved.
  19. Thank you Fran and the team of RO's running the match yesterday. Like Fran said, the overwhelming response definitely justifies the needed expansion of the pistol facilities here, and a better safe area with proper back stop.
  20. Hopefully you have my application too. Checking the self squadding page everyday. This will be my first match in open. Can't wait!
  21. Adding my load data from Glock 34 on a 40F day: 147gr Plated RN @ 1.165" OAL. 3.5gr W231, HI 897fps, LO 876fps, 10rd AV 890fps, PF 131. 3.7gr W231, HI 945fps, LO 917fps, 10rd AV 930fps, PF 137. 3.9gr W231, HI 981fps, LO 933fps, 10rd AV 955fps, PF 140.
  22. Walküre, Your 147gr @ 1.165" OAL is the same OAL as my 9mm major load. For my 9mm minor load, I think I'll try your load without changing the setup of my press, since I've got some 147gr plated bullets from you know who.
  23. Adding my load data with HS-6 on a 32 F day with 4.8" barrel (4.25" to the comp), 124 CMJ, 1.164" Powder High Low 10rd avg 8.0 gr 1381 fps 1337 fps 1351 fps 8.2 gr 1410 fps 1373 fps 1391 fps 8.4 gr 1432 fps 1390 fps 1422 fps
  24. I considered getting a set of Superior tuned mags, but I'm concern about the slot cut down the side letting sand and dirt in too easily.
