  1. For 20 years in Alaska I shot in weather down to -40 deg as a LEO and in 3 gun at about 10 deg. I have tried just about everything on just about every kind of guns including glocks and 2011. Everything is miserable at -40 including the guns. In my experience very light oil works the best. Grease and heavy oil have both frozen and gummed up the gun. Also 1911s are down right painful to hold onto and I have seen glocks and other polymer guns crack when left for too long in the cold. Also, as other have said mags are harder to insert. That said glocks and 2011s worked ok as long as they're not over oiled. I have also used the dry silicon lube with some success.
  2. Mine can cycle and run faster than I can pull the trigger .12 sec on a good day. That was before and after I had it worked by C-rums. But he did do a couple mods that he said would fix a couple potential issues. Maybe I remember one of them being something like you describe. Give Jeff a call and he can probubly tell you more about it. Good luck.
  3. This is also what i use and like it a lot. flat recoil and very reliable.
  4. I borrowed some Taran Tactical from a shooting buddy and I ordered some that night. Not only do they function perfectly and come off easily but they are pretty and well made. Fit 20 re-loadable no problem.
  5. I have been in Tucson a little over a year and I some shooting buddies and I think that driving to the Tuesday night steel at Rio Salado is worth the drive. Not every week though . Some friends of mine took some classes as Ben Avery's and then shot a classifier match there. They said it was a lot of fun. So if they are closing shoot there but i would say every once in a while check out Rio Salado. Have fun shooting!
  6. I dont think of myself as an expert but I have been shooting ARs over 20 year. Its will probably help with the impulse caused my the reciprocating mass. However, its really the combination of the rifle length gas system, adjustable gas block, barrel comp, and low mass BCG being tuned to work well with each other for your particular load. I have seen some success with different combinations of these but your buddies JP probably has them all. That said a good comp, LMBCG, adjustable gas system on a carbine can still make a noticeable difference. Thanks my 2 cents anyway. Good luck
  7. Yeah i also think its mainly cosmetic. I personally like the way it looks. I do find that i like a serrated flat top for reducing glare or the reflection of the sight in some cases, especially here in Tucson.
  8. Im going to try this. Im A class (but typically compete with the Ms) and my draw times are usually not on par with the rest of my shooting. In practice I can get them down to .91-.95 but in matches its a lot more like 1.10-1.30 I feel like im playing catch up from the time I fire the first shot. Ill try and report back on my findings. In the sheep game im .20 -..27 Gabe
  9. Shot this one last weekend in production. 60 pts 10.80 sec. HF 5.55. Not sure how that is but it belt good. Gabe
  10. I had gen 3 before and picked up the glock 34 gen 4 to try it out. It has had zero issues and is actually very accurate. Im not sure why but it seems to also fit my hands better. Have fun with the new gun:)
  11. Welcome to the forum. Im from Tucson and just shot the Rio Salado Tuesday Night steel for the first time about a month ago. It was very fun. I wish I lived closer so I could shoot there more often. Me and some friends are going to take a little road trip and come up next Tuesday to shoot some steal Gabe
  12. Welcome to the forum and Hello from Tucson I shoot down here but just shot the Tuesday Night Steel at Rio Salado a couple weeks ago. Its a lot of fun and i definitely recommend it. Also you cant go wrong with Dillon Reloaders I have had a 650 for over 12 years now and have never regretted it. Gabe
  13. Just shot this one on Jan 4th. My first classifier with Production. Got HF 7.48. I was trying to figure where that put me. Based on what people are saying here that looks like 80% ish. Is that right? Gabe
  14. Thanks so much for taking the time to take all those pics. They are very helpful and now I have a much better idea of what needs to be done. Thanks again. Gabe
  15. yeah I typicly switch between a glock, M&P, 2011, and whatever else i can get my hands on. Thanks a bunch for the help Gabe
  16. JWil, thanks for the info. Yes. pics would be great if you have time. Also, what do you think of the setup? is it worth the effort or should I just buy some safariland mag pouches that are made to go with the system? Thanks again for the help
  17. Can I attach the CR Speed Mag Pouch to the ELS belt system? Does anyone have any experience with this setup and does it work well? I tried a search and cam up with nothing... Thanks Gabe
  18. I compete with STI Eagle and also carry it when im dressed appropriately to do so. Otherwise i carry a 1911 officers in 45 acp.
  19. in alaska we shoot 3 gun all year long outside and uspsa / idpa in a barely heated range. as many have said hand warmers help a lot. No one i know in Alaska uses grease. Depending on how extreme the weather is, we will just keep the coats and other gear on. The shock of taking your coat off can be very distracting. btw loading a shotgun on the timer at -30 with 30mph wind really sucks! Gabe
