  1. My decision has moved from the Trojan to a Spartan. I'm going to go with it and put the extra money in the things I need to change on it and mags. I would end up doing those on either one and there seems to be lots who really like their Spartans...Thanks guys!

    Minor doesn't suck...just hit all Alphas :))

  2. If he is shooting minor, I really doubt he will notice much difference between the 180 and 155s. I have both loaded in minor and I actually like the 155 better (and they are cheaper) but they are so close to me, that it really doesn't matter.

How do you end up with a dilemma of MG or Lead?? That's a huge difference in quality and price but if possible, go with MG.

I use VV for all my loads now but due to the price, I don't recommend it unless they know what they are getting into. A good economical powder I used to use was AA #5 and WSF. I'm sure many more will chime in on that one.

    Good luck...

  3. I called his business line and it went to voicemail but they are closed at this time. I left a message to check his email and see if there are problems on his end. Hope it works out for ya, he's a great guy to deal with...

  4. Another vote for the EGW die. Before I was having to drop check every round with about 2 - 5 out of every 100 needing to be tossed or re-reloaded. Now after the EGW die, I've checked over 500 rounds and never had one fail the drop test so I stop checking them (except for major matches). I have it for my 9, 40, and 45 setup, - it's worth the money!

GRx die looks good too but I've never tried it.

    Good luck!

  5. Not a stupid question at all...but no, the division is only for the type of firearm you are using - I don't believe the intent was to follow all the rules of that particular division in regards to that discipline.

I really wish they would have just kept the USPSA divisions there so it's a little less complicated for the IPSC shooters since it is a USPSA owned entity.

    Good question though...

  6. Just curious, did you logged the fps for each load with the avg, hi, lo, etc? Thanks...

All winchester once fired brass, Federal primers, avg is group size, not chrono data.

I didn't chrono with this batch, but I have chrono data for the other day. I wanted to get rid of some solo so I used it, but best accuracy is with N340, 5.4 grs. This is my steel load.

I guess you like the 340 then? I looked up a bunch of loads on here and came up with a few different recipes from other members but finally ended up with a load of 4.9 gr of N320 with the MG 95 gr JHP. I shot some today and it's like a .22 in my shorty Open gun. Have you tried any N320?

Were the crimps and groups similar with the N340 test? I never really check my crimp that much but I am going to do that tonight. I normally just crimp it enough to keep the bullet in the case, that's it. Thanks for the info!

  7. When you get into really low PF, you have to do things like lighten the slide, re-spring everything, ensure everything is very polished and there are no hangups, etc. I'm working on a steel gun now and going through those pains now. Probably better to stay with the 125-135 PF loads so you don't have to do these things...Just a thought...

  8. Buy in BULK. 1 Case minimum on bullets (6 case order from Manny USA is the way to go for Montana Gold which gets about to what I can buy lead locally for), group buys on Powder and Primers to save on Hazmat.

Dont forget to factor shipping cost. A lot of the lead bullet co's dont include shipping.

I attached a price comparison I did with Precision Delta, Precision Moly, Montana gold, BBI, Two Alpha Lead and Bayou.

To me, BBI bullets seem to be the best deal for what you get. Less mess and smoke than lead, at lead prices.

Thanks for the info! How long ago did you prepare this? Thanks again...

  9. "if you are done unload and show clear"

When the shooter holds the slide open and tilts the chamber so I can see it he/she is done.

The command is a question,, If you are done do this, as soon as they do this they are done, dropping the mag, holstering, scratching butt, is not the this asked for in the question as an RO all you can do is continue to enforce safety and re ask "If you are done unload and show clear.

The competitor is only prohibited from firing after the "If Clear, Hammer Down, Holster" is issued...up to that point, they can still engage targets...Rule 8.3.7

  10. for #4 we are to figure that the RO must have said "Stop"! = that was why the re-shoot was required. But the real question was what was the intent of the shooter? was it to receive the required re-shoot? If so I would have had to make the call of Unsportsmanlike behavior rule #10.6.1 resulting in a DQ and the range master would have to be called.

the RO could have issued a warning of "!IF you walk away you could receive a DQ" ! But just because an RO Says STOP it does not automatically result in a re-shoot.

Stay Cool , use your head.

I am new to the RO/USPSA game so my questions are to help me learn. I know if I was ROing and my shooter holsterd a hot gun and began to walk off my gut reaction would be to yell "STOP"! To me it seems like a safety issue. Is this an example of a RO loosing his cool? If the shooter did it on purpose to force a reshoot, that is another discussion. Is "If you walk away you could receive a DQ", a viable command? By the time I finished saying that the shooter could be half way out of the bay and out of my control.

I don't think it says explicitly in the rules that holstering a hot gun during a course of fire is a DQ, but I think walking off the line with a hot gun would fall under a safety issue.

Why does the RO calling stop automatically result in a reshoot for the shooter if he has already finished the course of fire (as signaled by holstering).

If this happened to me while I was ROing, what is the best call? (Sorry if this is spelled out in the rule book and I missed it)

Edit: As I was typing Neomet clarified the situation. Now I understand and agree on the reshoot call. But I guess my question could still stand as a what if scenario.

It depends on how he re-holstered it and what type of handgun it was. If he holstered it correctly and did not leave the CoF, he should be okay. Here are a couple of rules that could apply: Rule 8.2.5, "...a competitor may re-holster provided

this is accomplished safely, and the handgun is either unloaded

or in a ready condition stated in Section 8.1." and Rule 8.5.2, "If a competitor holsters a loaded handgun at any time during a course

of fire, it must be placed in the applicable handgun ready conditions

(see Section 8.1). Violations will be subject to match disqualification

    (see Rule 10.5.11)."

  11. If you are going to go with gloves, might be better to go with the nitrile gloves...they are synthetic latex and so many people have or eventually develop latex allergies. Little more expensive but better quality and less of a chance of reactions...

  12. Yeah, I use the Dawsons for the front and rear but I use the FO rear also. I like the visual aspect for fast shots when you just recognize the color instead of the blade/notch. Either way, the Dawsons are the way to go...
