  1. I have the M1 S90 Tactical model. Had my gunsmith go over it and do the basics, i.e. weld the carrier, change sights, safety, bolt release, recoil spring, polish internals, open port, etc. It runs great and I love the Tac stock. I really want to try the SLP and I've heard great things about it. I would sell #3.

  2. Thanks for all the input guys...

I kind of figured it would turn out this way but I was surprised about the Apex turn-around time. I'm sure they are busy and good, I also swear by their S&W M&P parts - I installed the Comp AEK and FRE, they are phenomenal! However, I'm an impatient guy so it looks like Carmoney will be getting a 627 in his mailbox soon...Thanks again!

  3. I do. Since I had so many problems with range brass and dropping in the case gauge, I tried all kinds of adjustments to no avail. I have even called Dillon to make sure I was adjusting my resizer correctly and I was told it was correct. I gave up and went to the EGW, it does slightly touch the plate, as did the Dillon die, but they come out so much better. Waa-laa, no tight case fits or sticking in over two years - and I've been reloading for 19. Go figure...

  4. Just dropping the parts in, the sear would not drop enough to release the striker. The lobe on the trigger bar isn't tall enough. Just opening it up causes other issues, like the trigger not stopping on the over-travel (inside trigger guard). Then there is the reset, although not related to Apex parts but I tweak in just enough tension for a solid reset feel. Too much causes trigger return issues with the lighter trigger spring. I love working on these though.

I ordered a FRE too, but ended up just reshaping the stock one. Couldn't wait for the part to come in. No more FTE's.

Sounds like your trigger loop was either crushed down or you have a gun that's a bit off. Were you using a 45 model or a standard model (9,40,357)? If you had called us in the shop about that, I'd have sent you a 45 sear to give you enough over travel to make it work properly.

    Scott

...And this is why I love these guys :)

  5. I bought the EGW undersize die,

    Pure, 100%, waste of money.

I'm pretty sure you are in the minority with this opinion. I swear by them since after I switched to it in my .40 and 9mm, I don't have to chamber check anymore and I never have a case not seat due to bulge or extended bottom dimensions. Case sizing is clearly not the issue here so the EGW does not become a factor. However, I highly recommend it to those of us using range brass.

  6. Hello everyone,

I hate to ask this question and I don't want to start any hate and discontent. I just picked up a 627 and I want to get a competition trigger job for USPSA and Steel Challenge. I have pretty much narrowed it down to either Carmoney or Apex but I can't decide.

I would like to hear from everyone who has a job from either or both. Please tell me specifics about trigger weight, smoothness, turn-around time, light strikes, etc.

Thanks for any input and suggestions...

You will get a gun that is most probably far beyond your capabilities from either. I have 2 Randy guns and his service and follow through is impeccable. I've shot with Mr. Carmoney and would send him a gun tomorrow and know it would be done right.

You might consider carefully what you want done. Both of these guys will do what you tell them to do.

Specifically, have you shot an extremely lightened action? Live fire? There is a difference in feel. The return of the trigger is different and takes getting used to.

Before you decide on the extremely lightened action look at yourself as a reloader. Will you give the ammunition the attention it will require?

Both of these guys will do more than just change/bend springs and smooth parts. You won't lose with either

I used to shoot a lot of PPC and I have several Clark customs so yeah, I am pretty familiar with the trigger, feel, return, etc., of custom trigger jobs. I have been reloading for 19 years so yeah, I think I'm okay in that area also.

I'm just looking for opinions and suggestions - I'm sure both are excellent but I just want to get a consensus of what is happening with most shooters.

    Thanks for the input...

  7. gng4life, The question had be posed before. How fast do you want it? Both are fine Smiths I have pulled the trigger on a number of Carmoney's jobs and I have a Randy Lee trigger job on mine. Both are comparable (so I cain't spell). Carmoney can get it done quicker. Up to you. I tried to do a search to find the discussion but had 31 pages to go through. Later rdd

If you can point me to a specific post, please post the link. I did an Advanced Search and looked for "Apex" and "Carmoney" or "Carmonize" and I only found two posts with both of those words in them. I'm not the best at searching but I thought I had this thing figured out...Help please...

  9. Hello All,

I just wanted to make a comment about the great customer service I've received in the last few months. In todays climate, it's even more important to get more "bang for your buck" and these companies delivered...and did it well!

UniqueTek - Made an order and they accidentally put the wrong D-Lead soap in the box. I called them up and the nice lady on the other end promptly put a new one in the mail, didn't even ask for shipping or anything. I will be ordering more products from them!!

Jard Inc - I have a 10/22 trigger unit and while at a match (doesn't it always happen there?), the hammer broke. I sent them an email, they responded to send it in. About 10 days later, I had a brand new unit in my mailbox. Again, not even asked to pay shipping - they just sent it ASAP. Now I will be getting an AR trigger from them soon.

Double Alpha (Saul Kirsch) - I sent an email to them asking about the 625 block insert for the Race Master. Saul responds within minutes and gives me a bunch of information. I ordered it from CED and had it in a few days - worked perfectly with my 627. Thanks Saul and CED!

Dillon Precision - This goes without saying, Mike Dillon has the best warranty in the business. After 19 years of reloading, finally something broke on my powder hopper. I called up, the tech knew exactly what I was talking about from the lame description I gave and I had it in the mailbox after four days, amazing!! Looking at a 1050 now :)

Palmetto Arms LLC - My gunsmith, Chester Cox, is awesome! I just want to say what great service, products, and turn-around times he has. If anyone needs his contact info, PM me and I'll get it to you.

Well, that's all for now. I just want everyone to know what great experiences I've had and I hope you all will spend your money with them. Let's all support the ones who support us and give us great customer service!

    Thanks...Happy Thanksgiving!

  10. Really? I pulled out the parts and put the replacements back in...that's the idea of a drop-in kit. I did no honing, polishing, finishing, etc. My trigger weight dropped more than half (from 4.8 to 2.3 lbs with the USB installed) and smoothness is remarkable.

What did you have to do for your install to say it is not a "drop-in kit"? Thanks

  11. I just started shooting Revo again and I used my Race Master (for my STI) and bought an insert for it. FYI...The 625 block insert for the Race Master does fit the 627. I am using it now with my 627. It will probably fit all/most of the N frames but not sure.

Also, Saul Kirsch is top notch! Excellent responses and support, I have nothing but great things to say about him and Double Alpha.

  12. Try this...

    4.7gr w 231

OAL 1.050...that is the longest you can load them in the 9mm case...trust me on this

Works great in doublestack guns, sti, etc. You may have feeding issues in a singlestack magazine gun though...

Been using this load for years....

    DougC

Hi DougC, have you tried going longer than 1.050 with the MG 95gr? I have been experimenting with it and started at 1.050 and went to .070, .090, then finally .104. I still get good pressure on the neck and shooting them off hand, I was getting about 2-3" groups at 20 yards. My SD was only 8 and my ES was 22 for a 20 round test group (going off of memory). Function perfect in my M&P and my STI (w/5.0 or more gr). Let us know about the OAL, I want to make sure I'm not missing something here.

BTW, I was mistaken about the velocities, I am averaging about 1266 fps (20 round test group) with 4.8gr N320 (for a 120 PF) and 1296 fps (20 round test group) with 5gr N320 (for a 123 PF) out of my M&P. I normally use 5.4 for Production matches but 4.8 for Steel and practice stuff.

  13. I use the MG 95gr with my Steel load and my minor practice load. I use 4.8gr N320, OAL=1.104. I chrono'ed these again today and I'm getting avg of 1120 fps so around 105/106 PF and they all cycled in my M&P (with 11 lb spring) but had a few stops with my STI Open 9. I have to move up to about 5.1 and then it's 100% but it's at the same PF approximately. I shot over three hundred today and going out tomorrow for another three hundred before I try them in a match this weekend...

I haven't loaded with 231 in years so I really can't speak for it now...good luck!

    Here's a good reference post, http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=116023&st=0&p=1315624&hl=+mg%20+95%20+n320&fromsearch=1entry1315624

    Welcome to the forum!!

(go to Advanced Search (little gear wheel next to the magnifying glass) and type in +mg +95 and you should come up with tons of pages)

  14. The FRE has proven to be a really tough one for most people. Try dripping some penetrating lube on to it like Kroil or even some gun oil. Use a short stubby punch like a nail set to get it started then use a longer one to punch it all the way out.

I've had my best luck with a light Jeweler's hammer with quick, sharp taps on the punch. If you continue having trouble email me at scott@apextactical.com

Thanks Scott! You saved me a phone call to your office :) I did put some gun oil on it but still won't budge and broke two pin punches last night. I'll go out and get a nail set and get another punch. Thanks again and I'm loving the trigger already!! I'll be sending a revolver to you guys soon also...

  15. I just installed the springs/sear so far and I went from 4.8 lbs to 2.7 lbs. I imagine when I put the striker spring and USB in, is should drop a little more. Wow! What a difference! I do wish the take up was shorter but it is a world of difference so far.

I am having a tough time with that FRE!! I have broken two punches so far trying to get the roll pin out...

  16. What about CDNN? I have bought an aluminum, & 2 slide rides for CHEAP, and they look just like the serendipity I got from SC.

When you say "cheap", what does that mean? If it's less than $125, I'd say it's a copy. If it's about $180 and up, it should be the real deal. CDNN is a reputable company that I have purchased from but they do carry several copies/fakes. They are up front about it though.

  17. With a name like Spray N Prey, I'm surprised you say that roflol.gif

I'm with Eric on this one, I'm getting my daughter into Steel Challenge and IPSC. She has enough to worry about right now with safety, course management, getting here hits, time, etc and we'll save the tons of reloads when she has a better mastery of those areas first.

  18. You know, when I get 9mm brass stuck in the cases of .40s, I thought about shooting it out. Wow, you really did it! Cool, great idea. Of course, like Gman said, doubt if many of us here will be doing it but it's a cool idea and something to play with- if time were easy to come by. :)

    Welcome to the forum, enjoy!

  19. The Casepro is $800. The Lee/EGW-U die is less than $20 including shipping. I've been using one for years, and I've had so few problems, I've actually stopped case-gauging my ammo.

Especially if you use the Lee/EGW die in the first station, and a Lee FCD die in the last station, and a bullet makes it through all that you're good to go.

Yeah, I'm with you Chris. I bought my EGW dies a few years ago and since then, I have finally stopped case gauging and I've not had one problem since. One good thing around here is that there are very, very few 9 major guys so I don't have to worry about the primer pockets, just the bulge. The Casepro is nice but the EGW is the best for the money for what I need it for. And all my rounds work fine now, not like before with the standard Dillon resizer.
