  1. Thanks Grumpy - You stole my line :)

Yeah FullRace - I know what you are saying but I made a major goof up and now I don't have time to correct it so I'm kind of stuck. These are working out pretty good so far, feel decent and very accurate. I'll be able to use the remaining stock for some minor loads but I needed this like yesterday. Not too worried about pressure since I didn't see any of the normal signs and they didn't like feel like some heavy loads I've shot before. Plus I am using brand new brass so no weak areas. Chrono results look good also, SD was 11 and averaged about 168. Even with the lowest 3 speeds still gave me 163 so I'm very close to a good load.

Thanks for the help so far everyone...

  2. Hi Jack and all,

Against the best judgement, I did try the N350 and it bombed. I could only get up to 1050 and was starting to see some bad signs and felt like crap too. Luckily, I also loaded up some PP. At 7.1 with 147 Zero, OAL- 1.120, CCI SP, I was averaging 1130 off the bat - THAT'S MAJOR! I think I'm going up to 7.2 and try those. The load felt pretty good, little heavy but I have a very light spring also so I'm going up a lb or two on that. This is normally a Steel gun with very light loads so I need to go back to the standard spring. It was very accurate, I was knocking down 8" plates pretty easy at 25 yards.

I'll try the #7 if I have time but I really don't like it much - I use to load #5 and #7 a lot but found out they are just too dirty. That's one reason I want to stay with VV if possible. I'm going to pick up some 3N38 soon - anyone know where I can pick up some on the way to Area 6?

    Thanks for all the help!

  3. Okay, I was thinking N350 would be the best choice of the powders I have but maybe not. I also have N320, Power Pistol, HS-6, HS-7, WST, Blue Dot, #7. Blue Dot and #7 are so dirty, I hate shooting them. I haven't opened the HS-7 or Power Pistol but maybe those would work better than N350? Going by published data, PP is listed at 1094 and N350 is listed at 1070 - not a huge difference to start off with.

Any other ideas? I'm getting short on time, thanks for any help...

  4. Hello All,

I'm looking for a load consisting of Zero 147 grain JHP and VV N350. I did the search thing and found tons of 124 and 350 but that doesn't help at all. Before you ask, no I don't have 124's or any others right now and I need 147 to make major quickly. Yes, I understand that 147 may not be the best choice but looking for someone who has done it so it can cut down on my research and testing. The Vit manual says 5.0 with a 147 XTP and that gives about 1070, I need it to be up around 1150. Any help is appreciated!

FYI...shooting it out of a shorty, 4.25" barrel, 2 popple holes, 3 port Ti Comp

  5. Also remember, when your scale says 3.6, it may be at 3.69 or close to that. Since most scales don't go to the hundredths place, you can't see that and you may have been on the border of 3.6 and 3.7.

I'm in agreement with most here, I think it should be fine but you need to know what 3.6 was shooting like before you run out and shoot the 3.7. If it was already crazy hot (which I doubt), then I wouldn't try it. Otherwise, you should be fine.

Are you going to Area 6 this year?? If so, see you there...

  6. There is another post just like this in this forum, see that for more info...

The common interpretation is that you can shoot all that are loaded, I've never heard otherwise as long as I have been shooting Steel Challenge...

  7. I agree with R-Bros - my Spartan is awesome. The fit is tight, shoots excellent groups, finish is great, I really like it for $630. I will be changing the beavertail, I can't seem to depress it all the way with my grip. I will also change to a ambi safety and get a trigger job. I already added a Dawson ICE and a extended mag release. It is really a nice little 1911.

  8. Pistol:

Primary - S&W 41, Bully Barrel, mRDS sight,

Secondary - Buckmark, TacSol 5.5, Cmore

    Rifle:

Primary - Tac Innovations AR Style receiver, MR Carbon barrel, Volquartsen Trigger, Raptor stock, DeltaPoint (3.99 lbs, sweet!)

Secondary - TacSol receiver/barrel, Volquartsen Trigger, Boyd Stock, Cmore

  9. Hi Guys,

please, I would like to have a clarification about SCSA provisional Rulebook.

(I've already asked to the SCSA headquarter, but no answer arrived at the moment ...).

My question is about Iron Sight Revolver Division:

    - SCSA provisional Rulebook says: " ...7 & 8 shot revolvers are permitted and may load to full capacity ..."

    - USPSA Handgun Rulebook says: " ... there isn't a max.capacity limit, BUT it's possible to fire a max.of 6 rounds before reload ..."

So, my understanding is that - during a Steel Challenge Match - competitors are allowed to load at full capacity their 7/8 shot REVO, but they are anyway obliged to make a reload after the 6th round fired; correct ?

    Thanks for your help.

    Stefano

The rule book is still in draft as you said so it's not truly official yet but in the past, it's always been legal to load up a revolver to capacity and shoot all the rounds. In USPSA, it's only six shots. I just got my Revo classification and it was hard to not shoot those last two shots out of my 627.

  10. You might specify that this is for USPSA? Perhaps post the rule book requirements...

Thanks. Too many new things are all flopping around in my brain demanding attention.

USPSA Handgun Rules require that poppers be tested with ammunition that "should achieve a power factor between 115.0 and 125.0 to qualify. 9x19mm is the recommended caliber."

When you say 3.6 gave you inconsistent readings, what was hi/lo/avg/es/sd numbers?

Just to err on the side of caution, I would really try to get that load closer to 115 to alleviate anyone from complaining. If you get up to 126 or higher on average, then you are on the upper side of the parameters of the calibration ammo. A shooter would have a legitimate complaint then. However if you came up with 114 pf ammo, even though it's less than minimum - how can they really complain if 114 pf ammo is knocking down the steel and theirs can't? Just a thought...

  11. Just wondering what comp everyone is running. I ran a search and didn't come up with a poll or anything. I have a TS comp and like it well enough, but seems like the nose is a little light. Anyone tried putting something like a JM comp on a TS Trail/Paclite barrel? Thoughts? I have a Buckmark with a 4" TS barrel if it matters. Thanks in advance.

    Lee

Sorry but what's a JM comp?

  12. Thanks for the info G-Man.

When purchasing from PV, I'm assuming someone would purchase more than 1K. 3,000 will fit in a flat rate for under $14.95 shipping, so $212.95 shipped for 3,000 roughly, .071 cents a bullet. But buying from Mannyusa you are paying roughly the same price. Might as well buy MG if the prices are practically the same.

I just ordered some bullets from MG and PV. I use the Barrys for practice/local matches and the MG for bigger matches. PV goes by the amount/weight you are buying. For example, when I called last Tuesday, the lady quoted me this 9.95 for the 1K, 11.59 for 2K, 13.xx for 3K, 16.xx for 4k, etc. The price was pretty consistent up to about 5K.

Either way, Barrys are not bad for practice and local stuff, especially if you don't push them over 1200fps. They get unpredictable usually above that speed so stay with heavier, slower loads for them if you decide to stay with that bullet. However, MG is the best deal around and shipping is fast from either them or Manny.

    Good luck with your search.

BTW, I can't find my old loads of Barrys/AA#5 - that was a long time ago...

  13. Will be loading some Berry's 124 gr RNDS in 9 mm. I will be using Accurate #5 and #7. Anyone have any load data they can share? I see in the Accurate load chart they have a plated Berry's 115 gr RNDS but in the 124 gr it just shows 124 gr RN. Any help would be appreciated.

I loaded up some of those before, I think I still have my data somewhere. I'll try to dig it up and post it here...I used to shoot a lot of AA#5 and a little of #7...

  14. I'm not sure about that but I would go by the manuals and guides that are put out along with SAAMI specs for the bullet. Those are the places I normally start and then work from there. SAAMI max length for a 9mm is 1.169.

Does factory ammo jam? I would guess it doesn't and I'm sure they are around the max length recommendation. Of course, we all know that we can move that somewhat but know all the factors before doing it and watch for pressure signs often.

  15. I just bought a Tanfoglio Match in 9mm and took it to the range to test it with 7 different ammos. WWB, Fed, Blazer, AA 115 TCJ, AA 147 FMJ, AA 115 FMJ MATCH AMU, and AA 147gr FMJ G. The best groups was with AA 115 FMJ MATCH AMU (gee what a surprise) which gave me an avg of 1" groups at 25 yds using sand bags. The second best was the AA 147 FMJ G which were runing around 1.5"-2".

Awesome information! Did you chrono the loads too? Thanks

  16. Be careful with the plated bullets, most of the time you should not exceed 1200 fps with them. For a 115 and Major, you need to do 1440 fps so you might want to look at MG or Zero, or go Minor :)

Sorry I can't provide PP loads but I have some of it and haven't worked up anything yet either, would like to try it though...

  17. Haven't had time to test anything yet, but its definitely not the sights because I shot factory ammo at the end of the day. I don't know if this means anything, but I notices on all the bullets of the dummy rounds that I chambered in the gun have some small lines on them almost like they are hitting the very edge of the rifling. It is only about an eighth of the way around the bullet.

Did the factory ammo also have the same marks?
