  1. ^^ What Pat said.

You should really just go have fun and make sure you are super muzzle conscience! Nerves will set in but just relax and shoot safely. Don't do what the GMs are doing, just go as comfortable as you can shoot and focus on good shots, listen to the RO (they can help you so ask), and have fun. Let us know how it goes.

  2. You shot about 76% Alphas, I think that is pretty good or should even go up a little. You can start pushing it to see if you can get your times down while maintaining this ratio but I wouldn't go much lower than this on Alphas, if any.

  3. Sometimes, protective cases help them retain heat and therefore shut down faster so taking them out of anything that traps the heat is helpful. We try to keep ours in the shade as much as possible and in little boxes. I just picked up an ice pack to use under it if needed also. If you put them in coolers, be careful of the condensation. Moisture is a killer also.

  4. What if the hole is not enlarged?

Score as normal, if possible; pull target if necessary; or reshoot if it can't be scored....

Why would the arc be needed if the hole is not enlarged? 9.5.5 only covers enlarged holes.

    Read post 34...... :-)

  5. I think if I worked on getting the draw under a second I could pull it off.

But the OP's question was about doing the whole drill in under a second...

It was a joke, I don't think anyone is talking about doing a bill drill with a mini-gun

    Roger that... :)

  6. I had a hammer break on a Jard trigger, they sent me a whole new trigger, they were great about it. Timney on the other hand - not so bueno about a bad trigger. Let's just say I don't buy their products anymore.

So are there a lot of problems with the Elftmann trigger then? I am still on the fence about getting one, hope to hear more about them, good or bad...Thanks

  8. Another way to look at "outside the shooting area" is that if (during the course of fire) a shooter has one foot on the ground outside the marked shooting area (and takes a shot), they are considered "out" and incur a procedural. So if one foot out means out, then I can see the gamer way of looking at the WSB (and would probably do it if I thought of it). If the intention of the WSB was to have the shooter start with both feet out of the shooting area, facing in a certain direction, it should have said that.

I get your point but the rules do not say you are outside the shooting area, they say you are "faulting"...this means making a mistake. Please point me to the rule with the word "outside" in the rule book. Ok, probably taking this part too far but you get my drift.

It's just plain English...I'm not mad at gamers but you gotta know when to say this is getting ridiculous...

As far as the WSB being more specific, I agree it can be but if we get to that point, we will eventually get to the point of other shooting sports that have no latitude at all. The little freedoms we get to be creative in USPSA...yeah... that's the part that makes this sport fun :)

  9. Is there a point or advantage to putting it on hold for a few months? A few yrs ago I moved across country. Between packing/moving/renting/buying/moving again/unpacking & setting up my current loading room - I didn't shoot for 10 months. Nothing was put on hold, I just wasn't active for a while.

    Did you ask?

Ask for what? All classifiers are on record from the day I joined USPSA. As long as your membership doesn't lapse, not being active for a month or 6 months is the same thing - or am I missing something in the original post/question.

Ask for your membership to be put on hold? This would extent it out so you are not paying for something you can't use. There's a difference in just not using something versus you can't use something. I know for deployments they will put it on hold but when I went on mine, I was a Life member already so it didn't matter for me. You were moving so could you have used it?...sure, in a pinch maybe. In the case of Nimitz, he could probably shoot weak hand for a while :)

My point was I was wondering if you can't use a membership that has an expiration term on it, what conditions are there for putting it "on hold" until you can resume shooting.

  10. I am just not buying this snake oil. The WSB stated outside the shooting area. I don't think we need a rule to specify what outside means. However, in case anyone is unaware, Webster defines it as:

    1) a place or region beyond an enclosure or boundary

    2) the area farthest from a specified point of reference

    3) an outer side or surface

    4) an outer manifestation

    5) the extreme limit of a guess

#1 would clearly cover that this. If it says outside, then it is the shooter beyond the boundary of the shooting area. My gosh!

The logic about "if I shoot, I get the penalty" is pretty flawed also. We are talking about a starting position, not running the COF. The rule never says you being outside, it just says touching the ground or object beyond the fault line. Post #37 above has it right.

  11. I started having this problem with my Production gun. At first, I was thinking it was grip but the more I look at it, I do believe it's my trigger finger. I don't have this problem on my Open gun.

Are there any specific dryfire drills you all are doing or have done to correct this?

  12. I've been playing with some basepads the Springer Precision is making and they seem to work awesome. The have a set screw in the back to hold them on and they are rock solid once the set screw is tightened! Scott is in the testing process now and they should be available soon.

Set screw? How is it released to take off the pad? With an Allen wrench?

  13. I like the Grams and Dawson best. I like the fact that they go straight up and down for the removal/replacement process. If you use STI mags and need a spacer, this is crucial to keeping the spacer from causing failures. The other thing I like about the Grams is that they have so many sizes that it would be almost impossible not to find the perfect size for your application. Yes, I pretty much have or have had all the basepads out there.

  14. I'll be shooting with Mr Wilson in a few weeks. I'll ask him and report back.

Please do and report back. If he has more history on it he wants to share or if he thinks it can be done in under a second, let us know. Thanks

  15. You really have to work out and test the loads. In general, my 1911/2011 style guns normally like longer OAL while my striker fired pistols are the opposite but that is just a general statement and not absolute. That's the fun part of reloading, testing many combinations to find the perfect load for you and your gun.
