  1. CCI and Winchester have been somewhat available, but it has been some time since I have seen Federal Small Pistol Primers. And as far as powders are concerned, oh how I wish the unicorn Solo 1000 would hit the shelves again.

I can't wait for some Solo too!

  2. One thing I haven't read much of so far is that the ritual is not just "play time", it's also a time for checking your equipment. The biggest being the mags. After starting with empty mags a few times and it cures you of not checking them again on the line. I know you should be ready when you are called to shoot but with running timers, taking score, patching targets, etc., sometimes you get behind making sure your equipment is ready.

  3. Are the ones with the " internal ledge" bad to reload? I noticed a few in the last batch I picked up. Or should I say I saw a few with a line around the outside of the case like some revolver cartridges have...

Two different things. The ledges haven't given me any trouble on a 1050 loading 9mm minor.

9Major aka 9Grenades are the devil. I have more concern about 9Major brass with completely flat primers and even flattened case heads where the head stamps are flattened and almost illegible than I do with stepped brass. There are open shooters out there living life on the edge.

That's funny...there are literally millions of 9Major rounds that have been shot with a very good safety record but to each his own.

  4. The ones with the "line" around the outside - like a revolver cartridge - are OK. The ones with the ledge around the inside of the case aren't, although a number of people use them for minor loads. I've had a couple separate with minor loads, no harm to anything, but the front of the case can sometimes stick in a chamber.

Even at Minor, there are separations with this brass. I wouldn't do it but you're on your own.

  5. The problem with this is the wording. The term "adequate" is what sets it apart. That term means that it is acceptable and not more than acceptable. Having a pair of ear plugs would seem to satisfy the rule. One of my RMI mentors said the same thing. However, coming from someone who has hearing loss and Tinnitus, if I see someone inadvertently lose ANY hearing protection, I will stop them and have them reshoot.

  6. Rule 9.5.5 was mainly for ricochets and soft cover does have a definitive write up about scoring:

4.1.4.2 Cover provided merely to obscure targets is considered soft cover. Shots which have passed through soft cover and which strike a scoring target will score. Shots that have passed through soft cover before hitting a no-shoot will be penalized. All scoring zones on targets hidden by soft cover must be left wholly intact. Targets obscured by soft cover must either be visible through the soft cover or a portion of the affected target(s) must be visible from around or over the soft cover.

I still don't like barrels for soft cover though.

  7. Hello: I was just going to say to think about how the mags work and what relationship they have with the ejected round. You may have also noticed that spent cases will come out high and lower or more forward then back each round. It has to do with how the rounds are fed from the mag, a right and left thing stagger. Mags have caused more people to get guns fixed or sold than you can imagine. Good mags can make your life wonderful. Fix them fist then look for other problems. Thanks, Eric

Well I know why I have never had this problem. I change the springs every month, and run the mags through the ultrasonic cleaner every week. When they come out of the cleaner I check and adjust the feed lips if needed. Thanks for the info.
Every month? How much do you shoot?
  8. I was referring to fully removing the section of rubber between the two "panel" sections, not just taking down the groove portion. Essentially making two rubber panels out of one grip

If you make it only a grip panel, the rules section is pretty clear on that so it should not be an issue.

I have also heard about the wrap-arounds not being legal and Eric is very familiar with the rulings so I'm sure that is correct. Of course, Troy is the "interpreter of the rules". I just don't see an official interpretation or ruling on it.

  9. Med sized hands, & I like the rubber. They are a bit to large for trigger finger placement. Would it be legal to put the rubber on in the weak side to grip the hell out of it and a thin aluminum on right side for trigger finger placement.

Both are legal, why wouldn't this be legal?????

It should be legal. The section on grips just say grip panels are allowed as long as they don't extend below the butt of the gun.
