  1. boy this has been a ride for me as well, got my first limited gun and it had fiber optic, felt it was taking away from my accuracy as well. Blacked it out and things seemed better but have recently gone back to trying it. I also have a microdot on mine and I have come to believe that at least for me(at this moment in time) it is the best of both worlds, the fiber is small and the black sight blade above it can still be made sharp to focus when needed. But I also think that continued experimenting along with maturing in the shooting game can change it all again..
  2. like I mentioned I thought about it off and on all day, wondering what the override was and then what was the advantage or disadvantage . In the end figuring the switching from right hand to left hand and then back to right hand and reestablishing grip, it would be time lost and probably not worth it 99.9% of the time and one more thing for me to tell myself not to do it. As far as accuracy it is 90% of the right side but not as quick for sure. The recoil management is off with my left hand as paintguns do not recoil. Corey, what team did you play for perhaps we have met? did you play 7 man or Xball, I did both Leagues so maybe we have crossed paths? I have played with Live Wire Vicious, Diesel, Warped Army, Swat Paintball, and as of the last few years the Masters division at World Cup with the Ego Maniacs. I have been thinking how cool it would be to get more old paintballers and young* into the shooting game, course we gotta teach them finger out the trigger and the 180 rule for sure! as those are the two hardest things for me to have on my do not do list, after 25 years those are hard habits to break when you are use to engaging moving targets at every angle including behind you
  3. I went to go practice and set up a stage that I started from behind barricade and would draw and engage both steel and paper from each side of the prop. I also would have to do a mag change as I switched from strong to weak side. There were targets that had to be engaged from both sides that were very near center line so some leaning out would be needed. But it could be done with a little effort using strong hand from either side. So thats the setup to have a mental pic of. Buzzer sounds, I draw fire 2 hots and then a higher primer gives me a misfire (course now I am mind screwed) clear it shoot rest of targets on right (forget all about my mag change) begin to engage all the targets on left, when I run out of bullets, oops forgot that reload and when I go to grab the mag and drop the magazine from gun I realize I have the gun in my left hand and I am pulling a mag out from across my body! and of course the magazine button was not there for my left thumb either. So I use my left forefinger drop mag and continue to shoot the remaining targets left handed ( did not even think to switch gun over after the reload!) After breaking down what happened over the rest of the night, I come up with this: When the malfunctioned occurred it threw my game plan out the window, had I not forgot the reload I do not think this would have happened at all, and don't laugh or think less of me but I am currently a Paintball field owner and a competitor for over 25 years now, the USPSA has given me new life in being competitive at something I enjoy, when at 48 my paintball competition days have come to a end. I only tell you this because you will never survive at the highest level of the paintball sport if you cannot shoot left and right from behind cover(reason: you expose to much of your body leaning around shooting left side with right hand) that being said a paintball marker has a air system which makes it more like a rifle than a pistol. I just thought it interesting that when something goes wrong your mind / body reverts back to what it knows and is use to, and at first I thought what a interesting skill set to have but then I realized looking back at the events I have been to, no stage has really been set up where the need to shoot off hand was worth the effort and hand switch actually would take up more time then continuing the course with strong hand. So now I worry about my instinct kicking in when I do not want it to! On a side note I slipped in the Mud at The MS classic and the gravel at Alabama State match and keeping the gun down range and getting up fast is also a skill that is 2nd nature from running with a marker and diving /sliding into bunkers. Although I am happy to be able to keep in the game during those moments, I have gathered from my short shooting career that we do not want to really fall/ slip or slide in this sport....really no advantages So not sure I am in the right forum but is shooting off hand a valuable skill to be able to do other than the few COF that require a left hand only few shots?
  4. you forgot Mikes best friend Mr No Shoot
  5. Absolutely! its fun and you will learn a ton
  6. +1 but shooting anything is better than watching!
  7. Hello and welcome, I live in Biloxi and everything chbrow10 told you is correct, whether its Vinegar Bend or Stennis its great shooters, I have not been to Poplarville matches but I hear they are also great. I would also mention that Woolmarket has a range that has a informal pistol match the 2nd sat of every month. They are not USPSA but they try hard to provide some action shooting and its fun with a great bunch of folks. ***Be warned*** I came onto this forum by chance and made a post about new to MS shooting. One year later and $$$$$$$, I check the site out almost daily. These guys are like crack dealers! but I have never been pointed in the wrong direction. You can pm me as well for any info or if you wanna get together and shoot. hmmmmmmmm......MY GOD , I think I have just became one of those crack dealers!
  8. Sometimes I think its not the making these classes that is hard but getting to a match once a month and having a good run on what ever is set up, and that is where the practice to become consistent comes in...I think? I just made B it took a year but I could only make 11 classifiers of which 3or so came from state level matches. I thought this a great thread as I was just thinking I have mad respect for A + class shooters, to hit the 75%+ on classifiers when you get to the match cold have not shot in a week and it may be your first stage....and I wanna try and do well for the match , so hero or zero thinking does not fit in to my mind yet. I dont know, does anyone else see this as a pretty big jump? I want A, Hell I want GM but the ability for me to shoot enough and make classifiers an avg of once a month seems like it will be many years away and I fear since I am already 48, I am not getting any fresher
  9. when the primer shortage hit, Wolf was all I could find, although not excited about it I bought them and after 5000 rounds of spp through my .40 Limited gun ZERO issues and gun chronos great. I now have no problem buying them and using them or any brand for that matter. Its sorta what I can get and what is the best price, that dictates brand for me they all work fine in my gun.
  10. Heck it was already maxed out this year, if we bring friends then one of us might not be able to shoot it next year
  11. I did the same thing, also had to work Sunday.... and then of course its raining like hell here so we got rained out. Oh well had a great time and my 2nd MS Classic was as good as my first.
  12. +1 I tried a a couple other options but ended up picking up a Brazos in the classified here on Enos. Still paying for it but would not do it any other way today.

  14. I joined the site about a year ago to find fellow shooters in my area as well. It worked, now 4000.00 dollars later and many hours in the garage reloading, all I can say is what my Dad use to tell me "be careful what you wish for" I know there are a few guys in southeast La that shoot revolver and also South West MS at the Stennis match (3rd Sunday of the month) I'm sure you will get lots of info soon. Best of Luck
  15. I have a flip to side mount, I saw somewhere in here about the turning barrel down, the more I read the more I think maybe I should just buy a 18/20 inch barrel. I will try that method of using the eotech. I guess its not that I hate the Eotech or anything as much as it just seems bulky. I never had iron sights on the gun, have not shot one with irons, kinda want to experiment with one. I bought a rear flip down from a member on the classified a M1, so now I gotta find a front flip down that will work with it. Then I will play around and see what direction I want to go...optic / dot / iron (he also had a millet 1x4 so I bought that to ..lol) , I am so new to this AR stuff I cannot get enough advice. Please do not stop I am in need of as much direction as possible. Thanks to everyone for guiding me
  16. sounds like I may have the wrong gun for trying the iron sights, hmmm maybe I will give it a run and if I like it and see that my accuracy is not quite there on the long shots I know I have to goto longer upper. what kind of rear sight is that Hannu?
  17. I am willing to take the EOtech off for a bit and see what up with the Iron sights (you are correct there is no room) , my gun has a bull barrel and was not sure about the clamp ons working or available for the bull barrel. It does have a rail mount on the gas block in front of handguard, so the sight radius is gonna be what it is...
  18. it seems like from point blank to 250 yds, withe majority being 20yds to 100yds. so you are saying the EO with the multiplier are good? I think I would still like to try some irons so I can get a fair test for myself on which is better for me and that right there my friend is exactly why I was thinking simple, look down a pipe get a reference and fire, and for me not fiddle with buttons and then look around for the dot. I guess another reason I was thinking trying irons is a saw a couple guys seem to be hitting things fine with no optics, hell I am just confused..lol Thanks for your input and thoughts
  19. I have been shooting some uspsa limited pistol and now the local club has "kinda a 3 gun match", and I have this dpms I bought before I really read anything and knew even less than I know now. Its a heavy barrel 16" version flat top, came with no irons or optics. I bought a Eotech long ago and a 3 x magnifier mainly because it looked cool, it just seems bulky now that I have gone to shoot with it once (match), honestly I have a hard time picking up the optics when I look through it (probably from lack of practice) but I am a limited shooter for the same reason, I cannot find the dot as fast as I see the irons. So before I go spending money that is wasted this time I figured I would ask those who know. Or at least some guidance. Using for matches / target / and tactical. I guess I would like to be able to use the EO with if I desire to. Then again after reading these forums it looks I might need a 1x4 optical if I pursue any further in this. But in the mean time your help is appreciated. Ger I might add the little gun seems to shoot good but with the HB its a heavy sucker for sure lol. I dont mind at the level I am at now and shooting it, as is, before I go spending $$$ on new uppers etc is the smart thing for me now, so all advice on the gun is appreciated as far as small upgrades here and there along the road. I am happy to have it, although the sights are my major concern.

    Pull Ups

Well Hell, if you can't shoot good, mind as well look good shooting Been doing some research on Crossfit and it looks quite intense and will get you in shape no doubt, doing anything to increase your fitness is better than sitting around doing nothing. P90x is more than a look good though for me, I honestly am quicker and stronger, the biggest thing for me and for others to consider is where you want to do this, a gym? garage? living room? and when... I thought I might do the crossfit but I just do not have the room for all the cool stuff and going to a gym, well the whole getting there and back and working out is not for me. For me, the living room with some dumbbells and a pull up bar at a whim get it done. As with Jake Di Vita and crossfit, if you have questions on the P90x system it sounds like there are shooters here to help, its a great community all bases covered by fellow shooters, do not think it gets better than this.

    Pull Ups

its always cool to talk with someone else sticking with it, I know I have a glow in my eyes when I talk about it to poeple who see the change in my fitness. I think it is hard for those who have yet to do this to understand the appreciation for the program, hell I think I sold about 3 -4 programs from people I know who saw me and wanted in, I guess I should have done their sales program Plyo and Legs and Back are the two I love to hate and followed by Yoga, the biggest bummer about Yoga is the bar on the TV says 1 hr 30 minutes. And for me its one hour and 30 minutes of sweat and suffering....lol Let me tell everyone..Yoga may sound kinda NON-masculine, especially to all us gun toten, super cool shoot'n folks but I sure admire the folks who do it correctly a lot more! And I agree, for zipping around a little COF, keeping your balance when coming to hard stops, cutting corners you cannot beat it. I have been playing competitive tournament paintball nationally, a sport I played from the beginning and today the tournaments are owned by the 17-25 year old for the most part, I love the sport and have been in it since 1985, as a player, field owner and proshop owner, this program of fitness has done wonders to allow me to still compete against the youth, it just hurts more the next day for me! P90x does not seem to help bruises and welts Oh well, it appears I got typing more than I originally intended, sorry for the rant. If you got 1hr to 1.5 hours a day you can spend doing this 6 days out of the week AND you will stick to it.......BUY IT! you will not be sorry, you will see improvement in your times on the range as well as many other benefits.

    Pull Ups

I just finished my first Classic P90x round and am going into lean now. I could do about 3 pull ups when I started now I can do 10 and get about 56-60 total during the work out. It is a incredible program if you stick with it, I dropped 20 lbs and did nothing diet related, just the program 6 days a week. And like halogrinder said I to am finding muscles I have never seen before as well as endurance. I honestly believe this is a great physical trainer for the shooting sport, it encourages more than just strength. It incorporates some Yoga, Kempo, Plyo , so balance and range of movement is improved greatly. I am 48 in January, I have a torn medial meniscus, and am a cancer survivor. I still could do the program, maybe not the pace of the guys on the DVD but like Tony Horten says " Do your best , forget the rest" , if you do that..."your best" you will see results. And all though I am new to shooting in the USPSA from my short experience thus far that motto will serve me well shooting in matches. As it is I tell my self two things when going to the box now....."Slow is smooth. smooth is fast" and " Do your best , forget the rest"
