  1. I did the exact same thing today, when the RO told me I was Dq'd, I understood. Interesting to me was that when it happened I actually thought I hit the magazine base plate to hard and it was a gun issue but the RO saw my finger inside and after trying to recreate it later...he was 100% correct. Nothing was hurt thank goodness but my ego and thats not to big anyways, so it just another learning lesson and reading this thread gives me some things I can now practice to eliminate that habit.
  2. Thanks as well from a new shooter. I am from Biloxi only shot a couple local Alabama USPSA matches, fell in love, was told about a great match to go to right here in MS, jumped right in and continue to be impressed with the company of shooters and staff. The help and advice from fellow shooters, the politeness of the RO's and general fun atmosphere has got me hooked. For those of you who love this sport and want to see it grow and stay, keep up what you are doing here on this forum and others. I was a casual browser that made one post and Gregg W. answered my call, invited me to go shoot, gave me advise and BAM!, like some back alley drug dealer he gave me a sample of the drug, now I am strung out...reading everything, listening to everyone and wondering what matches I can make it to. I close my eyes and see swingers, clam shells and after MS Classic pressure plates! only to be awakened by breaking 180 rules and getting DQ'd. ( I was so paranoid of breaking a rule in my first big match, I could barely remember anything to shoot as I was telling my self "180, 180 and finger, finger" I am lucky I did not over look some targets! ) In summary, I'm from MS only fitting that my First Major is in MS and even better to be proud of what a match we have in MS. and now another shooter has invited me to go to TX and shoot there in a couple weeks...I'm going! gotta a lot of catching up to do. Ger PS Thanks for letting me tag along with Gregg on Friday so I could go to work on Sunday, not to mention I got to miss the weather
  3. just thought I would post up my final findings in case anyone else has similar questions or is researching as I was on the forums here. Ended up with a180 grn MG JHP, OAL 1.22 , 5.3 vv320 , power factor of 171. Should anyone find this useful also understand as was stated to me many times here, start lower and work your way up. Thanks again to all who pointed me in the right direction.
  4. so I tried a 5.1 grn vv 320 with a 880 fps avg. OAL 1.195, is it possible for velocity to go up with less powder and greater OAL? Thanks Ger
  5. hmmmm, calling the guy who makes the gun. thats makes to much sense and way to easy for me to have thought of on my own This is actually great info to me, as I shot some Blazer Brass at local match in a pinch and a RO was asking what kind of bullets I was shooting as they appeared to look like they were tumbling by the the look of the holes in the target. When I got to my reloads no such observation was made was made. Thanks for the knowlege and I shall give him a call Monday.
  6. Thanks in advance for the help. I just bought a used Brazos custom limited and have been reading about the loading longer for the STI guns. Previously I was loading for a CZ 75 SA. So is the longer loading purely for a more reliable feed? and if the gun seems to feed fine at 1.13. should I just leave it there? Is accuracy improved as well? Last I also seem to remember some talk of barrels being a little different for some custom guns and was wondering if this was true for the Brazos. ( I am not sure if I was understanding it correct as I have been spending hours reading these forums and get side tracked) I just loaded up and shot some 180 MG JHP, OAL 1.195 with vv 320 from 4.9 to 5.1 grns, crimp at .418. It would seem I saw others getting to major PF. I was not able to get there. Its not a problem as I will just go back to the bench and start bumping it up, but I figure I could also reduce OAL some but then the consistent research shows most going 1.20. maybe I have just read to much or not enough
  7. went to the Alabama indoor "AIM" Range, for the Tuesday night shot. If anyone is in the area, I recommend it. I drove a hour to a unknown area and met folks that treated me like I was there every night. Great bunch. Thanks to Gregg for helping learn the ropes.
  8. If it works. Its works. Personally I can't imagine using a sight picture you described. Alignment is critical for me. A benchrest session shooting groups with sandbag support will help. You didn't mention if your rear sight is adjustable. If it is this will, more than likely, solve the mis-alignment. You want the "dot" centered in the notch. Not floating around above it. Jim yes, it is adjustable. I guess what I was attempting to say in type, was my eyes were centering the F/O automatically centered in rear sight notch but high in the sight picture...so in this experiment I adjusted the point of impact to be exactly what my eyes were doing on there own with the F/O dot. Does it work for me? well I am to new and to few rounds down range with this gun and its F/O to know for sure. This thread has definitely "opened" my eyes to what is the norm. Ger
  9. I found this thread via a search as I had the same question. I have been shooting for 20 plus years for recreation but just recently got into some matches (hooked btw) I recently purchased a pistol that came with FO front sight which I have never shot before and spent a day at the range how to best figure this thing out. Now I am sure I am making some huge mistake as I do not have anytime time under my belt as a competition shooter. I spent some time pulling the gun up to fire and analyzing my sight picture and the bullet strikes and found that I was putting the green F/O on top of my rear sights. So I just went back to the bench and adjusted everything so when I have to take the far shot I am centering the F/O in center and on top of my rear sight. Seems to work fine for me but I am sure I am over looking something I have not encountered as a new comer to the competitive shooting scene and I am still looking for the range , so if someone has done this and found the reason it will not work well for the long run, now is the time I need to rethink before I get caught up in learning the wrong way. Thanks
  10. You should be able to get it in there if you got it from CZ Custom. I got the same problem with it when my is new. After a few club matches... I can easily put all 20rnds to the mag. Also try pulling and expanding that spring. I did get from cz custom. And I think you are right, I went to a local match last night and to my surprise got 19 in 2 of the mags! Pulling and expanding the spring? hmm, I would have thought that would actually be what the problem is now...and compressing resolved the issue? Thanks for the help Ger
  11. Am I the only Newb who cannot get but +1 in these +3 magazine extenders? I have got 3 of them and adding one round is the best I can do in any of them. It is a CZ TS 40 cal. that I am working with and even if I take the base plate out..no difference. All the magazines work fine with the 18, I can cram in there. I am trying to use my bare thumbs with no reloading device. Wondering if that is the problem.
  12. thanks chemepharmd, Do you shoot the Tuesday night Bama match as well? or just the Sat. matches
  13. before the smoke clears, I want to have traveled North , West and East. Its all about the time of the match meshing with my current work. But I am eager to learn and participate. Houma is about 2 hours? from Biloxi. I have some friends that own shell shock paintball down there.
  14. I used to have a SW 686 many years ago, back when wheelguns where the standard that police dept. carried. I loved that gun, regret selling it. Was young and needed the money to buy a Sig 226. Geez the ammo for 38 /357 is off the hook! The Tuesday night shoot, I understand they are not affiliated with any sanctioned groupsm so is it a" shoot what ya brung" type of match?
  15. First let me say its nice to deal with mature helpful adults and not teenagers and young adults that I am used to in my business dealing! everyone here is helpful beyond compare. The CZ is a 40 TS IPSC model, single action only with factory mag well. From what I have been reading it seems like I am going to be limited to what I can even shoot this in and I do not think Production is one of them as I read it. And USPSA I am lost but is it only DA/SA? Then even match sounds like something I can work and the big match in MS is gonna go on my list of get there! and I would like to try and get a Sat off to go with you guys just to learn. My 1911 does have a comp. but I have alot of guns including other 1911. The pin gun I enjoy shooting and has the little extras that I like and I purchased the big CZ just for playing this sport and figured it would be a good start as I have a CZ75 9mm I have 100%faith in working no mater the ammo or conditions and shoots darts. Of course per my first post I put the Wagon before the horse and spent money not knowing what is permitted etc. I have always been the competitor that does not mind losing because I am not capable but not losing because my gear is not capable. ....I assume I could drop another barrel in and use my pin gun with out the comp? Thanks for all the help
  16. Perfect! just the info I was hoping I would get. I guess I kinda put the wagon before the horses, I got the gear now I will have to compete in what ever division they fit. But it is all good, I am just ready to shoot. The Saturday thing is the tough part as of work. Can you kinda give me a idea of the time frames...start to finish on a Saturday?
  17. So my situation is I love to shoot, anything! I started a little competitive shooting in south AL some 24 years ago, then I discovered paintball , opened a field, started a National Level team and have been playing the circuit and competitively for the last 2 decades and now my body at 47 is about shot from the sport and can no longer keep up with the youth sprinting and diving into bunkers. All this to preface the fact I have rediscovered what I had put off many years ago. And now have been buying stuff like a newb in my paintball store. Funny thing is I am buying and do not even know what divisions these things can be used in as it seems to have changes so much in 24 years. I still have my pin gun .45 1911. And just purchased a CZ 75 TS Ipsc from a forum member here as well as ghost holsters, etc and because I love shooting I also bought a SX2 for some skeet, a 11-87 and have been tricking it out to do 3 gun (which I have yet to do) and already had a AR but have just ordered trigger kit and mag well to help it out as well. Only problem is I work the weekends field owners problems, but they have a local pistol match down here in Biloxi / Gulfport on the 2nd sat and a 3 gun on the 3rd sat. Great guys but sorta informal and would love to participate at some point in more sanction matches , both for the competition , fun and learning experience. I am a sponge right now and as a person who lives on adrenaline and competition I would love to have links to places I could go and participate in the LA , MS , AL , panhandle area. Enjoy reading the site and camaraderie that is displayed here. Gerwin www.swatpaintball.com
